She didn't know what to feel, so for a while, Eanah felt nothing at all. After bidding her confused sister farewell, Eanah went back to her rooms, but she didn't sleep that night or the night after, tapping into some mysterious reserve most likely first coaxed into being by the Legion in a time she could no longer clearly recall. She moved through her lessons and practices mechanically, committing rituals and expectations to memory that she recalled at the strangest moments, such as when she was washing her hair or rubbing Thren's back with his favorite lavender oil.

Thren.

Through all of this, the drakein acted as though nothing was wrong, and when Eanah broke out of her thrall long enough to worry, that was what disturbed her most of all. If her bonded couldn't tell that she suffered, just how far away had she pulled from normal feeling? How closed off from the world was she?

It happened on her way to meet Dares for lunch. She left her quarters in what was, thankfully, a warm dress, and just as she was about to enter the hall, she froze. Beyond the large, obsidian doors, she heard chatter and muted laughter, the clang of dishes, the scrape of chairs. The sounds people made when they mingled and shared their lives, not just with handshakes or hugs, but with all of their attention and love. She had too much to think about right now to give anyone her attention, and she no longer knew if she had the ability to love at all.

She checked her belt, and finding her purse heavy with the monthly stipend she'd acquired that day, Eanah turned and ran, leaving the Sanctuary behind as she made her way to the docks.

---

She bought passage on the first vessel heading somewhere she had never been, and when she stepped off of the boat onto Aisko, she found the place perfectly in tune with her mood. The village was cheery enough, but the ice and snow lurked wherever she looked, silently waiting for someone to slip up so that they could make their move.

After renting a sled and bedroll from a smiling old Dovaa and purchasing a half dozen palm-sized meat pies from his daughter, Eanah continued out onto the icy plains under the cover of night.

---

In an unfortunate turn of events, Eanah's need for rest caught up with her that evening, and it was with quite a bit of confusion that she awoke at midday the next day, a loud and pained bellow her unexpected alarm. She was cold to an almost dangerous degree, but the thought of such a meaningless death did not frighten her, it only made her angry, and only for a moment. Eanah rose to her feet and brushed her clothing clean, catching brief glimpses of the pair of pale dragons winging her way. Aiskalas. Powerful beasts. It was true that one of them appeared to be injured, but that didn't automatically mean she could let down her guard, Blood Moon or not.

She gathered up her temporary belongings and stowed them on a snowless patch of ground sheltered by a small grove of pines, then she brandished her scepter and followed the dragons, careful to keep her boots from crunching in the snow and hiding when she could. They didn't go much farther, and when they landed, her suspicions were confirmed. The larger of the two had a distinct limp, and its leg was bleeding sluggishly into the snow. The other was making a crude poultice for its friend, lover, mother, brother, Eanah didn't care. They were weak and vulnerable, and she was not. She had been made to be strong.

It took no time and no thought. She stepped from behind the safety of a large rock and planted her scepter in the snow, a spark of flame arcing from its end into the overcast sky. The dragons turned as one to face her, the healthier one letting out a warning huff of icy breath.

Eanah smiled and called her fire.
