They had left the foothills behind and found themselves climbing higher and higher into the mountains. According to the map they had to make it over a place called Dragon's Peak before they would find the path that had been blocked. Isambard shivered a little as they crunched along the snow covered path that wound itself up the mountain and decided that whatever Maia's people were mining it must have been worth living in such a remote location.
Talia pulled her gloves on as they met with snow and pulled a long scarf out from her pack. "Wish I had brought a few more layers." She remarked as she wound the scarf around her neck.

Azriel looked to Talia with concern. He was cold, but he was used to cold. "Would you like my scarf? You could wrap it over your head and ears," he offered with a smile.
Cyrus had not had to put on much more than a coat. Sometimes, being a being of fire came in handy. Silently he led the way up the snow covered track. He walked around a bend and then stopped with a frown. Something was not right. "I think we are being watched," he said quietly to Isambard, his eyes scanning the peaks around them.

Talia smiled and accepted the offer. "Thank you." She said, doing as he suggested, she had a coat but she did not want to use it until she absolutely had to.
Isambard was getting a similar uncomfortable feeling, when Cyrus stopped he glanced up at the peaks and nodded. "I agree, something really really is not right. Maia didn't mention any dangers." He mused right before a loud, animalistic growl echoed around the mountains.

Az took advantage of the brief stop to turn and help Talia wrap the scarf so that it would keep her head warm. The growl caused him to jump a little and he put out an arm to put himself between Talia and whatever danger might be around. "Stay close Tal," he whispered as he scanned around them.
Cyrus did not flinch as the growl echoed around them. He was reaching out to see if he could find where it had come from when the danger made itself known. A large beast swooped down out of the clouds and was heading straight for them. "Dragon," he frowned deeply. This was bad. This was very, very bad, he thought as he moved himself in between the beast and Isambard.

Talia jumped at the sound of the growl and smirked as Azriel did the manly thing and stepped in front of her. "Did I mention I was in the army?" She said to him, looking up as Cyrus spoke to see the creature swooping out of the sky, none of them were armed, not the smartest decision in the world. Another roar, not from the one that was sweeping towards them. "There are two." She said.
Isambard looked from Cyrus to Talia and breathed in deeply as he watched the pair swoop from the sky. If they had fire they would not get away without a roasting. "Find cover! Everyone!" He shouted, looking to the rocks.

Az gave a little, nervous laugh as Talia reminded him that she had been in the army. As the creature made itself known, he took a step back closer to her. "Did you ever face anything like that in the army?" he smirked nervously and turned a little as there was a second roar and Talia said there was a second one. As Isambard shouted for them to find cover, he quickly grabbed Talia's hand and dragged her over to a small outcropping of rocks. He shoved her under first without much ceremony and then ducked down after her.
As the second beast appeared, Cyrus felt an uncharacteristic skip of his heart. One dragon would be hard enough to face. He was fairly certain he would not be able to handle two. As the first beast opened its mouth, he swallowed hard and gave Isambard a rough shove behind some rocks. Jumping after him, he clapped his hands together and opened them, providing enough protection for himself and Isambard as the dragon let loose an intense fireball right at them.

"Can't be much different from a fighter craft." She said, as she started to run, though they had had guns and other weapons. She almost tripped as Az shoved her and landed on the snow covered floor with a hard shove. She curled up and protected her head with her arms, feeling the heat from the flames even from where they were hidden.
Isambard rolled as he was shoved and let Cyrus do his thing. "Do you think you can get rid of them?" He asked, shifting so he could peer around the rocks and see if there was another way through the mountains, he could see some of the men, cowering behind a rock across the way from them but not Azriel and Talia.

