Suluksati had decided to make camp on a small island between Ayrala and Eowyn. Some, even she herself, might think it foolish to travel to the wind torn contident, but she could handle tough winds and storms- she was an Alkein. Her wings were strong and nimble.

She had arrived the day before and had set up a camp on the rocky place- just a few small possessions and a little cloth carpet to nest on. The fact that she had possessions was a big thing for Suluksati- she didn't normally carry much with her anywhere. But there were a few things she held dear, things that she couldn't wear or carry around all the time. Some of the items- a feather amulet, an old plate- reminded her of her family- she hadn't seen her clan in some time. Other things reminded her of her cause- the dragon scale she had found one day while exploring, the teeth of a small dragon she had failed to save... important things that she couldn't let go of. That and a pseudo hoard. Selfless as she claimed to be, she did like having shiny things around. Her collection of coins lay neatly arranged where she could see them as she rested – it was something nice to look at in the wilderness.

That night had been spent, however, looking at the darkened continent of Ayr, pretending she wasn't excited to explore it. No, she couldn't be excited! That wouldn't be right for someone like herself! She had to face it stoically with great purpose. Honestly, though, she felt like a Keinling with a sparkly object. Her first time properly off of Serenia! Wow!

She managed to sleep at some point and day broke, and she powered into her first Ayr patrol with great enthusiasm! The stormy spires were fantastic to fly around and it was a treat to just glide! And there were dragons! Beautiful Ayrala dragons flying in the breeze. She kept her distance, having remembered several, ah, 'occasions' in the past where dragons took offence to her presence. Honestly, she was just happy to watch them from afar, as a living testament to why she was doing what she was doing. She didn't know what that why was, nor could she put it in words exactly, but she did know that the dragons flying in the distance on the gusts of Ayr meant something, and it inspired her.

After an uneventful and emotionally uplifting patrol, she was heading back to the edge of the contident to find herself something to eat and bring back to her base camp, when a commotion by the base of the spires near the coast caught her eye. A smaller green shape could be seen, with two larger white shapes circling around it, occasionally diving in. She heard laughter and protests- sounds that were all too familiar. She bared her teeth and flew in.

As she got closer, she knew, with certainty, that this was not a good situation. A Ysali dragon was flying along the coast, apparently trying to mind its own business. Two large Ayrala flew above, laughing and commenting and harassing the smaller green dragon. She flew closer, hoping that her gut feeling was wrong.

"Hey! Hey Plantling!" said one of the Ayrala, crowing, "Find anything down there?"
"I'll bet he did!"
crooned it's partner, "I can smell the distinct bitter smell of medicine. I think he's found something!" The other leered, a disturbing and sharp smile, "Well then, love, we should help him out, shouldn't we?"

"Just leave me alone!" said the Ysali, looking up nervously, "I'll be out of your territory and on my way soon, I promise! Just let me find my Faekarat familiar and we'll be on our way."

"Ooooo a faekarat? What an andorable, pansy little pet! How cute” crooned an Ayrala, laughing, "What do you say we help him out, hmm?"
The other Ayrala swooped in and let it's claws just barely scratch the ysali's hide, taunting the smaller green dragon with a slap of the tail. It rose with arrogant grace back to it's mate's side "What an excellent idea, love! In fact, is that it over there?" they said, looking into a patch of scrub down below.

The dread that flashed in the ysali's eyes was echoed in Suluksai's heart and she flew faster towards them.

"Er... you see him?" said the Ysali, trying to see if he could see the elusive shape of his familiar, "Good, then... uh..."

"Why yes it is over there!" said one of the Ayrala, "I can see it's little ears and tail" It swooped down suddenly, before the Ysali could react, snatching something small and furry out of the brush.

"Stop! Give her back!" cried the Ysali. The shrub shivered and moved and reached out towards the Ayrala, but with a powerful beat of it's wings, it flew out of range of the plant magic. "I'm sorry, I can't hear you darling! You'll have to... SHOUT!" A gust of powerful wind issued from it's mouth, shoving the Ysali back. They tumbled and struggled to balance themselves as the two Ayrala laughed and the small creature in the Ayrala's claw struggled and squeaked in terror.

Suluksati felt her blood start to boil with rightgeous anger at what was happening. A slight glow flickered in her feathers as she adjusted to the sudden gust from the Ayrala's breath and angled forward. Her frustration manifested in her magic: She wasn't close enough to do anything yet. Not yet, not yet, not yet. She powered forward as fast as her wings could carry her.
"Oh, my love, I am so hungry. You don't mind if I have a snack, do you" said the ayrala with the Faekarat slowly, making sure the still off-balance Ysali heard every word.
"No, please, come on..." Protested the plant dragon, trying to charge. The Ayrala's mate simply flew gracefully forward and swiped, almost gently, at the Ysali, scratching their skin. Another gust, likely magical, shoved the Ysali off balance again. "Not at all, dear, not at all!" it said, grinning.
"Oh good" said it's mate, opening it's jaws and lifting the small, struggling morsel towards it's gaping maw.

