Why was he here? Masochism. It was always masochism.
Sailor Orpheus, the undeniably uncharming a*****e who had just destroyed his relationship with Zia with paranoia and accusations found himself on a stroll by the only place he knew he could find her. He didn't know where she lived now that they weren't together but he knew her secrets. Leading a double life made things hard but when he seen Zia holding her head on her desk in the lab he couldn't help but smirk.
She's still crying over me, huh? He thought.
It was no wonder though! He was amazing! He didn't feel amazing though. Since Zia had been gone, he felt out of his head and he couldn't take it. His small apartment suddenly felt huge without her and the dog there to take up space. Simply sitting at his desk, he longed for the annoying disturbances and cries from her for him to put down the toys and come play with her instead.
He felt like he was a mess but it was not something he'd ever share with her. He wouldn't be that guy. He wouldn't be the one in the relationship that couldn't live without the other. He had to keep up appearances both as Pascal Lalande and Sailor Orpheus but it was hard when his head spun so much. He felt like there was energy buzzing all around him, fluttering about calling out to him.
He was stronger now.
Remarque had made a mistake doing what he did.
He would prove it with the power that surged through him constantly now.
Keeping up appearances helped him out in this situation though. He had always been that creeper so why stop now? He simply watched Zia, his eyes falling longingly over her lilac locks with desire. Did she use the same shampoo? Did it smell the same? He had questions but did he want the answers? How beautiful were her eyes filled with tears? How much would it hurt him to look and see? Silence became him and he watched her like he hadn't seen her in years.

Zia had papers scattered all across her desk, mostly logs pertaining to the Black Kingdom royal families in some attempt to find some clarity. But either there was nothing to find or Zirconia's memory was shoddier than she let on, because nothing came.
She was still vaguely hungover from the previous night, and the hopelessness was still a fresh wound. So at some point she just put her head down and covered it with her arms.
There were tears occasionally, and maybe she had even started to doze off, but eventually some strange sense of a presence added this creeping feeling she was being watched and she jumped up and spun in her chair to see Orpheus.
"Holy s**t," She gasped and quickly sniffled, trying to rub the hint of tears in the corners of her eyes.
"Jesus, you scared the ******** out of me. What are you doing here?"

Orpheus might have smiled a bit when she gasped with a curse. For all the masochism he was put though, it was sometimes nice to be on the other side of the grass. However, the attempt she made to rub the tears out of the corners of her eyes stung at his heart and the smile immediately disappeared and became replaced with a frown. Okay, tears were bad.
No.
Tears were horrible.
"I was just the neighbourhood and decided to drop by, why else?" That was an answer right out of the book.
"Why are you sitting here crying?"
Masochism came back in full force. ********>

"Oh, um..." Zia sniffled again, trying to hide the fact she had managed to break down and cry for the eighty bajillionth time this week, and then kind of slumped in her chair.
"I dunno," She mumbled. "I had a rough night last night, and I just--... I don't know."
Attempting to talk about it was not helping the mission to keep from crying. Her stomach was nauseous, her head was pounding, her face was tinged with a red flush and she all around felt like s**t.
"I just feel like giving up," She finally managed to get out, though the fact she was on the brink of tears again was evident by the catch in her voice. "There's no point to anything, everything just turns to crap, it'll never be okay..."
She paused and ground her teeth for a moment.
"It's never going to be okay."

Orpheus watched her intently as she seemed to struggle to find the right words. As her body slumped into her chair, his back pressed against a nearby wall rather uncomfortably. It was sort of awkward being in the same room as her when all he wanted to do was scream and inappropriately have sex with her on that desk. Maybe at the same time. He had to get past this though because Orpheus still had things he needed from her.
She looked like s**t though, like she had flood a river with her tears. Her explanation brought a revelation to his face. Had he really done that bad of a number on her? He couldn't help but feel a little happy about it after all the grief she'd put him through as a cheating whore. He wasn't sure he wanted her to just give up on everything because they were over. It was nice to think that he meant so much to her that she couldn't live without him and that it would never be okay with him out of the picture but he felt a little bad.
No, he shouldn't feel bad. She brought this on herself! Orpheus sighed, her arms raising to rub his temples. He wished his emotions were just that simple. He didn't think she should find a new man but being miserable forever seemed a little steep. Maybe after a year or two she could move on and things could be okay. It wouldn't be forever.
"Don't say that," he said in a real terrible attempt at being empathetic. "Give it time."

"Time?" Zia choked out in a sob and kicked the desk leg in frustration. "What's time going to do? The more time goes on, the weaker I am and the stronger they get. Ares' captain Remarque has already taken her place as a court prince, in time there might be more royal forces in their army."
She threw a book sitting on the desk at the wall and slammed her head back down and covered it like she had been when he first walked in.
"What the hell is time going to help? They always win regardless."

