Nevada had been in her room a little over a week, or almost a week since the mission. Since she had been in the Sahara of death. It had been a week of quiet and depression, of locking herself in her room mostly, not coming out for anyone.

She was so tired of being so sensitive to others. That their small things bothered her, hurt her in a small way.

At the same time, she couldn't do anything, as she allowed this people to come close to her. For her to develop feelings for them. It had been so much easier when she was just looking out for her sister. Just her twin and her.

She moped a bit longer, dressing slowly before taking the small book of Alice in wonderland, the gift from Candace and leaving to find another person she cared about.

It didn't take long to get to the girl's dorm, and the quiet raps on Abbi's door, she hoped the girl was at least home.

A week was a fairly long time in which for someone to just sit in their room, shut away from the world and heal what they could of both their body and their heart. Unaware that the lovely Nevada was doing the same, Abbi had been transported from the hospital wing to her room and not really bothered to leave. Every so often she would hobble on down to the showers just to wash her hair, but she never lingered and could always be heard coming back by the litany of "ow ow ow cheese and crackers ow ow ow" she chanted as she made her way back to her room. Which was, coincidentally, exactly what she was in the process of doing right as Nevada tapped on her door.
Though the Fear shield or whatever it was that was helping the healing process (they had explained it to her, but Abbi might have been mildly doped up on pain medication at the time), getting acid sprayed on one's legs combined with burns from random blue fire did not necessarily mean a speedy recovery. It made a faster recovery, but the teen was still hobbling and whining a week since. She was doing much better, the pain now just a dull, annoying ache compared to the hellfire it had been when she'd woken up.

But the pain is easy to forget when Abbi looks up to see Nevada, a small squeak of joy leaving her.
"Hi! Wow hi are you-- Are you coming to visit me?!" She asked in way of greeting, not really bouncing but doing her level best to wiggle and look overall excited for a visitor. Especially one as cool and pretty as Nevada. The overall look of her friend did not go unnoticed, but there would be time to speak on that later so Abbi only smiled and unlocked the door for her.

"And you brought a book! How nice! Are we going to have story time?" Abbi looked honestly excited for that.
The room she led Nevada into was sparsely furnished, but colorful where it was decorated. Mostly it was in the form of construction paper signs with positive phrases doodled in Abbi's own hand, but she'd managed to smuggle a few things from home with her onto the Island. Mostly colorful Hello Kitty slippers that had been tossed carelessly onto the floor and brightly colored novels spread out on the bed.
"Sorry for the mess... Not really had a lot to do during my uh... Time off." She pointed to her still bandaged legs before she shuffled to her bed and climbed onto it, smiling at Nevada in indication she could sit wherever she so chose.

Nevada looked over as Abbi came up, eye widening up at the girls damage. "Hey there gingersnap." She reached out to catch the girl from her wiggling, mistaking the excitement for perhaps pain. "Yeah I came to visit." Nevada smiled, letting her mouth crinkle at the corners a little.

"I was going to read some stories, it's what Candace did for me when i was in my coma, though yours is severely less then my time, I thought you'd enjoy at least someone hanging out with you." Nevada followed Abbi in, not surprised by the lack of furnishings. Her's and Stormy's only collected with time.

"No problem hun...You should see mine and Stormy's....clothes everywhere...." Nevada chuckled a little, looking for a spot before deciding to join Abbi on the bed, making sure not to hit her legs. She kind of sat by her like an older sister would too a younger, holding the book out in front of them.

"Before we start reading....how are you doing Abbi?" Nevada looked over to the redhead..."Are you okay?"

A flush of face and giggle pops out of Abbi before she can stop it, one hand slapping against her mouth at the nickname.
"Gingersnap! That's cute!" And from Nevada it was all the cuter and more awesome. After her brave display in the Sahara, the older girl had totally won all of Abbi's respect and adoration, along with the tiniest bit of a girl crush. The role model kind where Abbi wanted to be just like Nevada when she grew up and found, especially today when she was volunteering her time to visit the teen, that she could do no wrong.
"I don't know Candace, but if she read you stories while you were out that's really nice of her!" Who knew Deus was full of such nice people? For a second Abbi almost asked after the coma, but instead her gaze lingered on Nevada's covered eye for a moment before she gave the girl a nod. It was the best way she had to say 'if you want to talk, go ahead otherwise I'll wait', without actually saying it. It was one of the few social graces the teen had gleaned over the years and only because she had her own things she wanted to hide.

