Xena started out as a show with a Pagan reiligion but as it progresses it became Christian.
Eli's supposed to represent Jesus Christ, he can resurect people, do miracles, histeachings are of non-violence and he will help Xena destroy the Olympian gods.
Xena represents the Virgin Mary in some ways except she dies on a cross but turns into a saint and has a baby boy who will be the death of the gods.
This are just two examples of how Xena although it looks pegan was turned Christian.

Xena had a girl. Her first child was a boy (Solan), she got him from having relations with Borias, and Solan was later killed anyway.

The series is very much about the passing of paganism in favour of monotheism. Xena even kills off the greek gods to make it possible.
Whether that means it's a Christian series is a different thing. It's a historical fact that Europe moved away from having panetheons of deities to having just different flavours of Christianity...X:WP comments on that through the filter of a big crazy adventure and puts it's heroine right at the heart of events, without clearly saying which is 'best'. It treats the shift from tribal life to city life in a similar way.

Xena didn't kill all the gods. SHe left Ares and Aphrodite from the greek pantheon, and she left several other pantheons untouched. The show wasn't really of any one religion. It was an entertaining mishmash.

In interviews LL and RT have both said that Eli was supposed to represent Jesus and Christianity. They were pushing the envelope and seeing how much they could get away with. xd They aslo dealt with Abraham and his attempted sacrifice of his Ismail in an early season. I dont remember who the characters names were but in the end Xena didnt stop him. A loud voice told him to stop. They also dealt with King David in the Goliath one. XWP liked to throw in bits of history...Ceaser, Abraham, Cleopatra, Goliath. Eli was just another in that same direction. They wanted us to believe that Xena was directly, or indirectly responsible for everything good that happened lol

I remember I used to use that as an excuse to watch, that it had some historical tie ins. Ironically, it backfired. My mother thought I was starting to believe in Xena or something.

Not because it was christian (although that did mean more gods to mess with), but because I didn't like how it was done. I really didn't like her daughter. I mean, they did Hindu and Norse and other stuff. They did find with Judaeism in the first season I thought

Eve is also sort of a Jesus parallel in that she was a virgin birth, and then she too goes on spreading the info about Eli's God of Love and the like. In addition to that she's also like Saul/Paul, who was a non-believer who then went all good, and started spreading the teachings.
