Konstantin was comfortable with the outdoors, significantly more than he was with people. The elements were consistent. Ever since the clouds had lifted, the island was little more than blue skies and sunshine, with the occasional torrent of rain to disrupt the perpetually tropical weather. Plants did not require his attention or conversation about idle topics. Wild animals held no interest in his day to day life. Rocks did not trouble him for his thoughts.

Even with the constant overture of drama from Kostya's phone, he was still more at peace with this island than he had ever been with a city. He found that he walked certain paths in a familiar circuit: room, cafeteria, labs, training fields, jungle, repeat in reverse order, repeat ad nauseam.

He was in the middle of the circuit as he walked through the training fields, fingers idly brushing over Syntax's tamogatchi-style buttons, when he encountered another hunter. A Sun, given the sigil emblazoned upon his coat, and one that was working on some sort of combat maneuver.

"Privyet," he said, with a wave, doing his best to appear casual. it was so hard to gauge the personalities of the hunters. He could be friendly, he could be hostile, he could be both. It was best to play nice, to see what the playing field was.

Yes. Some sort of combat maneuver. That is what Konstatin was totally witnessing when he had found the still-pretty-new Sun hunter. Though, to be fair, Milo had arrived with the intent to practice. Because it was what he was meant to do being a member of that particular division, to hone his skills and not be a rusty link in the front lines chain. The recent tournament and the division meeting with the pumpkin had been a pretty good indication he was still green, even with his high opinion of his own performance (he still thought he had done awesome). But he was really unpracticed and still unfamiliar of the lengths that the naginata would really touch. This wasn't like the shows he adored where the heroes knew immediately what to do when they got their weapons.

But, those shows were still good inspirational tools and Milo had decided to try out some of the moves he could remember watching; mostly from DaiRanger, a little of Kamen Rider W, Megaranger, and the few other series that had pole arms in them. Weren't perfect, but that was what practice was for. And might have been the more ideal time for the other Hunter to show up. No, at this particular moment on this sunny day in the practice fields, Konstantin stumbled upon what it had all dissolved into. Posing time.

Milo's back had been turned towards the other hunter at first, facing the training dummies (having done nothing to them at all, mind you) before he spun in his heel in a dramatic fashion and with a little flail, spun Koume downward in a finishing pose. He imagined explosions going off behind him, you know.. Power Ranger type when the monster was defeated. He blinked, a little startled really since he had been alone for this long stretch of time when he noticed the other guy. "Yet, what?" So did not catch all of that, was that another language or some slang he didn't know? Well, he was waving, so Milo responded with his own as he straightened himself up. "Yo! Howzit?"

Konstantin blinked at the display before him, blinking once impassively at the flashy movements. He moved nicely, even if he was...not entirely sure what the intent of such movements were.

Then again, his own combat experience was limited, especially considering that his weapon was ranged.

"Oh, sorry. Privyet. Is means hello in Russian." He cocked his head. "Howzit? As like...Artillery?" he was clearly imagining a howitzer. "Sometimes am forgetting," he admitted, a note of sheepishness creeping into his voice.

He was, however, curious about other types of weapons. He had no knowledge of them beyond his own, and a long, elegant sword was significantly different than his futuristic-arm gun.

"Is easy to use?" he asked, curious, edging closer.

It was probably for the best that Konstantin didn't try to figure out the intentions of Milo's displays of nerdiness. But, well, if he really wanted to.

Milo was about to attempt to lean against Koume as the butt of the staff hit the ground, but remembering the short stature of the weapon compared to his own height, he opted instead of widening his stance and flicking her up to rest her against a shoulder. "Aa, Russian?" Was this the guy that that America chick had made comments to on twitter? Hm. Interesting. He didn't ask about it. But, did explain the accent, "Kind of like Szczeosny?" It should be noted, that Milo never did learn where Lucky was from, please don't hate him. He pressed on though, "Aa, Howzit, I guess is just hello where I'm from. The formal way is Aloha ~" His free hand was held up, palm open and swept across in a grand little gesture of the word.

At the mention of the naginata, Milo's head turned a little to spy a glance at the blade at the tip, just a little past his head before returning to the other guy before him. He shrugged a little and pulled her off to hold her out in front of him, "oh yeah, totally getting easier," Milo confessed with a chuckle, "she's not too bad, despite the nagging voice that came along with." Which earned him a scoff from said tengu. "Just gotta practice, ya know?" And to add to the display, he spun her around once before she was returned to where she rested previously.

"What about you?" Okay, maybe Milo was a little curious as well and he gave Konstantin a look that showed it. Maybe a little, showed you mine, now show me yours type dealio. "Get anything cool? So far, I've seen a bunch of people with swords and stuff." Few bows, hammer.... who knows what that thing Rep had. An axe?