"I guess I can't say that I don't hang out with people a lot, cause I do a lot more than I used to. But thank you! For hangin' out with me!" If it was possible for the girl to show how excited she was over someone to seek out her company, Abbi would have done it in a heart beat. As it were, she was left to flash wide, excited eyes at Nevada and glitter at her as though she rose and set the sun.
"Woooow you room with Stormy? That's so cute! I bet its lots of fun! Um..." Finally the teen dimmed, plucking one of the two braids off her shoulder to worry the end. "Is uh... Is Stormy doing ok?" Since Abbi had yet to really check up on her friend, she had to rely on what others told her. And while she felt she could trust Jack and Finn to give her the absolute worst, and therefore most honest, condition of the girl, there was something wrong about listening to their opinions on Stormy. So far out of the loop she was on another planet when it came to that situation, Abbi decided that perhaps she could try to ask after it today. Maybe.... Maybe....

A surprised noise from her own mouth interrupted the teen's thought process and she nodded quickly at Nevada's concern.
"Y-yeah! I'm ok!" She tried a smile that faltered the second it turned up and Abbi sighed heavily. "Not really no... I uh... That was um... My first... Er... Near death experience here at Deus?" And certainly the first one she'd had in a few years. "And um... My friends are hurt. Ripley and Finn and Jack... Ripley's throat..." She wasn't going to say that because even thinking about it made her feel all sorts of choked up. Instead Abbi shook her head and looked down at her hands.
"Its just really, really scary."
Now is the time she should ask the same of Nevada, but for right now Abbi can only think of how frightened she still feels. How she knows this will undoubtedly happen again.

She was happy that the girl seemed happy. Even if it was something so small. Nicknames came easily to Nevada, so it didn't seem too bad.

"It's a shame you're a moon, She's got a fondness for mist trainees. We're her..." She thought for a second, "We're like her babies. Kind of like Aria too. Aria is a little meaner but, it's for a good reason." She nodded. "it was when I lost my eye, you don't have a good poker face I hope you know."

She closed her other, taking a breath.

"It's no secret but I'll tell you anyways, so you know that death experiences aren't all that rare." She took another breath, "Short story, Don't get involved with boys who are going to break your heart, and then take that heart to the haunted house, because the haunted house will pay you back in kind. I met a halloween creature, it possessed my body, broke my arm...dug out my eye and left me for dead. Candace was the one that found me, I was in a coma for a week and half..." She sighed. "Just to tell you the basics. You survived ,and you survived whole." She poked at Abbi's side, smiling now.

"Any time you need a gal pal Abbi, do not hesitate to come to me? I'm a good listener, and I'm always here for you okay?" She wrapped an arm around the girl. "Girls gotta stick together."

She laughed again, "yes it is, it's a good thing we get together so well. She's a big disney fan, so we tend to have a lot of disney moments. And she's a good listener too. She's saved my a** a lot." Nevada looked thoughtful, "Stormy's probably one of the few people I truly love on the island." At the mention of her being okay, Nevada looked sheepish for a moment. "Unfortunately, I haven't seen her since the Sahara...I needed some space away since...." She shook her head, "But I believe she is recovering well...better then most of us..." Physically at least, mentally well...she didn't know.

She hugged Abbi again. "We have good days here Abbi...we have bad days...and we have really bad days. Its a vicious cycle. Our weakness is that we are ultimately humans. Feelings, thoughts, insecurities. These are all weaknesses for us. But they can be our strengths too. You had this experience, You'll be less surprised, less afraid, less worried the next time it happens." There was a sad look.

"Because it'll happen again."

"Mist Babiessss with their Mist Mama!" That had been an honest attempt at making up nicknames and it had failed. Hoping to hurry on along, the girl nodded as Nevada spoke. "It sounds like a lot of really nice people are in Mist!" Which was good. Miss Cass had spoken of finding people who would help protect one on the Island, so Abbi was glad to hear that was actually a possibility.
But her smile disappeared when the older girl mentioned her poor poker face. A small noise of shock left the teen (she wasn't honestly surprised, she knew she couldn't lie to save her life) and she clenched her hands together.
"My poker face is great!" She squeaked, but quickly quieted when Nevada took a breath. That was always a sign of an impending explanation and it would have been a lie to say that Abbi was not curious about what had happened to the girl's eye.
Sure to stay quiet, Abbi folded her hands in her lap, shifting her legs gently on the bed with a wince that she pretended covered up hearing about Nevada digging out her own eye. For a little while she stayed quiet before she took her own breath.

