Dramatic Marshmallow

He disliked the mall.

It was crowded and clustered, and smelled of about a thousand different foods all at once, which was generally unappealing; not to mention that the cacophony of voices and off-key music and tapping of footsteps made it feel like one was locked inside of a baby rattle.

Still, there was no other option. He supposed he could have done his business online, which would have made things both anonymous and much easier to deal with, but somehow that felt like copping out. Besides, if he set up his stand, as he did every year, he wouldn't have to worry about shipping, which took way too much time and effort.

So it was back to the kiosk. It was simply decorated, with a plain wooden sign that proclaimed Handmade Silver Jewelry - Prices Listed Below and a few subtle ribbons tied at each of the four ends of the cart. Not exactly extravagant, perhaps, but Magiore had never really been one for extraneous glitz and glitter.

The man in question sat beside the kiosk, head bent over a book, dark hair falling in soft curls over his narrow shoulders. Magiore's dove gray sweater, which he'd pulled out of the wash no earlier than this morning, was slightly too large for him, but went well enough with the black slacks and dress shoes. If he couldn't make the time to dress up his small booth, at the very least he could dress up himself without any issue.

So far he'd only sold three necklaces, which was a dismal start, especially nearing the holiday season. Magiore set the book down over his lap and reached out, idly rearranging one of the display cases so that the gleaming silver cross with its delicate chain was more noticeable.

Habibi was sure, as she walked down the plaza towards the kiosk situated at the fork, that she recognized the young man sitting beside it. His head was down, attention settled on the book that lay open on his lap, but the raven waves that framed his face were familiar. Specially that splash of color that that rested against his right cheek. Magoire, if memory served. She'd met him at the eclipse party.

It seemed like such a long time ago that they'd shared a bench and conversed about books. Life had been so simple then, not that she had really realized it. Everything had changed after that day. Shadows and encroached upon the city, hunting down their living counterparts. She'd been attacked herself, and it had been then, when muted fingers had squeezed around her neck, that her life had taken a dramatic turn.

She was not merely Habibi now, but more. A soldier and a protector, but was that all? When Pavo had awakened, had Habibi died?

Dark eyes shifted from the young man to the glitter of silver in the display case he was was rearranging, and she slid up behind him. "Your wears?" It was asked softly, full lips twitching up in a friendly smile.

He'd been careless; one brush of his arm as he'd settled back into his chair and he'd nearly knocked his cup of coffee over, which in turn had nearly knocked one of the displays over. Which, he knew, would have been terribly bad, terribly unfortunate since this was a part of his income. Still, Magiore managed to catch both with nimble fingers, and he brought his cup of coffee to his lips, frowning slightly at the cart in front of him.

A voice to his right, vaguely familiar. He turned his head and caught sight of the girl from the eclipse party, her hair still so very reminiscent of his own, except a shade lighter, brown rather than his own ink black hair. It took him a moment to remember her name - Habibi - and when he did, he swiveled around to look at her, absently crossing one leg over the other.

"My wares," Magiore said lightly, in answer to her posed question. "I make them sometimes when I find I'm in need of a bit more substance." He shifted slightly in his chair, taking a small sip of his coffee. "It's Habibi, right? How are you?"

When he turned she smiled, a little brighter then the first time they'd met, a little more open. She'd never been much good at introductions, but once those were past she found conversation and company just a little bit easier. "You do very lovely work," she complimented, glancing to the side, at one of the bangles that glittered in the light. She reached out, touching it gently with a fingertip before returning that smile to the jewelry maker.

He remembered her name, and she nodded to let him know he'd gotten it right. "Magoire. I'm doing well." Reasonably. Her life had been turned upside down, but that wasn't a detail she could share with just anyone.

"And how have you been?" A dip of her head, genuine curiosity. "Have sales been good?" He really was quite skilled. Bibi hadn't gone to the mall with the intention of shopping for herself, but she couldn't saw she wasn't tempted by the silver work beside her.