STOP! IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE!" Suluksati screamed. The startled Ayrala's jaws closed on a glowing magical shield that formed a bubble around the Faekarat as Suluksati streaked towards the group, positioning herself between the Ayrala pair and the Ysali.
She had seen enough to know what they were: Bullies. She hated bullies.
"I am ashamed for your behavior!" she scolded the larger air dragons, "He is your kin! You should not be cruel to him!" All three dragons gave her puzzled looks. What was this drakein doing here? Why was she lecturing them? What the hell was this, even?
Finally the Ayrala holding the faekarat hostage bared it's fangs. "Butt out, feathers. This isn't any of your business."
"It is. If you do not give back this Ysali's familiar I will. Be forced. To take. Action." she said, puffing herself up (an easy feat with feathers) and staring down the larger dragon. She didn't want to hurt dragons, beautiful creatures that they were, but cruelty could not be tolerated.
"Ohhhhh look at me, I'm so scared!" taunted the Ayrala, swooping in from behind to grab the Ysali almost gently, it's white sharp-toothed face grinning next to the green dragon's uncomfortable and afraid muzzle. They dug their claws on-so-carefully into the still destabilized plant dragon's shoulder.
"Last warning. This isn't your business, and you'll make an interesting carpet for our lair, won't she dear? Such pretty greens and whites."
"Unhand him." Suluksati growled, clenching and unclenching her claws.
"No." said the Ayrala, smirking and shoving the Ysali to the ground.
"Very well. snapped Suluksati, gathering her magic.

Her white feathers became blinding as Suluksati flashed with light. The Ayrala recoiled at the painful brightness, their eyes gleaming briefly with refraction before they had to close them.
When they opened them, Suluksati was not in sight.
"Huh." said the Ayrala with the captive Faekarat, flying in towards it's partner, "Guess she ran away. Do you want to run away?" it asked the pinned Ysali. It didn't wait for an answer, "Well you should, dear, you should." It lifted the Faekarat back to it's mouth, slowly, right in front of the Ysali's face, "Say bye bye to your little friend here, greenie!" it said, preparing to chomp down to the tune of it's mate's snickering.

It was like a bolt from the clear blue of the sky. Teeth locked around the Ayrala's claw and, tendon severed, it opened. The Faekarat took the oppurtunity to glide back to the relative safety of the bushes as Suluksati slammed her shoulder into the dragon. The Ayrala's Air magic helped it to right itself and it attacked, it's dominant claw hanging uselessly. Suluksati was smaller and managed to evade, clawing at it's chest. Wind magic sucked her towards it's hind legs, but her wings were as much an advantage as a disadvantage- her maneuverability kept her from dire harm. Blood dripped from both combatants, the other Ayrala watching with surprise- what had been a fun romp of torment-and-then-kill-the-ysali had turned into something very different.
"You're going to regret this, feathers!" snarled the Ayrala, gouging a good bit of Suluksati's side.
"No." said Suluksati sadly, "I will not."

They were both white creatures, stained red with each others blood. The Ayrala was weakening, and it's mate could see it. It shoved the Ysali aside and, with a shriek, went in to assist.

The released Ysali took the oppurtunity to find it's familiar and, with a puzzled glance at the strange drakein, limpingly flew away towards it's home. It was not taking any more chances, and it knew that this was the best opportunity it would probably have all day to get the hell out of there.

Suluksati didn't see the green shape flying hastily away. She was focused on the dragons attacking her. She knew she was out of her league but she could not back down. "Cease this nonsense" she said, trying not to sound desperate, "I only wish to save you from your own cruelty! She said, dodging a swipe and and countering in turn with one of her own, "Others see this cruelty and that is why they hunt you! You have to stop, otherwise they never will!" she said, shielding herself from a magical gust with magic of her own.