Orpheus probably wasn't listening as well as he should be. He expected to hear her cry about her boyfriend so after her lips stopped moving he simply nodded his head, watching the book fly across the room and her head hit the desk. Well, maybe that was the appropriate response. However, after a couple seconds passed and the words finally soaked into his otherwise preoccupied skull there was the sound of his fist hitting the wall behind him.
"WHAT?"
Wait wait wait.
"WHAT?!"
His voice cracked, and his emotions stirred ridiculously. There was suddenly two emotional wrecks in the room, and one was slowly sliding down the wall waiting for his a** to hit the floor. How could this happen? Why would this happen? What did the world have against him? After all the s**t Remarque put him through, after all the s**t Ares had put him through? Why did they reward them? Why did he become a prince when he'd finally got the Queen off his back?
"He said he didn't... I didn't... Why... I don't... how could this have happened?"
Any amount of sense that might have been applied here was gone as Orpheus' hands made friends with his knees.
They were doomed.
He was especially doomed.
Eternal senshi was one thing to fight but now he had to deal with that? He may as well just rot right here in this spot.

"He's her replacement, that's all," Zia managed out from her covered face. "So it's like she never left. There's no point in trying. There's no hope."
She did her best to repress the wailing whimper that managed to make it's way out of her throat. "There never really was."
She was silent for a long moment. She wished she could say she was thinking about things, that wheels were turning and plans were being hatched. But she wasn't. Her mind was blank and her heart was broken and all she could do was mumble something about her existence being pointless under her breath.
"Can you... just go? Please," She finally whispered. "I don't want to patrol tonight."
Or ever, really.

It was like someone kept kicking him in the crotch.
Over.
And over.
And over again as Zia continued to speak.
What was the point? They were doomed, the world was ending and whether he died in here or out there it didn't seem to matter in the end. She might be a cheating whore but dying with her here wouldn't be too bad, would it? Amber eyes peeked through his legs as he looked up at Zia, pondering things that had happened. He couldn't erase the past but it didn't seem like there was going to be much of a future here.
"There is definitely no point in patrolling," he said with a sigh. "We should just ******** one more time before the end worlds."

She wasn't leaving. And honestly, Zia didn't mind that too much, as long as he wasn't expecting her to do anything productive. If he wanted to sit there and cry for a while, she really didn't mind having someone else in the room.
Until he offered his solution and she lifted her head up to scowl at him. Well, a combination of that and looking confused.
And then finally she grabbed another book off the desk and threw it at his head. "That's only happened before in your dreams, you delusional creep."

The book flew right at his face but instead of simply letting it hit him in the face like his feeling suggested he do, his hands flew up and caught it right before it hit him square in the nose. He just held it up there, staring at the cover as if some answer would creep out of it and dawn on him. It didn't and with a sigh he lowered the book to the floor as his eyes then stared at Zia.
"Oh," was all he said as a sad realization sort of hit him. "Right."

Zia scowled at him with her teary eyes for a long second before her shoulders dropped and she rested her head back on the desk.
"I'm sorry, it's not your fault, I'm just not in the mood for that kind of stuff," She muttered. "I broke up with my boyfriend on top of all this, and I know that sounds stupid and shallow in comparison to the ******** world being over but it's just one more kick in the gut to the pile so I am just... not up for any jokes like that."
Oh god, please be jokes.

It was kind of like twisting the knife around a wound and Orpheus found himself regretting his choice in coming here. He wanted to get up and leave but his body was against him so instead of getting up he did the opposite and sunk down against the floor in hopes he would melt into it.
"Can't blame a guy for trying, right?" He said, trying to laugh it off but his laugh immediately died off.

Zia's brief moment of pity seemed to just make things worse. Or maybe it was because she wasn't looking at him so hard. Either way, he seemed just as broken as she was and that was sad.
Zia didn't like to see broken people, especially if they reminded her of herself.
"I know it's a stupid question, but my social conditioning is demanding I ask if you're okay," She said with a weak chuckle as she walked over and sat down on the floor next to him.
She lightly bumped her shoulder against his and managed to force one corner of her mouth into some weak semblance of a thing trying to be a smile. "Maybe things are not going to be so horrible forever?"
He looked like he needed a hug. They both needed a hug. So she hugged him.

A hug.
It was such a simple gesture but soon Orpheus found his arms wrapping around Zia in an almost protective manner. For a brief moment in time as his arms squeezed around her, it felt like everything was right again. For a second, it seemed that that nothing had changed between them. However, no matter how alluring the scent of her hair was and how at ease he felt in her arms, he couldn't allow things to stay like that.
"You change your mind huh? I can't say I'm surprised," he whispered softly into her ear as his hands reached her a** with a squeeze.
This had always been how he coped.
