"Damn piece of bloody useless..."
The loud dong of metal on metal drowned out the rest of the sentence. Isambard tossed the wrench onto the grass and took a step back, hands on his hips in a stance of frustration. He took a deep breath and pushed the sleeves of his shirt back up his arms.

He was on the edge of the town that stood close to the Pantheon. It had undergone a lot of change since he had started his little mission to have it rebuilt. The plans were coming along nicely, there were houses now and a few low rise apartment blocks already. It all centred around a central square that, when finished would house municiple buildings, shops and services. It was not enough to build people homes, they needed infrastructure, many were from advanced civilisations and that meant more than candles and fountains.

One of the engineers had pointed him in the direction of an old school. It was beyond repair and would be torn down and replaced but it had a generator, something he hoped they might be able to use to generate some power. Or would have been able to use if it wasn't a complete pile of rubbish. They had managed to get it out of the building and to its current resting place, though it was badly rusted and decayed.

Isambard gave it a nice, hard kick, causing one side to crumble to the grass. Looked like it was back to the drawing board. perhaps they could construct a wind turbine, solar pannels perhaps? Niether of them completely effective really.

Ekita was bored, so had been out on a salvage run- looking for things that seemed like they could be fixed. She and Renkah had come back from Axant a few days ago, her loose ends had been tied up. Not so much to think or wonder about left her far more idle than she cared to be. She needed something to keep herself busy. And so here she was, on her way back from picking useful things out of the ruins. She brought her motorcycle to a stop at the sound of a voice, something she would not have noticed normally but the odd contrast against the relative quiet out here made it stand out.

Other side of that building, I think.

So she set off again slowly, heading around the building. It seemed she had not been hearing things, there was someone there. Someone having a rather hard time with a generator from the looks of it. "Problems?"

The purr of a motor, now that was a satisfying sound. So often there was nothing but silence and birdsong. Isambard turned as it came to a stop beside him and smirked a little.
"You could say that." He replied, looking at the lost cause before him. "I was hoping to salvage this generator but it appears to be a lost cause, rusted and decayed beyond the point of use." he ran a dirty hand through the messy hair he had inherited from his host. "On to plan B."

His assessment seemed to be correct from what she could tell from here. She figured it was probably an older generator too, it looked like the old tech she studied for the sake of history back home. "Yeah, looks like you would have to replace so much you might as well build a whole new one." Entirely new would work better than half patched in this case anyway. It would just take time to get the right metals and mold or weld it into the correct shapes.

"Plan B?" Admittedly she was curious.

Shen was surprisingly quiet for the moment, trying to deduce just who this was. It was a god, yes, that much was obvious enough, but he was not sure which one.

Isambard nodded in agreement, it was pretty much a lost cause, old tech. They would be better off building a new one from scratch but materials were scarce.
"Yes, alternative sources of energy. Turbines, hydro, I wonder if there are geo-thermal prospects around here." He looked around at the landscape, probably not, it didn't seem particularly volcanic. He glanced back at the woman and the bike. "You seem to know a thing or two about machinery." he observed.

"I spent most of my life around machines, so I spent a lot of time taking this apart to see how they work and putting them back together. Most of the actual work I've done is dealing with electrical equipment, but given time I could probably figure out some of the others." She gave the motorcycle a fond pat. "I even managed to get this thing running, took some doing though." The fuel had been the biggest issue hurdle there and had required some dealing with a chemist.

Isambard wandered over to the machine and gave it an appraising look over. It was a fine machine. Gehenna had put the universe back so far that it was rare to see anything mechanical. He had seen makeshift generators here and there, contraptions to distribute water and of course the fires of the forge, but none of the beasts that heralded the civilised world.
"Fine work pet." he said, looking up at her, he could feel the divine somewhere there, but she was no god. So a host then. "I should introduce myself I suppose. I'm Isambard, Deus Ex Machina, god of Industry."

It wasn't anything like her bike back on Axant, but it still wasn't bad. The other would not have been able to run here before long anyway, like everything else on her homeworld it was purely electric. "Thank you." She had to grit her teeth afterward to keep her dragon's growling from becoming audible. This Isambard had not meant anything by what he said, but Shen was a very possessive creature to put it lightly.

Very possessive indeed."Shen Lung, Shogun of Storms..." Yes, a dragon king. "...and this is Ekita." He noted the other's name and domain for later.

Isambard looked up as a different voice spoke, the voice of a god a rather superior sounding god, that usually meant one thing. His thought was confirmed as he fully introduced himself. Great, what was it with the bloody dragon kings, they seemed to be all over the place.
"It's a pleasure to meet you my Lord, and you Ekita. It is refreshing to run into someone with an interest in machinery and technology. Many seem to be content with living in the dark ages."

It was probably a good thing Isambard did not voice that thought aloud, because Shen held a very different opinion on the matter and he was never one to hold back about things that concerned his brothers or himself. "Likewise." He was perfectly capable of being cordial, however, and would continue to do so unless he was given a reason to be otherwise.

"It seems strange to me too. But sometimes when it is all you have, then it is better than nothing at all." Had she come here from Axant any other way then she might have scoffed at the notion like Industry did, at least in the beginning. Things were a little different now however, she had gotten used to this place.

"Perhaps." Isambard replied, though really he had proved they could have more, all it too was a little organisation. Someone to spur them on to victory. Progress.
"So, what energy do you think would be easiest to harness? Wind, Sun, there is coast near here so waves perhaps?" he was genuinely interested in her opinion, he liked the enginuity of mortals, like all gods he would be nothing without their imagination.

"Sun, perhaps, since its patterns are a bit more predictable." At least for now. She got the impression it would be raining for quite a while once Shen was strong enough to make it do so because that was the kind of b*****d he was. The two of them still did not always see eye to eye on things, but at least in this case she could understand the want to do something like that. "Though, I am not sure how you would go about it?" Most of her experience had been dealing with giant lightning rods.

"If you want we can look around for any other salvageable machinery while we talk?" Perhaps, if they were lucky, there would be another generator that was in better shape.

"Yes, me neither." Isambard replied. "Though I am certain there will be someone here, among the melting pot that exists within and outside the pantheon who knows. Maybe I'll even go into the library I've heard so much about and read up on it." Not something he would enjoy, but if it saved time. He gave a nod at her suggestion, that would be a good idea. "Do you know of a good place to hunt?"

"I actually enjoy reading, though I only do so occasionally for learning purposes." Reading was much more effective as a temper diffuser the less one had to think about what they were reading. "If I want to learn about something usually I just take it a apart and put it back together." Which unfortunately was not an option in this case.

"I have a few favorite spots, plus some that I haven't really had much of a look around yet." She slid up on the seat of her bike. "Climb on behind me and perhaps we'll get lucky and find something worth using."

"Me too." Isambard was certainly a hands on god. Not so much a foreman as a workman, he liked to get his hands dirty, to see how things worked. He liked to investigate problems, solve them hated to be stagnant. Which was why he was there, trying to sort out the generator.
He watched her climb onto to bike and smiled. He hadn't been on such a machine, possibly even in the time before. But he did like a challenge so he climbed on behind her and and held on firmly, there was no way he was damaging his mortal body now he had it.
