The morning was a rather nice one, the weather fair, with only a few clouds in the sky and though they threaten rain they were far enough off that they shouldn't be much of a bother. It was the perfect weather, with a nice, salty breeze coming in off the ocean. It was the sort of weather that had the fish jumping around happily, kicking up quite the fuss, in large schools not that far off the beach line. Where they were the most active would be, at most, chest deep. There were plenty more then enough for any fisherman to be able to catch and carry home, though how one would wrestle such large and active fish that was the question.
On the edge of the beach was a gathering of sea birds, all of the squawking and dancing about, chasing various shellfish that wandered out of the sea, and otherwise making a huge fuss. Like the various tribes they too were hoping for some of those fish... they just didn't want to do the work, instead more likely that they would wait for someone else to catch the fish first before swooping in.
It would be up to the fisherman to figure out how to not only to get the fish but to keep the fish, a good challenge for any up and comer.

Rayolun stretched in the early morning light and smiled. A beautiful day! And if those storm clouds did end up raining? Well, it'd be a lovely way to end the day! Ever since he'd gotten caught in that big storm and caught the two color shifting Menks, he'd loved being at sea during a storm. Rain was fun too. Something about being completely surrounded by water made him happy.
As he pulled his fishing boat along the beach, he cast a wary eye towards the birds. He'd learned in the past few weeks that they would try to steal his catch if he didn't keep his guard up. But he'd gotten proficient enough with his trident that he could spear one or two as they swooped down to steal his fish. Which gave him something extra to eat that night.

The birds flew or hopped off to either side, leaving a path between their flocks to allow Rayloun to pass with his boat, cawing at him from a distance. The moment he passed though they closed ranks once more, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the prentice would eat them before he fed them or allow them to steal from him. Even if they knew though it was likely that the birds would still try, they were thinking with their stomachs after all.
As Rayloun's boat touched the water a large fish, more impressive then the rest, made it's first jump to catch a bug out of the air before splashing down. The size of the aquatic beast was impressive enough as it was, but there was something else about it that would draw attention, the fact that it seemed to have a glittering bit of jewelry tangled around its tail. It moved quickly so it was hard to tell exactly what it was, a necklace perhaps, but it seemed a strange place for a necklace to be kept. Not to mention how would the fish get a necklace and from where?

Rayolu smiled as the birds open a path then closed behind him. Guess I'll be having bird to go with my fish tonight! He thought not unhappily. Launching his small canoe, he set out into the bay. As he grabbed his oar to row out further, a huge fish caught his eye. It's leap was sudden and noisy and Rayolun wanted to catch it! It's size made it a challenge, plus he could feed himself and his old friend Frezian for several days off of it! As he grinned he saw something sparkle as the fish hit the water at the end of its leap.
Leanign forward he starred intensely at it, what was it? As the fish vanished beneath the surface, he began to smoothly row towards it. Something that dangled and had a line of some sort... but not a fish hook. Jewelry of some sort. Strange, he thought, how'd a fish get a piece of jewelry? Dinner and treasure, sounds good! If it's a pretty piece, maybe I can give it to Lasarra..
When he reached the location where it had gone under, Rayolun put up his oar and grabbed a handful of bait, large squirming worms he'd dug up last night from the jungle, to toss into the water.
He grabbed his trident and waited, ready to spear anything that surfaced.

It would almost seem as though the big fish sensed the intentions of the one in the boat, the way that it jumped only when it was just out of reach of the prentice's trident, circling around as though waiting for him to get closer, then jumped again. The fish was either taunting the young Rayloun, or it was leading him somewhere. Either way the necklace that it was wearing wrapped around it was bait enough to lead some men along... not to mention the meat that it would provide along with that pretty baubble. That or it was just a very unlucky fish because it had two things that the fisherman wanted, which one Rayloun believed was completely up to him.
If he was to go out far enough something else might very well catch his attention: the sight of what looked like a ship that looked as though it had run aground upon a reef... a ship that the big fish seemed to be slowly making its way toward whilst leading the prentice along. Were he to look at the ship he might catch a bit of movement on deck, a survivor, perhaps? It really was impossible to tell for certain at his distance but it might very well be someone in need of help...

Rayolun was grinning, this was a fun fight! the fish was always just out of his reach, but that didn't stop him from trying to spear it! Maybe if I tie a rope to my trident I can trow it then drag it back... He paused for a moment and looked around for the rope that he kept in the boat. As he did so, he spotted a ship sitting on the reefs. He stopped and peered towards it, was that.. movement? Putting his trident away Rayolun grabbed his oar and began to row towards it. Dinner and loot could wait, that was a ship with people on it! He saw that the fish had been headed that direction. Had it been leading him there? Strange, he thought, trained fish? Nah, probably not, he smiled and shook his head while he bent hims back into his pulls, speeding across the ocean towards the ship.

