User ImageNyomi was mean, and Reika wasn't always there. Nor was Kyouka. They were distant. They were funny and weird, and not in the good way. They didn't really pay attention to anything, like they were always looking at something far away. They were always sad. Mistsorrow didn't know why they were sad. He didn't know why they were always distant, except that they were, and that it wasn't much better than Nyomi. Well, that was a lie--she was mean, and nasty, and she didn't seem to like any of them--especially Mistsorrow.

Life would be totally unbearable if not for his other sisters. Miyako and Astray--they weren't mean, and they weren't distant. They were the colt's world. When the voice in his head got too loud, he would try to get distracted with them. Playing, or even just spending time with them--it didn't matter. They were his sisters, and he needed them. He loved them. He couldn't imagine life without them.

Right now, he was sitting underneath a tree--what kind of tree, he didn't know. He'd run off from the mansion to get away from other people, and had taken shelter under the tree. There was a little thing nearby. He thought it might have been a shrine at one point in time, but it was a bit too mossy and lichen-y to tell. The thick mist that eternally lay over the ground didn't help things, but it did help hide the colt sitting under the tree to all but the shortest of observers.

User Image She Ran as fast as she as though Nyomi was on her tail. Nyomi hated her and her siblings, she always bullied her, especially her brother, Astray didn't understand why, she wanted to be with her two siblings. But she had things to learn, some of the ghosts had taught her things about caring for the rift. The nice ghosts that is... There were some really scary ones like the engravers she didn't want to go anywhere near them.

Down the hall ways, around corners and through doors, Astray slipped out of the mansion, breathing a sigh of relief, Reika had shown her a quick way out, she didn't know why the older mare cared but if Reika was around Nyomi would always back off leaving Astray alone. It was hard enough to get a candle too... Nyomi wouldn't let them, instead they'd be run into the mansion to deal with the scary ghosts themselves. Though often a candle would appear beside her when she was crying she never saw who gave it to her.

Astray hated it in there so much. She wanted to snuggle with her mother and litter mates without her sister bullying and yelling at them, though her mother was never always there it just wasn't fair. Astray Shivered, looking around carefully trying to make sure none of the ghosts followed her.

Astray's gave fell upon her tiny brother hiding behind the stone, cautiously approached, looking to see if Nyomi was around, she'd feel terrible if she was the cause of her brother getting caught...

"Mist" she whispered. from the other side of the stone her head peaking around the corner with a little smile. She loved being a lone with her siblings, things never felt to bad then, she'd never been able to explain why.

Miyako also knew about these ghosts too well. She went in the mansion almost as often as Astray, her estrogen filled body keeping her safer than Mist would be. It was a miracle he was still here. Not that she minded, of course. She felt a little distanced from her siblings because of her personality, but she did enjoy their company. Where they were afraid, their circumstances made Miyako mad. At least it was beginning to. When the fear disappeared, it was replaced with frustration so strong it had grown into anger. Mother was sometimes comforting. Unfortunately she couldn't always be there. The foal was still too young to know why. The only thing she knew was the sadness in her mother's eyes that brightened, not all the way, but brightened, when she took care of her children. What kept her from doing this all the time, Miyako couldn't understand. That's what parents did, wasn't it? Care for their children.

The sound of tiny hooves caught Miyako's attention. Her little ears shifted towards the noise, taking priority away from checking behind her. She peeked around the corner of the rotting shrine in time to see a little white tail dash by. Common fear-not that she'd admit it to anyone, including her siblings-kept her from running after the other foal. Just in case something was chasing her sister. 'Specially if it was a certain ghost after her. Some were sneaky. Engravers were not. They were the loudest, making a weird scratchy sound long before they even showed themselves. Rooted to the spot, she waited, breathing as slowly as she dared.

A faint whisper came from behind her, too faint for her ears to hear where they focused in front of her. A hand gripped the edge of the corner behind her as a face with bright eyes stared around the corner at her. It slowly moved into view, still unnoticed by the foal. Not until a chilling whisper sent the hairs on her body to stand on end.

"Must...Close...The Chamber of Thorns. It's your duty...."

Miyako only gave the figure behind her enough of a look to see an old white mare with a high headdress stretching out one of many hands towards her. Hands with fingers for grasping. She stood frozen to the spot until one of those hands nearly made contact with her flank before she moved, taking off like a bullet down the halls. The ghosts were only supposed to stay in the Manor of Sleep. Why did her grandmother have to follow her out?

Hooves rang on the wood as she burst from the broken doors, making for the trees. A look behind her showed her Yashuu hovering in the doorway, than slinking back inside the shrine. Miyako slowed to a stop, watching in both fear and fascination. Wondering over why the ghost wouldn't leave the building.

This didn't last long, however, as fear of something else coming out that had heard her hooves quickly made her keep moving. She wondered where mother was.

A soft sound caught her ear and she almost peeled out, again, until she seen a familiar shape, standing the same height from the ground as she did. Curious and wanting the comfort of another living soul, she moved closer, butting Astray with her head. Flicking her tail back and forth.

"Grandmother is out, again," was all she said.

Mistsorrow had tried entering the ruins of the mansion a few times, but it was almost always when his mother was around. He'd gone in alone once. Exactly once. It was an experience he planned never to repeat. When Kyouka wasn't around, he'd sleep in places like these--little hollows under trees or in ditches or suchlike. Those ghosts that weren't creepy were downright malevolent--or a combination of both. And for some reason, they hated him more than his sisters. Oh, they'd chase Astray or Miyako, but it seemed that if their choices were Astray and Miyako or Mistsorrow, they always preferred the colt. It wasn't fair!

Which wasn't to say his sisters liked the ghosts either. He was glad of that, secretly--if they weren't in the mansion, then they could be with him, and he liked that much more than wandering around by himself, hoping to avoid Nyomi. She was just as bad as the ghosts, as far as he was concerned. He guessed he was cursed like that--the only things that seemed to care about him were Miyako and Astray and maybe one other ghost--the one that looked a bit like their mother. She wasn't worth the trip inside, though. Only if Kyouka was around would he ever step hoof in that cursed place.

Astray's red eye loomed out of the mist around the shrine. Mist blinked and stood up, butting his head against his sister's forehead. He smiled back at her. "Astray," he whispered back. He didn't know why he whispered--he just preferred it that way. Already his day was looking up, and it got even better a few seconds later--another pair of red eyes had appeared out of the mist, this time belonging to Miyako. He turned towards her and gave her a smile, too. This time, however, the smile was tempered with nervous glances around. Grandmother. Yashuu. The worst. Unconsciously, he pressed his sides against his sisters' as if they could protect him from the ghost. He nuzzled Miyako. She'd gotten away. Good.
