It had been one of those rare days. Mr. Primsley, Con's employer, had left for the month, taking his family and a few of his staff down to Oldcastle. Con hadn't been one of the selected few, so he was left at home to help maintain the residence for when the family returned. But with the family gone, and other higher ranking staff in charge, Con had been tasked with delivering a few letters. After that, the rest of the day was his. So, task complete, Con had no where he needed to be.

As he strolled leisurely through the streets of Palisade, Rushlight, Keth's crow companion, perched on Con's shoulder. The footman had purchased some smoked meat from a market vendor and fed piece after piece to the bird, enjoying the creature's presence. It seemed equally enthused, being gentle with Con's fingers and making sure to only grab the meat. Keth-Selhan was also on remarkably excellent behavior. So far he hadn't charged, bitten or otherwise attempted to harm another living thing. He paced next to his chosen sedately, ears twitching, eyes scanning, but otherwise he appeared relaxed.

Con tested the waters. "You are mi -" The words hadn't even formed on Con's lips before they were proven false. A dog, foolish in its bravery, had decided to challenge the stag. It came snapping, growling and snarling towards them. Keth loved a challenge. Con reached out a hand to the buck's shoulder, his hand just barely grasping bristling fur, before his chosen was out of reach.

Hand still outstretch, Con raised his voice "No, Keth Stop!". The buck ignored his chosen. With a burst of powerful muscles it charged towards the offending creature. The dog hadn't yet realized its peril, that it would perish beneath black hooves. Con lurched forward, knowing that he wouldn't make it in time to stop his chosen. With a squawk, his perch suddenly unstable, Rushlight took flight to one of the nearby houses.

It was Farthir who appeared first. He had been keeping his post up the street, watching for any danger that might befall Palisade or its citizens. Roger had specifically told him that this was an important visit and that he was not to cause any trouble. This, he felt, was a valiant effort toward order, not causing trouble. He has burst from their walk, and Roger tried to snatch him back, to no avail. What began as a reaching tumble became a sprint after the rogue Guardian.

It was the dog who was in danger, Farthir decided, from the likes of a mean old deer! It was like that time he had been assaulted by the wood, but this time he would not be forced to retreat, he was certain! After all, this deer's antlers didn't seem so sharp. His own were filed, after all, so clearly everyone did that for their Guardians.

He rushed the dog, head low, and stood between it and the Guardian, chest puffed out proudly. Roger called to him, less worried about the dog than the two-ton beast likely prepared to gore his poor little idiot to death.

"Wait, wait!"
