Rin was fed up with the hum of glaring fluorescents and the stagnant dry air of the labs. She slid the small potted plant back on a shelf out of the attention of obnoxious trainees who just couldn't keep their fingers to themselves.
She head out into the fresh air and wandered down a path. No aim or goal. Just fresh warm air.
Her peace was short lived however when she heard a familiar strum-a-strum-strum nearby.

"The Sun is a mass of incandescent Gas, a gigantic nuclear furnas-!" Came the singing along with the strumming, but the voice and playing hesitated as one of the strings seemed to go out of tune, and with a frustrated grumble, the note was hummed irritably as he adjusted the tuner to compensate. "Aaaa! Aaaa- c'mon, still flat-"
Jerry was sitting outside one of the buildings with what looked like a small wooden box some of their rations came in bolted to a ukulele neck, trying desperately to get his repairs to stay in tune.

The moment Rin caught sight of him she hesitated and rocked back a step. She tucked behind a corner and watched suspiciously. What was he up to now? She squinted just a bit. I'm watching you Jerry. But then... he fiddled with his... junk-machine. Hmm.
She pulled back and then resumed rounding the corner as if nothing happened, "Hey Jer. What you got there?"

He flinched at the sudden voice, but relaxed when he recognized it, "Er... a ukulele, theoretically."

Rin raised an eyebrow, "What happened to the one you got with your... um." Best not to go there.
"Well, I haven't seen you in a while. How have you been doing?"

"The one I got on that mission..." He looked pained a moment, "It.... got possessed and turned to ash." That about covered it. "This one here's cobbled together from the bits left over from the one Otto gave me, that last Shadowling attack it was er.. pretty eaten. But all the important bits were salvageable, except this one string just- I guess it keeps settling, or the knot in the bridge isn't tight enough who knows it keeps going out of tune." An exasperated sigh and he turned to give her a wobbly smile. "Been worse. Been better. Same old insanity I suppose? Ahahaha, and you?"

Rin's eyes glazed over at the explanation about the note and the issue with...the... why. Yeah, musical instruments were not her forte.
"I've been busy with the garden. It's finally flourishing and erm. Same for my relationship, I suppose." She flashed a toothy grin at him. "Glad to see you.. happy?... Um. Not drunk, right?"

Relationship? Jerry shifted, trying to wrack his brains with all the talk he'd heard going on on the island- it seemed he was increasingly alone in the bachelor and bachelorette crowd. "That's good to hear!" He smiled uneasily, "On both fronts. Garden, huh? What sort of things are you growing? And no, ahaha, I'm not drunk. Sober for months now," He added, a touch proudly.

Rin nodded and smiled. "All sorts of s**t. Flowers, fruits, vegetables, and..." She abruptly cleared her throat before offering a half-quote with her fingers, "Herbs."
"That's good to hear about the booze though, never thought I'd see the day."

"Herbs?" Jerry blinked cluelessly. At the talk of drink and him, his face flushed and he looked back down to his makeshift instrument, "Glad to hear you have such confidence in me."

"Oh come now, it's not like that. You just have like...," she formed a goose egg with her thumb and forefinger. "This much self restraint."

Rin cleared her throat exaggeratedly and flashed a quick grin. "Your nerves aren't alone in getting shot in this place."