"Shut up! You spoil our fun and now you attack AND preach at us? You stuck up little abomination!" Suluksati dodged a powerful bite that would have rent her in two, "We'll end you right now" And she believed they could, but she wasn't going to let that fear drive her. She could not tolerate these bullies, dragons or no.
"Fine." she said, resigning herself to self defense, "I'm sorry."
She twisted in midair, slashing the mate across the eye. It screamed, recoiling and cycling around back towards the fight. She dodged a swipe and bit, hard, at the other dragon's already injured neck. Her fangs sank deep into flesh and the salty tang of blood filled her mouth. Her own blood ran as desperate claws raked down her back. Her opponent screamed and she released the dragon. She flapped painfully away, summoning a soothing shield of light around her. Her wings had enough integrity left to them to glide, and she did so as the shimmering light around her knit blood vessel, muscle and bone back together.
It saved her life.
The Ayrala's partner dove in, wind magic at it's wingtips, its claws poised to slash at her.
Her wings had healed enough for her to swoop out of the way, though her muscles protested every movement. She flew up and spiraled away from the dragons. One was weakening visibly and the other was enraged. She knew they would pursue- her flight was not for safety- she wanted gravity on her side.
The still strong Ayrala opened it's mouth and Suluksati braced for the gust of it's roar. She was buffeted by the winds, but her wings caught the gust and she controlled it, looping around and diving down. Her claws raked the dragons side and tail as she dropped like a stone, her wings tucked close to her as she dove towards the weakened dragon like a bird of prey. She slammed her foreclaws into it's head and it's struggling ascent was halted. It crashed to the ground of the contident.
It's mate screamed and dove like an arrow towards Suluksati, it's wind magic powering it forward.
"You abomination! You disgusting monster!" it shrieked, it's voice a grief and rage tinted windstorm above her. She was running low on magic, but, seeing the dragon come inevitably towards her like a vicious bloodthirsty whirlwind, she pulled a spell from her dwindling magical force.. Another flash of light burst forth from her, as blinding as the sun, and she dodged quickly as the Ayrala recoiled from itt. With what energy she could muster into her wings, she powered her way to the back of it's neck and, like it had done to the Ysali, clamped down with claws and teeth, biting hard where it could not reach her.

The Ayrala shrieked, it's eyes streaming from the light and its body screaming from her claws. Suluksati's hindclaws rent at it's wings as it tried to ascend and it tried to claw at her, failing as it scrabbled over it's own scales. She struggled to hold on as it bucked in it's fury.
"There is still time. You can stop this. You can... ugh.... fly away!" she gasped out as it's wing landed a lucky blow on her side, "I can let you go. I can forgive you. Just... stop!" but as it screamed in rage she knew that there was no chance of it surrendering, just as she would not herself surrender.
It flew up and up and up into the clouds, summoning a whirlwind that threatened to pluck her off of it's back. Her feathers felt heavy and flat, the blood in her feathers chilling her even as it steamed with warmth. She let go, letting her wings catch the whirlwind's updraft as the Ayrala struggled to stay airborne. It was tiring, and she pitied it it's fate.
Angling her pained, wetted wings she streaked in, trying to ride the gales using what remained of her agility to dip and dart around. It swiped at her, its movements slowed- it had lost a lot of blood, and she managed to cling to it's large chest.
"I'm sorry" she said, and then she stuck her claw in as far as she was able.

With a last weakening, warbling cry, the Ayrala tumbled from the sky. She was nearly dragged down to her death with it.
Her claws stuck in the dying form and her wings could not support both her and the dragon.
Finally, she wrenched her claw free and shot up one last time as it joined it's mate on the ground. She circled gently in for a landing and lay on a warm rock, panting, her wings outstretched to dry out, her body glowing with the last of her healing magic as she watched the dragons decay into bones, leaving only their souls behind.

It was late in the day when Suluksati felt she had the physical and emotional strength to preen herself of the filth of battle, and nearly nightfall when she could bring herself to move and collect the dragons souls. She felt terrible for killing the dragons, but she hadn't had a choice. She couldn't let them continue on as the cruel beings they were, and they had made the choice to fight to the death themselves. It might have been avoidable, but it had to be done. She was not going to waste their sacrifice, as filthy as she felt, about it, and so she claimed the souls as hers.

She was tired, but she knew she could manage the flight back to her base camp. Finally, as the quiet of night washed over the land, she found her home. Her wings, her body, her very soul was tired and she wished only to curl up on her carpet and sleep.

She lay down on the carpet and looked out towards Ayr, lost in thought.

Something poked at her conciousness and prevented her from sleeping. She lifted her head and looked around, frowning. Her things. Where were her things? She stood up and, with growing franticness, she searched for her meager posessions. Gone. All gone. She sat down in confusion. How could her belongings simply vanish?

Then she saw it, a bouncing lithe shape holding a small coin. Her small coin. She bounded after it and found three of the little bastards. Silx, all of them, inspecting and toying with her things! When they saw her, they grabbed what they had been playing with and scurried into their holes. A strike, slowed by injuries and exhaustion, snagged one, which she killed. But even after hours of frantic digging made painful and unbearable by her injuries, she could not find her treasures. The only thing salvaged was her carrysack and the supplies inside it.
She looped it around her chest and carried it and the Silx back to her clothen nest, placed the soul orbs inside, and, filled with a tired melancholy, finally went to sleep.
