FINALLY! School was over! Though he imagined kids liked to think that teacher loved watching them suffer though boring classes, it was quite the contrary! Classes should be interesting, engaging, and FUN for everyone, including the teacher! Unfortunately, as he wasn't quite a teacher yet, he couldn't make that many attempts to change what was going on in this classroom. How was a music class supposed to be exciting when the music teacher didn't even let the kids mess with the instruments! No wonder they were looking forward to his retirement! It was torture watching these poor elementary students get lectures on the 'history' of music.. If he was falling asleep, he couldn't help but feel for the kids who were already out like a light.

Then as soon as the bell rang for dismissal, the old fart of a teacher was out of the room faster than any of the other kids, leaving Ulane behind to grade a bunch of papers on identifying musical notes. Which wasn't a problem, no, none at all. But it wasn't just this class.. Every music class.. From every grade was giving different quizzes today. And the grades were due by morning. Oh, sure it wasn't a problem, no, none at all. It's not like he had homework to do or anything. What could he do but stay here and do what he's told? He was being graded too.

While doing what he had to, he left the door open. The music room was free for anyone to use after school, as long as there was a teacher here. Besides, if someone were to come and visit him, it would be alot more entertaining besides, just grading an infinite amount of work.

Quila narrowed her eyes at the open door to the music room and the man inside, folding her arms stubbornly as she debated what to do.

Teachers. Not her favorite people in the world right now, especially with Ms. McGilly and Mom having an argument about her capacity to be 'lady like'. She had to give her mother points, she'd told Quila she could go and find something to do while they duked it out, and, well, her Mom was at least kind of on her side. She knew "Mama Fisher" would have liked her to be more like McGilly's idea of a lady, quiet, demure, and sweet, and not being 'shameful' and 'disrespectful' by telling that Jack-ash (Hah. Jack ash. Nice one.) Billy to shut his cake hole and stop trying to throw things down Alice's button down shirt just because he thought that the universe gave her big boobs for his stupid stinky BOY entertainment..
Billy was a douche. She could say douche right? Douche was a thing. A cross thing, like Billy, but a thing.

Granted Billy was kind of in trouble too and her mom and Alice's mom were working on that, but McGilly was still a stupid fish-person and... and stuff. McGilly needed to retire like the music teacher. Not that she was sure this guy would be any better, and she really looked forward to graduating.

...Oh Geegaws she was so flipping bored though. And McGilly would probably loose her temper which would make it harder for her to argue with Mom if she went in and played an instrument.

...Could you do a drum solo on an Xylophone?

...The world had to know.

She still kept her eyes narrowed and challenging, rapping on the door with her knuckle to let the teacher know she was there before shouldering in and heading toward the Xylophone. Dingadingdong time for a Quilla Song.

Ulane couldn't quite figure out what he thought of the little one who came into the music room. He had seen her standing in the doorway, and offered her a smile, but she then vanished from his sight again. He wasn't intimidating, was he? Pfft, not at all! If anything, he probably came off as one of those kids that bigger kids used to beat up in primary school. Not that that ever had happened to him. Defending himself and other kids was normally what went down. But he couldn't quite talk about that, it would probably be considered a 'bad influence'.

When the girl came into the room, he watched her head straight over towards the Xylophone, curious as to what she would do. The mallets that went with them were simply tucked away infront of them, so it wouldn't be too hard to find. He had yet to speak though, not wanting to make the girl suddenly change her mind about what she wanted to do. Who knows, maybe she could have been a secret Beethoven. Or maybe she'd just make some noise. Nothing, to him, sounded terrible though!

The teenaged girl shot him a glance out of narrowed blue eyes as she picked out the Xylophone mallets and made her way around to the stool, waiting for him to do something on her list of anticipated adult things.

Go ahead, she dared you. Do something condescending and cute. He had that dippy smile that suggested he didn't see kids as 'people' until they hit 20. She couldn't stand people like that, kids weren't magically a second species that you played with like a good little pet that happened to talk and go through adorable 'phases' you had to paper train them out of...

...Well... take this one dippy.

