Has anything horrible happened to you during a concert or on the marching field? Nothing too horrible has ever happened to me, but I just watched a video of some poor guy marching, and his pants fell down. He didn't even stop marching while he did it! He just kinda, took it all in stride. ^_^;;

This happened to my friend not me. She was marching our show at half-time, and it had just rained earlier that day. Well the middle of our field was like a giant mound of nasty chocolate pudding. There was no avoiding it. She had to march threw center field. Everything was going fine, and then she slipped! In the middle of the show! She was spralled out in the middle of the feild trying to recover what little dignity she had left while the rest of the band just whent on with out her.

We always stay and watch the other local bands compete at regionals and well the camera man was there with his big light and getting nice facial shots of other band WHILE THEY WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A COMPETITION PEICE!! Luckily the only people who could see beyond the stage lights were the percussionists. But still it was rude and disorderly

Eww. xp When if comes to football games, our 'good' field is made of astro turf, so nothing like that happens for us. Though our practice field, gets the worst mud EVER. It's horrible, you sink in and get mud in your socks and legs.. and with my luck, I always have to go through several times in a show. It's really bad when we're practicing, 'cause we have to redo moves over and over. sweatdrop

We were watching WCU at their competition this year, and a guard member got her flag caught on one of her earrings. Needless to say, she had to sit the rest of the show out.

This hapened to me very recently...

I was in concert band, and since I'm in the trombone section, I was on the risers. Well, after the first song in the program, I needed more room for my slide, so I scooted my chair back...And fell backwards off the risers! My back hurt SO much afterwards, and I was inches away from cracking my head open. I screamed, and the other band members said it sounded like a squeak. >.<

I was backstage and on my back, still in my chair, but tipped over, and the band director came over to see me, while a teacher took the mic and asked if there was a doctor in the audience. My sister said that the band director didn't return to the stage until the second half...and they said I couldn't sit in the risers anymore. >.< During the time in-between, I got to sit in his office with an ice pack, and I was very popular that evening. smile

that was probably the scariest thing that ever happened to me! And it was real dark backstage too. I thought the world had gone black all of a sudden...

We either march for practice in a parking lot they painted lines on (ouchies for the feet) or in the baseball field where they paint an football field in the outfield. The latter gets extremely muddy from just marching on it, and then on top of it when it rains...ugh. We were parcticing in the mud and we had to do our dance which causes us to go in a crab position (on the back but the arms and legs still hold you up). I'm a big guy. I couldn't do that move-- the entire season. I always landed on my butt. I landed on my butt, in the mud. And then when i picked my sax back up to continue playing, the reed/mouthpiece were all muddy gonk . It was the worst practice ever!

Strike that. Code reds (see my definition in the official band dictionary thread if you don't know what that is) non-stop right before going to buffalo to play at a Buffalo Bill's game is the worst practice ever.

Every year, the drill writer tries to incorporate a set involving one section getting into a block and then rotating the whole thing. On a muddy day, it always ends up with someone slipping during the rotation.

The year before I entered, it was the low brass. A tuba eventually got dented, and a bari sax player deepthroated her mouthpiece.

My freshman year, it was the trumpets. Someone got a fat lip and a chipped tooth because he fell into the person in front of him, knocking his mouthpiece into his face.

My sophomore year, it my section: the Alto saxes and Mellophones. Our block was modified, though. It's a little difficult to explain how, because the group was broken down individually instead of working as a unit. Half would remain stationary as the other half did their footwork, and then vice versa. People usually slipped and fell when someone would run into someone who wasn't moving.

This past season, one of our songs was all a piccolo solo, and I was the soloist, and during the solo, I was center field, and the rest of the band was in a huge circle around me, and the colorguard was in a small circle inside the huge circle, and halfway through my solo, don't ask me how, one of the colorguard walked right into me, and almost knocked me down. I almost fell but I caught myself. I didn't even stop playing. This was all during a competition too. The colorguard girl was really really embarrassed.

Sadly...this happened to me. We were practicing our field show and we got to The Time Warp. ninja One of the gaurd threw up their circle metal thing and it came crashing on my head, but I kept going, no big deal right? Well...2 charts latter I got a flag right to the face that forced my Marching Baritone into my teeth...OW! The drum major stopped the band and shouted. "Are you ok?" I just nodded and was about ready to play when the director came over and took me aside. Turns out I had a minor concusion and lost 2 teeth. I swear...color gaurd is out to kill me..... sweatdrop

stressed ouch!!!!poor you ::pets::

the worst that happened to me was when i fell flat on my a** during band camp while i was backmarching. personally i thought that was simply hilarious. xp

during a competition,ne of our clarinet players got his cape caught in a trombone's slide.that really sucked sweatdrop

and this one time,one of our trumpet players was marching along during our practice just before a football game,and one of the colorguard's flags came crashing down on his head..it broke through the hat stressed

and that same trumpet player tripped over the marimba handle later in the season.he almos fell backwards but he caught onto the marimba in time..heh

I fell at our first BOA contest, but the good things is that i recovered quickly enough for anyone to notice. The only people who noticed were the ones that marched next to me. I also accidentaly ripped part of my uniform, but i don't know if they repaired it. ninja

This happened 3 years before I joined to my friend.

They were marching the championship show which was being filmed. Well, during the very last hit, the instruments stood in the form and had a horns up. That is kind of a traditional end for my marching band (watch any Nazareth show. they all end the same and I love it!). Anyway, a trombone got caught in her plume and pulled her head back, then pulled off the plume.

That wouldn't be as bad if it were not for the fact that it was on the tape!