From the looks of the ship it appeared as though it hadn't been sitting there all that long, it was still in good condition, or at least the best condition a boat stuck on a reef could be. The back end of it looked as though it were a little higher up, nearly out of the water in fact, where as the front side which had taken the most damage was slowly sinking deeper as more water entered through the hole in the boat. In time it would likely sink, becoming a new home for the various fish that lived in this area but for the moment it seemed to be balanced precariously on the colorful reef. Not as though such an occurrence was the first time this had happened there were stories of such things happening in the past and new fishermen and sailors were always warned that they had to watch out for such dangers.
Even with all of the caution in the world though there was still the chance of this happening though. Any number of things, from the weather, the currents, or the tides could force a ship to crash in such a manner, what happened after such an occurance was what determined if lives were sparred or not. As Rayloun got closer the movement on the boat would become apparent, it was that of a young man who seemed to be moving around on the deck, seemingly searching for something, all on his own. What happened to the rest of thew crew was yet to be seen but there was at least one survivor and a member of the Wind Tribe if his blond hair was any indication.
The young man paused in his search, looking over the side of the large ship, spotting the smaller boat as it approached and he lifted a hand to wave, "Ahoy!" He called out, smiling a bit, seeming as though he was doing well enough for a man marooned on a crippled ship... though it could just be joy over spotting someone else after so long a wait.

He waved a quick response to the person on the boat before rowing the last distance to the ship. At least he sounds happy, and was looking for something so he wasn't desperate. Ray wasn't sure he could deal with a desperate person, people in general weren't his forte.
As his small boat came along side the wreck, Rayolun gave it a quick go over. It was his first time seeing a wreck, but Frezian had told him that it was a common occurrence around the reefs and had given him quite a lecture on avoiding them and the like. He grabbed a rope from the bottom of his boat tied one end to his boat and tossed the other onto the boat. "Tie that so I can come on board and help you!" He called out.

The blond gave a smile, catching the rope that was tossed to him, and tied it off so that his boat wouldn't be dragged away from the crippled ship by the waves. He gave a smile, "Give me a moment." He said, hurrying off before he returned, pushing a rope ladder over the side. It would help Rayloun up, or help the blond down, though he didn't seem as though he were ready to leave the boat, not yet at least, "Come on up if you like, the ship is a bit wobbly but not too bad... hey, hey... are you a warrior or something? Think you can help me out then?" This was great! A warrior had come to help him out? This was amazing, this was going to help him out greatly!
"Come on, come on! I bet if we work together we will be able to do it!" He said in an excited manner, running off out of sight for a moment, then returned once more, "Ah, sorry about that, sometimes I get a little ahead of myself... I should probably wait until you are on the ship until I run ahead, huh?" He gave another laugh, amused by the fact that he'd almost run off without the help of the warrior that he'd been so lucky as to find him. He really wouldn't be able to get anywhere without help, that much he was certain about, but with this guy's help then perhaps they would be able to do it? At least he sure hoped so.
Smiling again he said, "Don't forget your weapon, we will both need to be prepared if we are gonna take 'him' on." He warned Rayloun, figuring he should let the guy know that they were about to take on something rather tough. He just hoped the other guy didn't just cut the rope tying their boats today and paddle away...

As Rayolun scaled up the rope, he kept a grip on his trident, glad that all his experiences at hunting in the jungle helped him climb and hold stuff at the same time. "I know how to use a trident, though I wouldn't call myself a warrior really. Who is it that you're trying to take on, and why are you trying to take whoever it is on?" So the guy wasn't desperate, but very excited and had a short attention span... Or maybe he's this way because of stress. Rayolun tried to think charitably, but the guy just seemed so random! Wouldn't he want to escape? "Where's the rest of the crew?" Rayolun asked curiously as he stepped onto the tilting boards of the ship's deck.

