It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn

So it was, the two groups prepared. Tensions ran high on both sides, for there was a sense of foreboding finality that hung thick over the lands. While not all in the Kawani cared to get involved in this fight over power and land and resources, while not every soquili wished to get between the opposing forces, there were enough to promise much bloodshed.

Who would live? Who would die? Which side would come out victorious?

It was entirely possible that no clear winner would be decided, even after the two groups separated. There was no guarantee for tomorrow, there was no certainty that either side would be left standing. Whatever the consequence, both sides knew that this fight would be bloody and result in many casualties. There were times for diplomacy, but this time was not one of them.

So, one quiet morning, at the edges of the kalona's stolen territory, the two sides allowed each other to meet. There were no great speeches, no posturing, no fronting for one another. This day, there was only a great battle cry, and a rush of hooves, leather, and feathers as the two sides were given orders to attack. This was not a thing of beauty, but of bloodshed, hate, and power. Some fought for justice, others simply for the thrill; some fought to reclaim their homes, while others fought to keep their land.

This was war.

How to Play

1. Twelve soquili sign up for the event, each from a different owner. Sign Ups are first-come, first-serve, and you must pick a side to sign up for -- the Great Kalona Herd or the Defending Kawani Herd!

2. Uta will roll a single d20 dice. This is the random dice. It can sometimes be good, sometimes be bad, depending what number. It is considered neutral and 0. For this round, any player who gets the neutral dice gets 0 points, but they also neither do well, nor fail.

3. Everyone else will roll a sing d20 and match it to the logs above. Those who roll the matching Uta number, get a 0 and automatically move on to the next round.

4. They will then look at the Action Log and find where their soquili falls. This gives a general prompt telling you what happened to your soquili during that particular skirmish. In some cases, your soquili will walk away victorious and gain points for their 'team'. In some cases, your soquili will walk away defeated, and lose points for their 'team'.

5. Winners of their round will automatically move on to fight again. Players who roll a -1 are wounded, but will also move on to fight again. Players who roll a -2 or -3, are defeated and out for the rest of the game. The rounds will continue as long as there are winning soquili on both sides. I will simply continue to pair winners from different sides up against one another. The game will end only when one side runs out of winning fighters.

6. At that point, I will raffle off the first pick winner to those remaining on the winning side. I will also raffle off the second pick winner to everyone who signed up for the winning teams side. And I will then roll third winner from EVERYONE who signed up. I will also take a tally of points. The side that has the most points will be considered the winning side, and I will move on the Kalona Meta accordingly.

If there is a draw, it will go in favor of the Defending Kawani Herd and will move Meta accordingly.

Example

Battle 1: C, of the Great Kalona Herd, and D and E, of the Defending Herd are playing! Uta had rolled a 5.

C rolls 7.
D rolls 18.
E rolls a 5

7 = You fought well, and were able to deter a few kalona. WIN.(+ 2 pts)

18 = You were taken down by an angeni, their holy light blinding you. That was all that was needed to be tackled, and knocked out for the rest of the battle. LOSE (- 3 pts).

5 = Neutral roll for this round. No paints gained or lost for E.

These rolls will dictate the ultimate out come of the actual battle. In this case, C and E moves on to the next round, while D is knocked out of the game.

The Kalona Scenarios

1 You manage a successful aerial attack, dropping down on the unsuspecting soquili with spine shattering force. WIN (+3pts)

2 A draft mare lashes out with her hooves, putting full force behind her kick to the head. You see stars before the ground rises up to meet you. Ouch! DEFEATED (-2pts)

3 With an audible crunch, you snap your jaws down hard on the leg of a delicate usdia. How foolish of them to think such a tiny morsel could defeat you! WIN (+1pts)

4 A particularly nasty fire ulun'suti manages to burn your wingsail. You walk away just a bit more crispy. WOUNDED (-1pt)

5 You're paired against a wretched unikalona! Thankfully, in your fury and disgust, you manage to drive it off, bloodied and bruised. WIN (+2pt)

6 A flutter, shrunk down to miniature size, has managed to kick you close to your eye with their hooves! WOUNDED (-1pt)

7 Three against one aren't very good odds. Still, you're not about ready to tuck tail and run! You put up a great fight, and evne manage to take one of them in a flurry of wings and claws, but ultimately, they break your body of its ability to fight. DEFEATED (-3pt)

8 Faced against some sort of mutated freak, this lesser might have paws and gleaming fangs, but it is nothing compared to your greatness. One distraction is all it takes, and you make your move straight to the throat. WIN (+2pt)

