 1000 HP VS  1000 HP Locke kicked at the sand beneath his feet in anticipation. Mira had agreed to help him and Shuca train some more; this would be their third battle, and he thought that they were starting to get the hang of it. They still had a long way to go, but Shuca was a surprisingly fast learner. "Let's do this," Locke said with a nod to Mira. They'd be facing another water beast this time; the lapras, Breaker. It seemed that little Shuca would remain the underdog for a while, but maybe that would make him tougher.

Mira had landed on shore with some reluctance, as always when she had to go on land. But their boat was too big to come near the beach where they'd be battling, and they had no smaller boat for her to observe from. Not that having a small boat near a pokemon battle was particularly safe, either. She'd just have to hop back on Breaker's back as soon as the battle was done, and in case he happened to faint, she'd brought along some pilfered healing items.
She nodded to Locke, then turned to her pokemon. "Alright Breaker, let's show them what we've got!"

"Quick Attack!" Locke commanded.
Shuca sprinted into the ocean waves and vanished from sight. He swam as fast as a torpedo through the water and tried to headbutt Breaker from below. His invisibility would be an advantage in the water, but he would not be undetectable; movement was amplified in the water, and he would have to come up for air continuously.

As soon as the Vaporeon hit the water, Breaker lost track of him. He looked around in vain for a moment before feeling the strike from below.
Mira realized it was hard to try and dodge an attack you couldn't see coming, but you could still defend against it. "Hunker down with Ancientpower!" she ordered.
Breaker arched his neck and drew on a power within himself, briefly developing a aura of great age and experience.

"Haze," Locke said, remembering what he had been taught about buffers. Since Shuca didn't have any attacks that would be strong against Breaker, going up against a stronger defense could mean trouble.
Shuca's head popped up above the surface. He opened his mouth and exhaled a thick fog that sapped Breaker's defense.

As the mist wafted across Breaker and wiped away the aura he'd build up, Mira acknowledged the tactic with a tight nod. The new recruit was learning. But there was still more than one way to win a battle. Opting for straight damage for now, she called, "Now, Thunderbolt!"
As the mist cleared, the Lapras began swimming in circles, building up speed. When he'd gathered momentum, he leaped into the air and shot a bright bolt of lightning lancing into the water. It maybe hard to tell where his opponent was, but water happened to conduct electricity very well.

Shuca gave a sharp yip of pain as electricity jolted through him. He hadn't been expecting it to be so painful. "Shuca!" Locke called from the shore in concern. "Ice Beam!"