The blond seemed to consider that comment for a moment before giving a slight shrug, "Well... knowing how to use the trident is better then nothing." He said, giving a smile as he walked over to the opening on the deck that would lead them below, motioning for Rayloun to join him before he knelt down, peeking into the hole, "There is a thief down below! He has possession of a chest that I need to get into but I can't do it alone. Last time I tried... ahh... well, let's say it didn't go all that well." He muttered, shaking his head, then perked up once more, "I was alone then, now I am not, I have you! Surely you can help me out." He sounded pretty certain about that.
"From here you can half see the chest I need to get into, it's slid forward toward the hole in the front of the boat, it's half submerged, and I am afraid if I don't get to it soon that it's going to be lost." His voice wavered for a moment, his tone showing a moment of uncertainty before he forced such emotions aside. No, no, he wouldn't think about that! He would stay positive, after all what were the odds that someone would find him, come aboard, and aid him in this endeavor? He would get to that chest!
When he was asked about the rest of the crew he lifted his gaze from staring longingly at the out of reach chest before he shook his head, "Gone. Other than knowing that they aren't on board anymore I can't say exactly where they are now. Would have been a lot easier to do this if they had stuck around but... well, not everyone was as determined as I am I suppose. All I know is I went to tussle with that monster down below, got in a tussle, and when I came to again I was the only one left." He made a bit of a face at the thought of them leaving him alone here, what a pain. He wasn't leaving though, not yet.

A thief who was a monster... that's what it sounded like to Rayolun. Perhaps that big fish I saw with the treasure on it's tail? He sighed at this guy's words. "You choose to stay here and try to get treasure instead of leaving with the others and living? Sometimes I don't understand people, I really don't." He muttered as he swung himself down through the hole. "All you need is the chest, right? Is it heavy or can I get it out quickly by myself?" He called back as he landed and peered around him, keeping an eye out for this thief or monster that the odd stranded fellow had mentioned. He kept his trident at ready; while he had only had the tournament as practice on using it against non creatures, he did feel confident he could spear what ever came at him. Rayolun had a feeling that he needed to get the chest if he wanted to get this guy back to land. What type of fool stayed on a sinking ship for a chest? You could always replace treasure, unlike lives!

The blond's cheeks colored a bit as he glanced over at the one who'd come here to help him, "Ahhh... well... kinda. Not all of the treasure that I am after, though there was a bit of it on board at one point, there is just something very specific that I need to get back." He said, squirming in a place, his flush getting worse, as he looked toward the chest once more. It was an important thing, he had to get that chest back, had to get into it, and had to retrieve what was inside. Once he did he felt as though everything would be so much better and would make him feel so much more relieved then he had been in some time.
Watching as the other man jumped down into the hole he couldn't help but to stare, looking quite impressed with how eager he was to hop down there without even knowing what it was that he was going up against. He probably shouldn't leave him alone in this battle he thought to himself before he slipped down the stairs after him, taking it slowly because otherwise they were rather creaky, "Eh? Heavy... I don't think it was too heavy. The water may very well have logged it down some, made it heavier, not to mention that the thief is still down here." He advised his helpful, would-be rescuer in a whispering tone of voice. As he came to the last step he squatted down, looking around, trying to spot where the beastly thief was. He wanted that chest back, damn it! There was just the problem of getting it back without having to fight for it again... ah hells, he was back, wasn't it?
"Pst! Hey! Look out!" He called out as the water near to the chest started to churn for a moment before some long tentacles burst forth from the water, reaching out toward Rayloun, likely because he was closer.

So whatever it was, was important. Maybe it's a family keepsake or something? Rayolun could and did abandon items all the time. No sense in holding onto something that could weigh one down when in a situation so this behavior was very foreign to him. But since he was down here might as well go grab the thing. Hope the water hasn't made it top heavy! As he waded through the water towards the chest he heard the blond boy call out. His eyes narrowed as he saw tentacles burst from around the chest and lash towards him. Stepping quickly to one side to dodge one, he slashed downwards with his trident at the nearest tentacle to see if he could cut off the wriggling thing.

The tentacle that Rayloun struck with his trident went still for a moment before all of them started to writhe around in obvious pain before they jerked back into the water. Silence reigned for a long, agonizing moment and the blond sailor called out, "Be careful! You don't want those things grabbing you, it will drag you into the water and it will be all over then!" His voice was hushed, his eyes flickering from side to side across the expanse of salty water, trying to figure out when the creature would attack next. It wasn't so much 'if' the creature would again as much as it was 'when', the wriggling thing wouldn't be giving up, especially now that Rayloun had injured it. To say that the beast had issues when it came to holding a grudge was an understatement.
After a time the water churned once more and more tentacles, minus the injured one, lashed forward at Rayloun once more, trying to entangle him and his weapon. The creature wasn't going to give up the chest so easily it would seem, it was going to battle for anything in the submerging area of the boat, seemingly having taken the area as its territory. Rayloun and the sailor were invaders, ones that had to be dealt with, and the sea creature seemed more then eager to do just that.