"Da, am being Russian--" His normally bland face shifted into something darker. "No. Am looking like a Polak? No. Szczeosny from Poland. Very different. Also very rude, him."

The rage smoothed out, a little, simmering down to terse lips and a scrunched nose. "Ahl-oh-ha?" He offered, doing a poor imitation of the movement. "Other languages, very hard. English second."

At the mentioning of practise, Konstantin nodded. "Hmm. Definitely not sword-- cool, maybe if like...video games?" The Russian rolled up his left coat-sleeve, to make room for where his weapon would be. With a glow of blue, the tamagotchi that had been laying dormant at his belt turned into a translucent blue device that encased his arm from the elbow and below. It shimmered with white runes, and the end of its barrelled gleamed with a similar light.

"Is like, how you say. Arm cannon." He aimed it at a target and fired, a ball of white-energy soaring towards it before a sizzling impact. "Accuracy not so good, but very fun to be using."

There was a look of surprise with the way Konstantin spoke about Szczeosny, he was the first person Milo had met on the island and since then there hadn't been a lot of time spent with first found island friend, but he wouldn't have considered him rude. Blunt and to the point maybe, but still considered friendly. Maybe there was just some heated tension between the two. Personal things, blahblahblah. "Aa, your accents are a little similar," Milo explained, waving his free hand in a circular motion as if it was helping.

But at least that dark look didn't last for long, and the other guy's attempt as pronouncing the greeting brought on a bemused smirk, "That was pretty good, ya." There was a nod of approval, "it's Hawaiian, can be a used as a hello or a goodbye. Can't really say it's my first language when no one really speaks it anymore..." Milo went on as he scratched at his cheek.

Pressing on though with less drawl subject matters like languages and difficulties in mastering them - he still had trouble with Japanese - Milo's interest was perked as Konstantin mentioned that he did not possess a sword. "I know of video games," and simply watched as as sleeve was rolled and a weapon was summoned. "Oh hey ~" the brunette found himself pointing as what had formed on the Russian's arm, "like from Mass Effect." Video game master he might not be, but he had played through those popular titles on his free time and well, knew of them (he never did finish the first game...)

And when it was fired. Milo looked incredibly impressed, and couldn't deny how many visions of Super Sentai team cannons danced in his head. "Dude, that is pretty sweet." (Koume grumbled in his mind). "But all that accuracy stuff can only get better with practice, ya?" Was that grin he was feeding Konstantin perhaps hinting at something? Perhaps it was.

Konstantin's only reply to the similarity comment was a harumph, his cheeks puffing out in what could be best described as a pout. It was short lived, at least, since they moved on to more appeasing topics.

"Hawaiian," he repeated, trying to place it. Was that the islands west of the Americas? Hmm. Best to consult a map later to avoid looking ignorant.

Kostya offered a good natured nod at Milo's observation. "Da, very similar. Mass Effect, so similar. But long range. Unsure how vork, if vondering, do not being asking me."

He looked back at Milo, gears turning. "Practise is being very good." He shook his arm out, squared his shoulders, and faced the other hunter, an eagerness slipping into his motions he could not conceal. Strength was not unattainable. Improvement was possible, through hard work and dedication.

He would be on Death's doorstep in no time.

Konstantin aimed his weapon at Milo, one eyebrow raising with curiosity.

Milo waved his hand in the air, passing the thought with a shake of his head. "Oh nah, I wouldn't be able to understand it even if you could explain it." As much as the trainee was still trying to figure out which position he fit into this place, the smart guy/engineer was not obviously his role; not that he didn't have a brain or had the capability to think deep thoughts but there were just some things that would go over his head. (Koume's conversion from a small object to a naginata simply fell into 'henshin logic'). Probably why he was placed in Sun though, and liked it.

And when he took notice that Konstantin's stance shifted, it made it obvious that his silent suggestion had been responded in kind. Milo's own changed loosely to something akin to show he was ready, but still looked more like a pose from his favorite type of show.

Apparently he wasn't going to make the first move (according to the dice). Milo nodded his head, in respects to the starts to spars. Something he'd also seen on television.

Syntax was, for all intents and purposes, a relatively low-maintenance partner. He was a long range weapon, which let Kostya slink around a safe distance away from any enemy. The childish creature was fond of him in a shallow way, but Kostya didn't take it personally. He was unsure if he was actually capable of real connections-- Syntax had been weaponised so young and immature that he was unsure of how to form them.

But sometimes.

During battle.

He was a great inconvenience.

As soon as Milo had posed himself, the alarm started to play in his head, warning lights flashing, the sirens going at full blast.

