I, my fellow legal Gaians, am Paul. I'm one of the youngest in the crowd at the tender, young age of 18. I grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia where I lived until less than a year ago. I now reside in Christiansburg, Virginia.

The move wasn't bad dispite the fact that it was during my senior year. Three of my closest friends moved away either just before or just after I did, so it wasn't a big deal as far as friends go. I did, however, leave behind my beautiful girlfriend. We're toughing it out over the next few years until she graduates and decides if she'll be moving in with me or not. I don't have kids now, but someday I would like to have one or two kids.

I mentioned moving just before my senior year, which I'm almost done with (go June go!!). I do a little work here and there for my uncles company (Simon and Associates, Inc.) as an Assistant Surveyor. My ambition is to work in the field of computers, possibly something with Computer Security.

In my spare time, besides posting on Gaia, I like to play video games (PC mainly, but PS2 or N64 from time to time), read (espionage and fantasy), do a little web design, and hang out with friends when I can. I write poetry on a as-it-comes-to-me basis, but nothing worth reading. I also used to play soccer and run cross country, which I continue to do from time to time on my own or with my younger sister.

I've probably rambled on enough for most of you so I'll leave it at that. Not that I expect them, but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I'd say my bark is worse than my bite, but I tend to skip over the barking and head straight for the biting, so we'll just forget I mentioned that saying. twisted

Robert Jordan's series, The Wheel of Time, is my favorite fantasy series. I've also read parts of the Sword of Shanarra series (forget the author) and I liked it a lot as well.

I'm not afraid to admit that I read the Harry Potter series as well, but it's a little mixed in its genre I think. The Redwall series by Brian Jacques was really good, but now their only day-reads, so I've nearly stopped reading them.

Other than that I just browse the library and pick up random books. (That's how I found The Wheel of Time and the Sword of Shanarra series.)

I wouldnt of guessed Paul, maybe Steve xp And hey, I like the Harry Potter books. The first few are too kiddy, and the fourth hes swooning over the ***** Cho and it mentions her WAY too much (thank godz shes not in the movie much), but after that their good.

Haven't seen the fourth movie yet. I tend to be a little slow to the punch on these things.

EDIT: And Steve? Why Steve? evil I don't want to be a Steve. Although, you know one of the weirdest things... somebody took a stab at my name once... I'd only been talking to them about an hour or so and they guessed Ryan... which is my middle name. pirate I was scared.

I dont know, you just seem like a Steve. Maybe its the fact your aliad is Sryne, which begins with an S and it five letters. Whats wrong with Steve? At least its not Nolan (Nolan Ryan)

Drawing a blank on the Nolan part, but we'll go with it. Steve though? It reminds me of the guy from Blues Clues... Maybe because his name is Steve, but that's besides the point.

Wouldnt know about Steve, and I guess Nolan Ryan might be a bit before your time. Worlds Best Baseball Pitcher. Hands Down.

Before my time and outside my range of knowledge. I'm not a sports fan. I play soccer and don't even follow the world cup... or whatever the big soccer thing is called. It's quite sad really.

Hiya Paul. I figured I'd comment on books here in your thread so we don't take over Book Whore's. smile

I started reading the Wheel of Time books, I waited so long for which ever one was next that I forgot about them for a while. Perhaps a trip to the library is in order.
I love the Harry Potter books even though the earlier ones are written for younger readers.
I think I've read the first 3 or 4 Shannarra books but ran out of time and patience for the rest of them. Terry Brooks also wrote some others that I forget the names of.
Mercedes Lackey has quite a few good series. I'm pretty sure I've read all of her Heralds of Valdemar, but I know I haven't finished others.
Lately I've been reading young adult fantasy to see if it's appropriate for my daughter to read.
I've also been reading the Tony Hillerman mystery series. He's a good author and he seems to know enough about Navaho culture to make his characters sound authentic.
Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy books combine magic and the Sherlock Holmes type of mystery. I've always loved Sherlock Holmes and just about died of happiness when I found the two Lord Dary books I own.

I should stop now. I'm going to hit the submit button now.....

^_^ I've read quite a few of Mercedes Lackey's books. I have a friend that owns every one of the books she can get her grubby hands on, so I borrow them from time to time.

I'll have to look into the other authors you mentioned. I need to start reading diligently again, I miss it.

I envy your friend, that's quite the collection of books. *Turns a dark shade of green* Our library has a good sized Lackey collection, now to just make it down there more often.

I don't know any of the fantasy books you've mentioned, but I stumbled accross Polgara, by David Eddings and that got me hooked on all his stuff.

GLuck on the girlfriend front, distance makes the heart grow...wider.

I'll have to check out Eddings' books and see if they hit my fancy.

Distance... yes, well... all I can say to that is distance is a b***h and if I could I'd slap her/him/it across the face with a 12 gauge any time.