She side eyed him a little and started to tap out a song, well... it was kind of more like someone unleashed the spawn of a hard rock drum solo on an Xylophone.

Now, there definitely was a difference between sounding terrible, and sounding loud. Certainly, the girl's music was plenty loud, but it didn't sound far off to how most of the kids played them. After all, all instruments were about experimenting with. How else were you to find out what you liked, and what made you want to rip your ears off.

Ulane figured this girl was one with a bit of an attitude. Her eyes just seemed to say it, in his mind. But he let her go on, looking back down at the papers on the desk, grading a few more until the girl decided to stop. He calmly leaned forward, resting his chin on his palms, propped up by his elbows.

"You know, I think that might have sounded better on an actual drum kit. Did you want to try playing on one?"

Given Ulane's limited experience with Quila, his judgement that she 'might' have an attitude was an easily understandable understatement. It was easier to tell now in the time since she'd taken a set of shears to her long silver curls, the pixie cut seemed to draw particular attention to the stubborn set of her jaw, the fire in her eyes.

And right now you could toast s'mores on that fire.

"Golly gee wilikers Mr. Paloveer! A for REALS drumset?"

The hive Queen's acid blood was less caustic than the sarcasm Quila managed in nine words.

"...I know where the drums are Mr. Paloveer." She added a second later, the false cheer removed with a surgical strike as she went back to experimenting on the Xylophone. This time it might have been some sort of bastardized snippet of classical, but since it had been crossed with something that might have been the jarring cords of a horror movie... on a Xylophone... it was sort of hard to tell. It was even harder to tell if she were combining them on purpose or if it were a happy accident. ((Between reader and audience, it was entirely accidental. Quila made up for in enthusiasm what she lacked in musical skill.))

"No, kiddo, a for FAKE drumset. It's made of chocolate cookies and licorice! Unfortunately, we DID just run out of those when the bell sounded, so I'm glad you know where the real drums are at." His words weren't meant to come off as offensive, sarcasm, just a simple return of how she spoke to him. Little could be done to wipe away the tired, yet genuine smile that the teacher wore. Atleast her she wasn't shouting. If that were the case, then there would have to be a consequence in kind. After all, this was a music class room, not a murder scene.

"Tell me, do you play any instruments? Well, of course you do, you're playing one now, but one that you might wish to focus on? Or is it more of a passive, "when it's there infront of me, I'll mess with it, but any other time, I'm not actively seeking it out" activity?" What was the harm in gently nudging more students towards the more musical path? With both sweet and gentle harmonies to ear-splitting and shrill dissonances, there was always an opportunity to find something that suited every personality.

Quila did something a bit odd, pantomiming opening an invisible book, and making an lone check mark in it with a smirk, and putting it away again.

Paloveer may not have intended it that way, but he's just briefly lost his cool, and she counted that as a victory against someone who, she felt, needed a reminder that she was capable of taking him on in verbal sparring. That being 'child' did not mean being 'less' somehow.

"I'm just waiting for my mom." She answered. "So just playing."

With his eyes cast down on the papers again, Ulane went ahead and gave a check mark of his own, but perhaps on a bit more on the positive side. He loved giving big fat check marks when the kids got right answers, and his green pen was his favorite to use. The idea that the color red should be associated with any mistakes you made disturbed Ulane, opting for a gentle green color and kinder words.

"Ah, All right then. If you're ever interested in becoming more seriously involved with music, let me know. I'm sure we can figure out a way to let you take something home with you. Or even arrange some time to just let you test out a bunch. An instrument can be the difference between constantly being forced to stay after school, or choosing to rock out instead."

"...Wow you have absolutely no idea why I'm here, or what they're taking about and that is your go to?"

Quila's hackles, metaphorically, were up at once. "WOW I mean how could I have been so WRONG. You've turned my life around! Next time some DOUCHENOZZLE of a boy decides that the universe gave a girl in our class Big honking mamary glands for his entertainment, I'll just remember that BOYS WILL BE BOYS and needle point the musical bars for a guitar solo like a GOOD GIRL, because GOOD GIRLS don't get into trouble. We do NICE things like sit QUIETLY or "ROCK OUT" on command!"