9 The kirin wasn't a hardened warrior, but he was making a valiant effort. Unfortunately, he forgot that your tail is as formidable weapon as your fangs and horns. With a sharp crack, you slice the Kirin's face, the force of the blow causing it to stumble back in shock. WIN (+1 pt)

10 It is not your day. You had been so intent on driving back an obnoxious imp that had zapped you earlier, that you didn't see the wind make a dive. It isn't fun being on the receiving end of a swooping aerial attack, and you go down. Hard. DEFEATED (-3pt)

11 Success is yours! showing off your prowress, you manage to break the wing of a valiant alicorn. They drop like a stone, and you can carry on the attack. WIN (+3pt)

12 Sonofakelpie! You were just rammed in the side by an armor clad, rainbow coated regular. You're pretty sure something broke, but it's pain you can fight through. Cheater! WOUNDED (-1pt)

13 A kelpie has proven far too difficult to take down. Its fangs, in addition to its scales, has left you cut up and bleeding-- especially the deep gash on your underbelly. Better retreat and get patched up else risk bleeding to death. DEFEATED (-2pt)

14 One swift kick to the head, and that wolf won't live to see another day. Familiars -- hmph! WIN (+1pt)

15 You twisted wrong, and now you've got a pulled wing muscle. It's painful, but you'll fight on. WOUNDED(-1pt)

16 The hippogryph is a formidable force, with its peculiar claws and its ability to climb and wait in trees. Still, you manage to tear one down from the sky, tangling it in your tail, and leaving its pale coat blood splattered. Tearing its feathers, ignoring its beak bite into you, you manage to throw it hard in to the fray below. WIN (+2pts)

17 Up against another kalona -- except this one is not part of your herd. You've watched it battle side by side with the lessers, and you are determined to smite its existence! The battle isn't easy, but you're prepared to do what it takes -- this sort of betrayal cannot go unpunished. And punish them you do. WIN (+3pts)

18 You were taken down by an angeni, their holy light blinding you. That was all that was needed to be tackled, and knocked out for the rest of the battle. DEFEATED (- 3 pts)

19 This mare has two sets of wings -- some angeni cross, perhaps? -- but it is powerless. There is no holy light to stop you. Giving a fierce bellow, you manage to hit her hard with your tail, before whirling round to dig your horns deep in to her chest. She won't be getting up from that anytime soon. WIN (+3pt)

20 The battle was fierce, but you find yourself at the mercy of the strange monster before you. It's a hippo'suti, complete with some mutant beak, claws, and retractable talons that have caused you to be torn to shreds. This is a well accomplished warrior -- you may have worn it out, but you find yourself collapsed at its hooves. DEFEATED (-2pt)

The Kawani Scenarios

1 There is absolutely no mercy with this mare. She is large, she is strong, and she is wiping the floor with your body. She's managed to get you down, body torn up, but she will not leave until you're no longer a threat. There's a sharp snap as she breaks bone, her cloven hooves digging in deep upon your back leg. After that, your body gives in to the pain, your eyes roll up to the back of your head, and you pass out. DEFEATED(-3pts)

2 The kalona headbutts you with their horns. It's enough to stop you in your tracks, disorienting you and leaving you seeing stars. By the spirit, that hurt! WOUNDED (-1 pt)

3 You will not let these aggressive, monsters win! You will not let them desecrate the land, terrorize neighboring herds, and bully the Kawani into submission. WIN (+2pts)

4 You're simply not having a good time of it. What had looked like a smaller adversary, perhaps an easy battle, has turned in to something lasting far longer than you suspected. The speed of his kalona is giving him the advantage. You fight on, but unfortunately, the creatures demon tail winds up pulling a leg out from under you. You stumble, and find its teeth in your throat. DEFEATED (-2 pts)

5 The battle has been rough, and you're not sure you're going to manage to take down the two kalona that have ganged up on you. Thankfully, you are not fighting alone. While kicking back one of the warriors, an alicorn manages to come to your aid, surprising the second by spearing it in the side with her horn. Together, you take down the duo, and leave them too incapacitated to fight. WIN (+3pts)

6 A screech as a raven catches you off guard. The bird scratches at one of your eyes, and gives you a solid few pecks on the face and head causing you to lurch back in surprise. A little flailing gets the creature away, but talk about obnoxious and distracting! WOUNDED (-1pt)

7 You fought well, and were able to deter a few kalona. WIN.(+ 2 pts)

8 You're dodging an attack, and wind up twisting your front ankle. You slip on the grassy ground, but do wind up catching yourself. Unfortunately, the throbbing in your ankle isn't a good sign -- unfortunately, there's nothing to be done about it at this moment. Keep calm and carry on is all you can do. WOUNDED (-1pt)