"How do I keep a boy from taking my heart to the Haunted House?" That was totally a legit question because Abbi was definitely going to follow Nevada's advice as closely as possible. Her hands twisted together in her lap, mouth puckered in a worried pout.
"I'm sorry that happened to you... But I'm really glad you're ok... And that yanno... Miss Candance was nice enough to help you."
Surprised to find her side poked Abbi laughed once, sharp and quick, eager to mimic Nevada's smile back. It was the least she could do...
"Y-yeah? YEAH! I mean yeah! You too!" She scooted closer to Nevada and the safety of her hug, flushing lightly. "I've never really had friends, and never a uh... A gal pal..." And never had she honestly believed someone wanted to be the same to her. But today, she did.

A low "ooooh" of appreciation left Abbi to hear that Stormy liked Disney so well, the teen wiggling a little.
"Do you have a favorite movie? Or Princess? I bet its Belle!" Because brunettes, obviously.
But all excited movements stopped at the sheepish way Nevada admitted to not keeping better tabs on Stormy. That pout came back and the girl looked up at her friend.
"Why did you need some space?"

The mention of good days, bad days, and worse days made the teen sigh, her head dropping to rest against Nevada. Hands that had been bandaged only a few days before wrung against themselves.
"I know it will. That's why... That's why I'm not ok." And honestly, she would probably never be ok. Seeing the people she cared about get hurt was terrifying. It was ugly and it ached and getting injured had been nearly as bad. Even if this was life now, Abbi didn't want to accept it. As a Moon, she felt validated in this opinion. As a young teenage girl with little life experience under her belt, she felt absolutely terrified.

Nevada gave Abbi a pointed stare. "We aren't like...Candace baby chicks or whatever. But I think she likes to think so." She nodded, "Mist is a really special division. I think more so then others since we fill in everywhere...Belong to no one."

"No I think it needs work...Slowly surely." She teased. After the story, the question from Abbi surprised her and made her laugh a little.

"You don't give it away unless you really trust that boy." She settled down, "Or don't go to the haunted house. That's a good option as well...."

Her brow raised at Abbi, "Why not? You're cute. Bubbly. Why wouldn't you have friends?" She wondered if the girl was bullied, which if that was the case, she would have strong words for people. STRONG WORDS.

"I like Sleeping Beauty..." Nevada smiled softly now, "It's mine and my twin's favorite. I use to pretend I was the sleeping princess, waiting for my prince. I always made Alaska play the prince." She laughed. "But Belle is reserved for another girl. According to Stormy, I believe that girl is Sherry, of the life division."

"Because on the Sahara mission..." Nevada didn't know how to explain it to Abbi, that overwhelming fear for the people she card about, the way her best friend looked when spitting blood up. The way she couldn't handle thinking if Stormy could die...would die at that moment. "It hurt and scared me more than I thought...So I am taking some time to heal from it."

"We don't want too..." She added, looking away. "It's not okay, but it's easier to deal with it when we prepare for it...isn't it?" She didn't know anymore.

Yeah, yeah, yeah sure whatever you say Nevada. The teen smiled anyways, feeling warm over such dedication to one's own division. Moon was a good place for Abbi, but she hadn't found her niche just yet. There were lots of things to learn, lots of training she hadn't done yet but she knew she was close. Knowing that Nevada was so content in her division made things seem more hopeful. It made it feel like Abbi could have the same sort of warmth and devotion to the people around her.
"Do you have a specialty?" Wasn't that what Mist did?

Not wanting to seem impetuous, Abbi just couldn't help herself. The words tumbled out before she could stop them.
"But didn't you really trust that boy?" Why else would she have gone to the Haunted House in the first place? And how was Abbi supposed to know who she could and couldn't trust? Wasn't that the whole point of living was to make mistakes in who you trusted?
Abbi sighed with a soft puckering of her eyebrows, not at all sure how to feel. Both Nevada and Cass had told her to be wary of boys, well not exactly that but close enough. Maybe it was really just meant for the teen to be alone forever.
As for no friends, the teen shrugged and looked down at her hands.
"I dunno... Guess I'm just too bubbly... I'm not that cute.. And everyone always thought I was weird back home." Kind of the territory for a girl who complained of seeing shadows when none were there. "So being here at Deus is really the first time I've been able to really make friends... Its been nice." Maybe for other people that would be sad, but to Abbi it was just fine.