Ulane might have preferred green but Quila was seeing red, since he'd managed to jam his thumb firmly onto a hot button with her, one that involved making assumptions about why she was here.

She hefted the Xylophone hammer like she was planning, for a moment, to hurl it at him, then jammed it, and then it's twin, back into the pouches.

"You and McGilly! You're both THE FREAKIN' SAME."

Admittedly her fuse had been pretty short since she'd come in here, and she'd maybe been unconsciously looking for something to spark it off, Ulaine just happened to be there when the fuse burned down to the powder.

Though a glance was spared at Quila for her loudness and anger, Ulane continued to grade papers, neatly stacking them up and giving them a little tap to make sure they were straight. Let her vent, let her keep talking about the way she just assumed the way the world works, it seemed to be a popular thing to do about these parts. After she was done firing off words that seemed to be far too unpleasant for any gender, Ulane placed the folder of graded papers into the desk, locking it with a key so that they were secure until the next time the real teacher were to arrive in the school. A few, quiet moments passed from him as he gazed down at the peculiarities that could be found on the floor beneath his feet, organizing his thoughts on the rather irritated child before him, until he gazed back up at her, sitting back in his chair fully, arms crossed behind his head causally.

"You're so fast to assume people's thoughts about you, even if the situation seems to call for it, huh? For all I could have honestly known, you could have been here because you chopped off Alice's ponytail. The way you convey yourself seems to show that you would do that as well, just angry for a reason that I wasn't told about In the end, It's not about whether or not you should be a 'good girl', as you call it, or should listen to me or behave like a well tempered person in general should. Common courtesy is a standard that should be applied to everyone." Ulane's own view on himself seemed to better suit the 'quiet and gentle' soul, and he had no desire to further find himself in conflict with the young one before him.

"You come in here and play music. That is what the room is for, and the one comment I made that was directly related to music, you go on and think "Oh, Mr. Paloveer is just looking down on me, I should raise my voice and be angry at him because he's doing his job in encouraging others in the practice of music as a release". Yes, Ms.McGilly are the same in the sense that we want what's best for our students, even if some are, as you put it, 'douchenozzle's' or even little judgmental scapegraces. If that means encouraging another student to fight back in different methods when their integrity is being challenged, or reprimanding those who put others in compromising situations, then that is part of our job." As accusatory as his statements were, his voice neither rose nor fell, remaining a consistent tone as he spoke, his eyes remaining fixated on Qiula's the entire time.

"Oh CRAM it, Ink pusher." She snorted. "You think you're winning this fight, but you're the one who said "OOh, if you play MUSIC, you'll get in TROUBLE less, which sort of implies I did, and do, things that are wrong. Pot. Kettle. Bng. HONKING. Kettle."

Was he literally so stupid that he didn't see how condescending he'd been? He had to be. There was something in those adults that made them oblivious to their own personal contradictions as they reached around and patted themselves firmly on the back.

"Think what you like, kiddo. If you'd like to keep talking, go right on ahead. Sometimes ranting off can lead to a dampened wick as well. To win is to not lose your temper or become upset, in my opinion. If that's the case, perhaps you lost as soon as you came through the door." His ever persistent smile had yet to fade, still as considerate as it had started.

"You're a dampened wick." She rolled her eyes, snorting in amusement at a rather dirtier thought on the phrase before she heard the sound of a familiar voice, calling her name from down the hall way.

"Oh thank Jeebus." She sighed in relief. "COMING MOM!"

This guy probably wouldn't even get her amazing Simpsons reference. Adults were so... adult.

Thank goodness that little girl was gone! Ulane, himself, let out a little sigh, smiling to himself as he stood once she had left, stretching and letting all the kinks go loose in his back. She wasn't terribly unpleasant, no, but it definitely seemed like she had some sort of unsolvable chip on her shoulder. But no matters, it wasn't as if she would allow some 'adult' help him.

With her out of his music room, the teacher was able to head out himself, since he could finally lock it up. Goodness gracious was the man tired!