[syntax.error@K.BASHMET ~]# var target_acquired = battle('.enemy')
[syntax.error@K.BASHMET ~]# return true
[syntax.error@K.BASHMET ~]# print TARGET ACQUIRED
[syntax.error@K.BASHMET ~]# print TARGET ACQUIRED_

This had started a moment before Kostya had fired his first shot, which was loosed without his full awareness of the strength of the blow. As the charged blast soared towards him, sizzling in its intensity, the trainee simply muttered:

"Oh dear."

This is probably what it felt like when the bad guys of the week got blasted with the Special Canon that the Sentai teams assembled; getting knocked off his feet, the wind knocked right out of him and tingling really bad. Well, those guys usually exploded which was a good thing for Milo. But they also got to like then grow 50 times bigger, which would have been pretty cool. No, for right now, he was on his back, blinking to get the stars out of his eyes. (Thank goodness for that shield).

Koume didn't seem the least bit amused, mostly because he had kind of held her up in front of him when the thing came right at him. But, it was kind of unintentional, an act of defense.

< Never do that again. > she growled.

"Dude, that thing is intense," he breathed out when he got back to his feet, rubbing at his chest with a free hand. "Wow." And shook his head and then raised his arm to let his fingers brush through his hair. "Not going to go down that easy though," he chuckled with a flick of the naginata.

Milo took a step back and then pushed himself forward, swinging the blade around with a little spin at Konstantin. It wasn't as spectacular a hit but he thought he looked pretty heroic, especially from a blow like that.

Konstantin winced as Milo hit the ground. Syntax's wailing still persisted in his head, a screeching wail that would not relent. The weapon hadn't been so worked up in ages, not since they'd torn through the wreckage of an ancient ruin to procure an artifact.

"Thank you," he said, appreciative of the praise, and of the slight dampening Syntax's screeching that it brought. He was a vain little thing, it seemed. He should have moved back, but Milo's slash was well executed: it cut into his shield, enough to trigger a response to move away.

It didn't get to charge as long, but Kostya powered up another blow, aiming for the other hunter's torso and firing. "Yours very sharp," he offered, "am envy of reach."

< Do you even know how to dodge? Or do you just think taking the hits is a manly thing to do? > The ever present voice in Milo's head remarked in a less than pleasant manner. She was annoyed, it was so very obvious.

But at least the brunette had been a little more prepared this time. Taking the shot to the chest. He didn't fall down this time, nor raised the naginata (because that would have gotten an even worse response from Koume). Nope, took it like a man, letting out a deep grunt followed by a wheeze while he stumbled backwards (not falling over though). Not without attempting to strike back, lamely swinging the blade before he got sent too far back. Or he had just simply flailed on reflex. Or it might have been a pebble that was kicked up by his shoe.

Either way, it was a sad little counter attack and Milo had his hand firmly pressed on his chest where it tingled really badly. Like a shock to the system. "You're jealous of reach... dude, you have a blaster canon thing goin' on." Somehow, he managed to laugh even though it hurt.

But at least he knew he wasn't down for the count yet.

Kostya winced as it connected. He had not intended for the blow to be so strong, but Syntax's loud and repeated blare of the siren sound was starting to be more distracting than helpful.

His attempt at a retaliation was met poorly, as it clipped Milo just barely.

"Ah, is true, but uh. Accuracy is not always so great. Vhat is saying? Spray and pray?"

It seemed the ability to not take a hit full in the chest was actually possible with Milo. Wasn't completely in the clear as the shot nicked him the shoulder as he spun out of the way (because he was trying to make it look impressive or something). It was a like tingle in the arm, but nothing of the extent of earlier blows. He could hear Koume snort in his head and mutter.

And more so when he went to swing his weapon in a counter but only managed to catch air. Apparently, he didn't take into account of where he had spun off to. A little too far from his opponent. If he had realized a little sooner, maybe he could have played it off into another string of poses but it was a tad too late for that.

So, the best he could do to save face was to turn on his heel back to where Konstantin was standing as he held Koume lazily in his hand. And a sort of awkward chuckle, "Better than that one, brah. Ya seem to be doing pretty good where I'm standin'." And patted his chest for emphasis. "And ya say ya need work, liar." He grinned.

"Gotta give yourself some more credit," the brunet went on as he parted his feet, ready for the next blow, "how long you been on the island, anyway?"

Oh no. Within his mind's eye, Syntax began to wail even further. He spoke of a trojan infection, and it was communicated in such choppy, garbled language that only head to a mental image of one thing.

"Have to say," Kostya said, suddenly pained, "control is, being, maybe part of vhat am needing to improve." It was punctuated by a series of concussive blasts, a low whistle rocketing through the air with every fire volleyed in Milo's direction.

When it was over, he winced again. "About one year, and half."