9 Rearing up, you kick out at the threatening kalona. The creature before you is bloody and looks weak, and though it snarls in frustration, it quickly retreats. WIN (+1pt)

10 The kalona came at you from behind -- first a flurry of claws and wings and feathers from three ravens working in tandom, and then the crunching of bone as the kalona mare rears and strikes down hard with her hooves. DEFEATED (-2pts)

11 It happened like magic. The blinding light of an angeni stuns a
small group of kalona, while you and a cerynei manage to tackle the hesitating and blinded group. You take advantage of their blinking and snarling moment of weakness, driving them back and on the retreat. WIN (+3pts)

12 A sharp crack and a long, tentacle like tail smacks hard against your leg. You feel the sharp sting, but manage to get out of its grasp before it ensnares you. WOUNDED (-1pt)

13 You didn't even see it coming. All you heard was a loud shriek, but before you could jump away, something hard comes crashing down on your back in a flurry of pain and weight. Darkness descends, blissfully sweeping you away into unconsciousness. DEFEATED (-3pts)

14 Giving a loud warcry, you snap at the attacking kalona mare. You manage to bite down hard on her ear, giving a forceful tug. The pain and blood from the bite, on such a sensitive area, is enough to cause the mare to flinch back, giving you time to consider your next move. WIN (+1pt)

15 You will not be defeated, not this time! The kalona stallion ahd been a formidable opponent, vicious, but he underestimated you. Seeing an opening, you manage to head butt the creature's throat, underneath his snapping jaws. It's enough to knock the breath out of the beast, where you take advantage to whirle around and deliver a swift kick to the chest. The force of the blow is enough to send the beats down. WIN (+3pts)

16 Rearing up, you are rammed from the side by the hard horned head of a young kalona mare. Blood is dripping down her face, but she has not given up; it knocks you off balance and down you fall, only to find her stamping and snapping at your exposed sides and stomach. DEFEATED (-2pts)

17 The stallion before you looks young. This might very well be his first battle, and something tells you, he wasn't supposed to be here. He looks more scared than aggressive, though blood stains his jaws. Giving a loud war cry, you deliver a glancing blow, pulling back just enough to scare the young kalona warrior, without doing fatal damage. It's enough to cause the young one to jerk back and skitter away. Maybe that'll teach him a lesson. WIN (+1pt)

18 A group of them descend from the sky. Like lightning they drop down, silent and deadly, having broken through the aerial defenders. The weight of their bodies is bone crushing, while a blow from their cloven hooves is enough to stun, if not kill. One such blow drops you to the ground as you see stars. DEFEATED (-3pts)

19 The battle is heated, but luck is on your side or this warrior doesn't seem to have much heart or spirit. He snaps and snarls, but without the vigor of others. Still, you have a job to do, and take advantage while you can. Tankfully, you have help from above. With his wings partially spread, a wind drops down unexpectedly form above, landing directly on the wing and side of the beast. The force is enough to break it as well as send the wind and kalona down in a tangled, writhing mess. WIN (+3pts)

20 A solid kick to the jaw sends the kalona mare retreating and howling in pain WIN (+2pts)

The Rules

1. This will be first come, first serve to play. I will only take the first twelve who sign up for both sides.
2. You MUST post the proper form with the proper information or else your entry will be skipped.
3. If a person needs to leave, that's just fine.
4. You will have five minutes after I roll to post your soquili's roll. Those who miss the deadline lose and are scratched. This is to keep things fluid.
5. I will announce each rounds winner and keep track of who advances as the game progresses.
6. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker will be had. The tie-breaker will include no bonuses and each owner will simply roll a d10. The larger number wins.
7. No mules allowed.
8. Eight is a lie.
9. So is nine.
10. If someone rolls the improper number of dice, or the improper amount or quantity, or any variation thereof, they will automatically forfeit their roll and be disqualified. No re-rolling, no arguing, no crying about a mistake. People have up to 5 minutes to roll, I think that's long enough for a person to make sure they double check if they're rolling one d20.
11. If someone forgets to post their roll, they will be automatically disqualified. Again. This isn't a speed game (not really) so everyone needs to double check or make sure they have the proper amount posted.
12. If any other issue crops up, it is fully my call to make. There should be no arguing or fighting or PMing me or IMing me about how you don't agree. This is my game and my word will be it. I will try my damndest to be fair, but I want this game to be fun and don't want it to be held up by arguing with people who question my ruling or decision. I can't necessarily please everyone though goodness knows I will try. :3
13. Please, no chatter in the thread outside of our rolls.
