Rebirth (1007)

On Hallow's Eve is when witches play, werewolves bound, and spirits revel. On Hallow's Eve, old being long slumbered awaken for night of perilous trouble. The blood moon rises and the stars crawl like spiders across the inky black as the people day lock their doors, for this evening is not an evening for the living to play. On Hallow's Eve things are never quite as they seem.

As the mist begun to settle upon the old forest, resting between the charred and rotting carcasses of the once lush trees, something stirred in the darkness. A small form shifted, weaving between the ashen brambles. It was lost and scared as it awoke to find it's home was gone. The weight of it's head made it sway and teeter. The old stump was a heavy burden on the small spirit's shoulders. The red orbs situated within the shadows of the stump's hollows shifted side to side as if searching for another one. In it's horror, it found that it was the lone survivor of a fire that happened during their long sleep.

It stopped, curling onto a pile of ash to howl at the moon. The woods it was sworn to protect was gone along with it's friends. Though, a snap broke the silence and gave the Phantump and start. 'Was there someone else out there besides me?' It thought. If it had a heart, it would've been thudding hard. What if it was something bad, whaft it was something that ate defenseless spirits like it? The Phantump skittered about in a tizzy, afraid of what was coming for it.... when suddenly a faint glow of firefly lights came dancing into it's view.

The form that was highlighted by that light came to view much later and too close for the Phantump's comfort. The new creature leaned in to closely inspect the frightened spirit. “Ah, so there are still Phantumps around. I was worried the fired got all of you.” The figure knelt down on a knee before reaching out to gently wrap it's hands around the spirit's trunk. “There, there. I won't hurt you. I promise.” The creature smiled gently and the Phantump melted. It spirit thought it to be a trusting smiling. “My name is Kaiya and if you wish, I can take you to another part of the forest. The part that's my my home.”

“Home?” it echoed the words of the creature. “Home?” To form the words that came out of it's mouth was odd. It spoke differently than other pokemon did.

“Yes, home. Would you like to come back with me to my home? It's much deeper into the forest. The trees there are older and untouched.”

“Untouched?”

“Yes, yes. It's not burnt like your home is.”

“Home...”

The creature paused for a moment and sighed. “Come, I'll show you.” It began walking, slowly at first. As the first row of trees came into sight though, it began bounding. One moment they were on the ground, the next they were flying through trees. The Phantump couldn't help, but release a short scream. Of course spirits can fly, but it had never gone this fast while dodging trunks and dancing around branches before. By the time they landed, the spirit was dizzy and happy to be back on ground.

“We're here.” It whispered, releasing the Phantump to fumble with the fireflies which seemed trapped within something the spirit couldn't see. “Ah, there's the latch”

Suddenly, they were free and the fireflies flitted about, chasing away the darkness which took the mist with it. The Phantump gazed up in awe at the size of some of the trees here. The spirit's eyes lost track of the trunks as they reached up towards the sky. It was green here and some parts seem overgrown. The heart of the forest was brimming with life that it seemed to overflow. If the sprite had a heart, it would've exploded with joy from seeing something as beautiful as this. From her memories, not even her neck of the woods was this lively.

“Do you have a name?” questioned the creature. “Something I can call you by?”

The spirit paused and tilted it's head quizzically. “Name?”

“Yes, mines is Kaiya. Do you not have a name?”

“No name?”

“Ah. Hm...” The creature seemed to be thinking. It's giant form pacing circles among the foliage of the forest floor. It's long fingers twirled in the air stirring up some of the fallen leaves as younger plants begun to pop up in place. It paused and then quickly whirled around. “How about Destra? Since your home was so desolate... I think... yeah. Destra.”

“Destra?” The Phantump bobbed up and down. It sounded nice. The spirit liked it.

“Though... that would work if you were a girl... Do you even have a gender? Hm...”

“Gender?”

“I will take that as a no. Well, for the sake of names. You are now a girl like me.” Kaiya reached up and poked Destra where one's nose would've been. “Is that okay with you?”

The Phantump bobbed around. It was a curious question to ask after deciding for her. The spirit didn't mind. It seemed on this Hallow eve, she'd made a friend. It was a special event. “Girl!”

“Good. Make yourself at home, Destra. My home is now your home.” Kaiya opened her arms wide and gestured to the surroundings. She smiled as Destra rose in the air, taking in all the sights and as the Phantump took off deeper into the forest, she could have sworn she heard Kaiya's laughter. The ghost type seemed unfazed by it. She was far too excited to explore this section of thick forests. This Halloween was a wonderful one though originally filled with sadness. It was turning into a night of wonder and peace. The ghost pokemon spent the rest of the evening exploring her new home till dawn greeted her. Only then did she sink into the safety of a hollowed tree to rest her wooden head.
