Caterpie's Forest Beginner Rank, Levels 1 - 10 Home to Bug and Grass Types Just west of Armonia lies a small but flourishing forest. In the sun, it glimmers with colors; red, yellow, blue, and multitudes of green. Though it's labeled as a dungeon, if only for the mysterious moss covered stairs that appear to lead explorers deeper into sun-flooded groves, most Armonians don't think of Caterpie's Forest as particularly dangerous. Guild leaders send their new recruits here for practice. While most of the wild Pokemon who have taken up residence in the forest are peaceful, the Bug types can be quite territorial...

Freunde found herself, yet again, strolling into Caterpie's Forest. She'd been here twice already, but that didn't stop her from wanting to explore a bit more. She'd run into quite a few Pokemon last time and, while she was hoping for the same this time, there were a few areas she still hadn't been to that she wanted to try to reach today.
Straightening her bows, she headed in to the forest with a determined look on her face. During her training she'd mastered a new move, and was hoping to try it out on someone. Tail Whip was a very helpful move, after all: lowering the defense of a Pokemon could be important in a battle against a Rock to Steel type, with high stats in that area.
She herself was pretty solid, but thankfully still light enough on her feet to avoid most attacks. When she was hit, though, she could withstand quite a bit of pain and continue to fight on.

Caterpie
Taking her chances in the tall grass, Freunde had her wish answered. She hadn't been in the forest for long before she found a Caterpie eating a few leaves. The bug Pokemon stood up and waved its arms in warning, not wanting her to get any closer. Freunde snorted softly: leaves were for bugs, not her, but she wouldn't let the wimpy attempt at keeping her at bay stop her. She had a new move to try out!
With a quick turn, she lashed her tail out at the Caterpie, who was knocked off balance in its flailing. She completed the turn and lunged with her claws, Scratching the Caterpie hard enough to send it tumbling back into its dinner. With a satisfied smirk on her face she headed off, adjusting the bow on her tail as she went.
After fixing her bow, Freunde settled down for a few moments to catch her breath. Wow...her first time using the move and it had worked! Ha, all that training really did pay off. She gave herself a mental pat on the back before setting off again, ready to explore the forest a bit more.

Weedle
No sooner had she set off than a Weedle dropped out of the trees directly in front of her. Freunde stopped short as the little bug Pokemon lifted its head, the stinger on its head shining in the sun. She wasn't afraid of the poison it contained, but it would still hurt to get stung by it. Deciding practice makes perfect, she lowered herself to the ground to give the Tail Whip and Scratch combo another go.
A few moments later and the Weedle was laying on its back, staring up at the sky with a dazed expression on its tiny face. Another flawless combo! Stepping over the Weedle with a satisfied air about her, Freunde pressed on, giving the little creature a bit of space to breathe.
As she left the scene, Freunde couldn't help but grin and jump slightly in victory. Her training had really paid off! She knew when she got through with this session she'd be well on her way to learning another new move, one that took a bit more skill than simply scratching. Double Kick would be an incredible skill to have, since it was the Fighting type. Her small legs would need to be trained to be much quicker than they already were, though, if she wanted to be successful with that attack.

Nincada
Her dance was interrupted by another Pokemon, though. She froze as she spotted movement out of the corner of her eye, and before she knew what was going on a Nincada had dropped down out of a small tree to land on her head, making clicking noises to ward her off. Giving a shout of surprise, Freunde raised her small arms to grab the bug Pokemon and toss it aside.
A quick spin sent the Nincada flying with a Tail Whip, and she decided it had had enough before she even started. Walking away, she shook herself out to rid her skin of that nasty creepy-crawly feel.
Freunde couldn't believe her luck. She'd gone into the forest to try and hone her skills, and she certainly had. Anything from here on out would just be a bonus. Strutting her way through the woods, she paused for a drink and to straighten her bows. They needed to be tied a bit tighter next time, she thought to herself. All this fighting was getting them roughed up!
Next to the river was a little bush and, after Freunde tied her ribbons tighter, she went to explore it. After poking about for a few moments a berry fell right into her outstretched hand. An Oren Berry! Great! Tucking it away for safe keeping, she nudged the bush a bit more, but nothing else fell.
Just as she was about to move away, something went 'thunk' under the bush once again. Freunde turned to investigate and grinned when she saw another Oren Berry. There had been two after all. Perfect! She picked it up and put it with the other berry for safe keeping. Maybe she'd be able to make a Poffin with all these berries she was finding.

Butterfree, +20 EXP
After putting the berries away, Freunde decided to follow the river for a bit. She hadn't gone far when she spotted a Butterfree drinking from the water. Her tail twitched as she grinned: another Pokemon to practice on! Excellent. She waited in a crouched position, not wanting to startle the Pokemon too much and have it fall into the river. Once it moved away, she'd pounce.
She never got her chance, unfortunately. When the Butterfree moved, it flew straight up over the river. Watching it go with a frown, Freunde stamped her foot into the dirt with a scowl. She should have jumped when she had the change.
Watching the Butterfree fly away was hard. Freunde knew she needed to gain a few more levels before she could even think about finding a Moon Stone. She sighed softly and sat down on the river's edge for a while before deciding she should move on. She still had a bit of time before needing to head back and she wanted to make the most of it.
Strolling along the river once more, Freunde decided to stop and rest as she watched the small speck that was the Butterfree join a larger group. Their wings shimmered in the sun and she smiled just a bit. As much as she enjoyed getting stronger, she also loved to sit and watch the beauty of the day. She felt incredibly lucky to be able to train and live as she pleased without having a human tell her what to do.

Combee
Freunde picked herself up once the Butterfree were out of sight and turned to head back into the forest, in the direction of the exit. Her path was blocked by a rather disgruntled looking Combee, though. She frowned just a bit and crouched low, wondering if she should attack it or not. She could use the experience, but she wasn't sure if doing a quick hit and run on a grumpy Pokemon was the best idea. Or perhaps it just needed a quick rustle to realize what a lovely day it was actually having before she got here. Ha!
But her ultimate decision was to leave it be. Who knew how many other Combee were around that could attack.