"Sleeping Beauty is soooo pretty. I can see why she's your favorite, you two have a lot in common." She smiled at the idea of such a memory, letting her eyes unfocus a little to imagine the scene. Maybe she hadn't even met Nevada's sister, but she could imagine and it was pretty cute.
"Oohh? Does Stormy give everyone Disney princesses? I bet she's got one assigned to everyone already..." But maybe there was one she hadn't given away that Abbi could have?

A deep breath was taken before Abbi moved closer to snuggle up with Nevada a little.
"I think... I'm sure Stormy understands. But I hope you can go back to her. She seems lonely... So I hope you heal soon. Its not like you wouldn't, our weapons speed it up, right?" That was half a joke, half a childish attempt at some hope.

"I don't know. On the battlefield, I hit like a sun. But I tend to stick around life labs off duty." She hesitated, "I'm not very good at being a death hunter or a Moon hunter..." She laughed. "Maybe one day I will be."

"I did, it just...wasn't the trust he was thinking of." She waited, "Just...be careful Abbi." She patted the girl's head, "Don't be rash. think everything through."

She snorted. "High school was always a bad place, it's a social upbringing to bring others down, whether it be by class, looks or interest. Don't take stock in that s**t, the real world outside of high school is fun. People are opening and warm." She shrugged, "I like you, I think you're adorable and fun. And youthful, my old age needs reminders of youth today." She laughed.

She nodded, waving her hand. "Well we do both like to sleep...a lot." She laughed. "I think she does. I know Sherry is beauty and Candace I think she consider Jasmine...." She tapped her lip. "Ami's a captain but I can't remember from what. The boys get hero names too. Evan is Hercules..."

"The better the connection with the weapon, the better the healing time." She nodded. "I'll heal faster then you do, because I'm a intermediate...but I won't heal as fast as a full hunter." She rubbed her heart, "hope its the same for the spirit." She flipped open a page.

"Ready for story time?"

"Maybe... Maybe I can help you be a good Moon hunter! I'm just starting out but... But I can teach you stuff when I learn it!" The teen perked up at that, clenching her fists with the promise of being beneficial to someone she admired. Especially when it seemed an important part of her job. "An-and maybe Ripley can help too! He's in Death and he's really, super duper nice! He carried me once... And actually when we were uh... Yanno... But he's really smart too! I bet he could help you too!" For a few seconds Abbi sparkled at Nevada before the topic dipped down again.
Reluctant to accept the advice simply because it meant that the mistakes she made here would be grander than the ones in the normal world, Abbi did finally nod her acceptance to Nevada.
"I'll be careful." She told her in a soft voice, biting back a sigh that would show her disdain for the subject. Thinking things through came naturally to the teen, but she wanted to make mistakes, she wanted to learn what that was like and recover from it. After nearly dying in the Sahara, getting a little hurt emotionally seemed as though it wouldn't hurt as bad. Perhaps she was wrong, but Abbi was also still very young.

It was nice to hear that high school was bad for everyone, which seemed strange since most of the people in the girl's own high school had looked as if they had enjoyed their experiences. But she was not going to make rash judgements like that, so Abbi instead focused on the compliments Nevada gave her. A soft blush warmed her cheeks and made the freckles on either side of her nose stand out a little more, but the teen continued to smile.
"Thanks... But you're not that old? You're like what... 19? That's so young!" It was really young, but it did make the girl curious to know how Nevada had ended up in a place like this when she seemed so happy. She was so pretty! What had happened in her life to put her here?
"Maybe I'll have to go ask her if she's picked one out for me..."

The motion of Nevada's hand against her chest caught Abbi's attention, her smile fading. Her mouth turned into a small pout, but she reached out to give Nevada's hand a small squeeze.
"I bet your weapon is really nice to you and likes you a bunch... So I bet it'll heal your heart up all nice! And if it doesn't... Well um... I'll do my best ok?" That was the most she could promise for as much as she wanted to promise other things, it was simply impossible. Still, Abbi offered her friend a small, hopeful smile.

"Y-yeah! I haven't had anyone read to me in ages... It'll be nice." Her eyes crinkled a little with appreciation and the girl shuffled some pillows around so that she could rest her head on a pillow next to Nevada's thigh, even if it meant making a few squeaky noises of pain to move her legs.