Azriel grunted as the heat surrounded them and he turned to wrap himself around Talia. She could claim women's rights and equality later. He wasn't about to turn off thirty years' worth of instincts to protect now. When the fire died down, he peered over his shoulder and then looked up sharply as there was a loud crunch above their heads. Honestly, he had never been so scared before. He had never come up against a beast so big and terrifying. Peering back out, he could see the large lizard's tail sweeping back and forth. "s**t," he whispered and held her tighter as their covering gave an ominous groan under the beast's weight.
Cyrus groaned under the strain against the fire, then released his power once the fireball had passed. "I could have if there were one. I don't know about two," he answered honestly as he watched the small of the two land on some rocks. "I think the bigger one is teaching the other to hunt," he frowned as the other made a wide arch back up into the sky.

Talia was not going to complain about being protected but she was not frightened, her training had kicked in and the only thing on her mind was how they were going to get out of it. She shifted and moved to look to their right, there was a bit of a path and what looked like a cave. "Azriel, over there." She said softly, pointing. "If we move fast and keep low we could make it."
Isambard was not encouraged to hear that. Though he had a plan forming. "If we could distract them somehow, distract them enough to get through the path, I imagine they stay high up, where it's easy for them to swoop." He suggested, though really he was making it up as he went along.

Az looked away from the sweeping tail to the small exit they had available to them. He assessed it quickly, then nodded in agreement. "I'll go out first. You follow if it's safe," he said before peeling himself off of her and easing towards the space. Slowly, carefully, he eased himself through the opening and he glanced up. The dragon was looking up towards the sky and he turned and quickly gestured for Talia to join him.
Cyrus breathed in deeply and watched the larger dragon circle back around towards them. "After this pass, you grab the men and go. I will hold it off. As long as the other does not get involved, I will be okay," he said with a confident nod.

Talia watched as Azriel made a run for it and then counted and followed after him, keeping low as she moved quickly towards the cave. At least they would be able to wait the attack out there.
Isambard nodded to Cyrus and gave him a smile. "Good luck." He said, before turning back and gesturing to the men that they were to follow him when he gave the signal. He crouched at the ready and breathed in deeply. "Ready?" He whispered as the dragon turned back to their direction.

Az watched the dragon as Talia made a run for the cave. Just as she had hid the halfway point, the dragon's head swung around and it gave a terrifying roar before it began to run after her. With no other options available, Azriel grabbed the closest, biggest rock he could manage and he heaved it at the large beast as he ran off to the side, away from Talia. "Hey!" he shouted waved his arms to distract it from Talia.
Cyrus nodded as the other began to swoop down. The shout of 'Hey' pulled is attention away from the great beast's mouth and he frowned as the other dragon began to run away from them. "Azriel," he growled a little and looked back to the beast that was barreling down on them. "As long as he holds the other's attention, I might be able to bring this one down," he declared and prepared for the next fireball. This time, he planned to catch the inferno. As the dragon opened its mouth, he hopped up onto the rock before them and braced himself.

Isambard nodded and got ready, as soon as the dragon was distracted he waved for them men to move and began to run for the narrow pass through the mountain.
Talia looked back as the dragon hurtled after her. "Az, come on." She shouted, charging past the dragon and into the cave. "Az, leave it."

Az watched the beast come after him, then he turned and ran as fast as he could to the cave. Just as he was about to make it, his foot slipped on some ice and he fell hard to the ground. Scrambling a bit, he reached out to Talia and didn't dare look back as he heard the dragon coming after him.
Cyrus felt his feet slip as he caught the fire that had been aimed at him. Using his power, he shaped it into a large ball and he hurled it as hard as he could back at the dragon. As far as he knew, the only thing that could hurt a dragon was dragon's fire. He sure hoped he was right.

Talia reached out to gerab Azriel's hand tightly and heaved him up and into the cave, falling over backwards as she managed to get him inside.
Isambard ran as fast as he could, leading the men to the path and down the pass, if they could get lower then they would be safe from the dragons. He just hoped that Cyrus would be able to fend the dragons off and get out alive. Isambard did not really have friends ... but if he had to choose one it would be Cyrus.
