Sam glided back toward the mountains with Charlotte in tow. It wasn't too far a distance, but it was still long enough that Sam knew it would fall on him to take the little blond girl back once they'd rested. He wondered how everyone would react to seeing a Magescian among the clan... Probably not well. Oh, well. There was no where safer for them to relax. He rolled his shoulders and glided into his clan's territory. It wasn't as if they were going to be anywhere but his lair, either, so no one would see her except for... right now. As he was passing through. He caught a few suspicious eyes, and he watched as many of the females hunkered down in their caves to protect their nests.
Sam just shook his head and landed within the safety of his own den. "Home, sweet home!" He chuckled as he looked about. Char probably wouldn't even be comfortable here. It was all... hard, and rocky. And no food. "I doubt any Peisio's will come here." Sam told her with a grin, plopping down to enjoy his home. He eyed the girl wearily. "But, I was kinda curious what happened back there? With those Dragons? You kinda froze up, Char."

Char glanced around as they flew through the mountains. After bare-back battling, she'd pretty much gotten over her anxiousness while in the air. Of course, she felt her own wings would eventually do her an even greater justice. She didn't argue as Sam took her farther away from the ocean. Even after battling some Peisios, she wasn't feeling up to facing Kayden yet. A bit more exploring sounded like a much better option. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Drakeins in the caverns. She'd never seen so many in her life! All living together, sharing a home, and such. It was kind of nice. She didn't really think of Drakeins as being family creatures. She hardly thought of them as even having homes. But as Sam landed in one of the caves, Charlotte could practically see him relax.
The Orderite blinked and slowly slipped from Sam's back, sidling to the edge of his cave to look out and oversee everything. This was a sight she'd never beheld before. She even thought a few of the Drakeins below were even looking her way! Maybe they were friendly like Sam... "Huh?" She turned to look at the brown Drakein, eyes widened. "Y-you noticed that?" She questioned softly. She'd been certain that she only hesitated for an instant! Sam had such sharp eyes...
"Well..." Char started slowly. "It wasn't too terribly long ago... I was on my father's ship with my mother and our crew... And a big Peisio jumped right out of the water and attacked us! It... didn't end very well..." Char grumbled out half-heartedly. Sam seemed smart enough that he'd probably understand without much more explanation. Hopefully. She glanced down, twisting her fingers together. She really hated to think about what had happened. Especially around her new family. They had been so wonderful and welcoming to her... But she did miss her Da... Quite a bit.

Sam blinked in surprise at the admission. Char was... an orphan? Of course, she hadn't come right out and said it, so he could be jumping to conclusions, but somehow, he feared it was just as it seemed. She was so upbeat and spunky, though! It just seemed hard to believe that she'd lost her parents at such a young age. Shouldn't she be all... mopey, and such? "I'm, ah, sorry to hear that." Sam told her, knowing he sounded awkward and uncertain. He really didn't know how to act in situations like these, especially with two-leggers. Two-leggers especially though they could outfox death, and when they couldn't, they were exceptionally crushed...
As for Sam, he believed in the Circle of Life, and all that jazz. He'd been upset when someone he cared for passed, and sure, he'd probably wish for just a little more time, but, well, everyone died. It was sad, but true. But Char was so young... and it was both her parents at once... Poor thing. He could definitely understand her fear of the great beast they'd fought, then.
"Charlotte, I should take you back." Sam told her worriedly. "We've spent a lot of time out fighting today. You'll be able to relax more with your crew, hanging out in your room. C'mon." He plodded over to her and crouched down, fanning his wings to let her mount him.

Char should've expected an apology. That was how most people responded. Sam really wasn't that different than the Magescians. All of them were awkward and uncertain when anyone mentioned someone dying too. The little blond Orderite could only shake her head at the Drakein's silliness. Char sighed and smiled waywardly at her companion as he crouched down in front of her. "Sam. You don't have to worry about my feelings. I'm really okay right now!" She told him, giggling just a little. What a sweet guy. She couldn't deny that she would be more comfortable slipping into her bed for a nap instead of laying against these rocky surfaces... "But alright. I'll let you take me home. If you promise to visit me again, sometime!" Char retorted, hoping their wouldn't be any arguments for that.
Smiling, she flung her leg over his back again and held on for takeoff. Flight wasn't so bad when she wasn't terribly tired or afraid, or overly filled with adrenaline. Right now, she could look around and see all the sights from above... It wasn't anything she could usually do. She could even spot their shadow following them over the rocks! She waved lightly to her shadow-self with a smile. Naturally, the wave was returned. Charlotte giggled. "Hm?" She blinked and looked down, noticing an anomaly amongst the rocks. Was that... another shadow? She looked up, wondering if the sun was casting strange rays that would split their shadow into two. Or something like that... But the shadow didn't even move like them... As she surveyed the sky, she spotted them. Three large, dark brown masses.
"Sam!" She squealed. "Dragons!" Big Dragons. She shivered a little, and not just from the wind. They hadn't rested much today, and these beasts were larger than anything they'd fought so far... Charlotte suddenly doubted they could take them.

"I think I can handle that." Sam replied with a chuckle. As far as two-leggers went, Char seemed alright. Even her crew mates hadn't been particularly vicious toward him, so maybe if he was flying by and happened to spot their ship, he could head down to say hello. After she was settled, he hit the skies. Needless to say, his clan members were all too ready to see her go. Once she was gone, they could head out into the sun again and not have to worry about a little girlie stealing their eggs. What a paranoid lot. Sam shook his head in disappointment. They really could do to be a bit more open... Oh, well.
They headed back toward the ocean, with the sun warming Sam's spine in a soothing way... Soothing enough that he didn't notice the shadows himself. And Char's words of warning were dragged off by the wind. It was when he felt a gust of wind flash past that Sam halted, glancing around sharply. A Dragon hit him from below, taking his fore-claw between its teeth and dragging him downward. Sam screeched and battered the beast with his back talons until it released him, shaking its head in confusion. Sam didn't wait for it to catch his breath. He dove upward and swerved to avoid another of the beasts. How many were there? One on his tail and two below him now...

Charlotte screeched as the huge dragon dragged Sam down. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, locking her fingers together and probably strangling him. He jostled her all around trying to get himself free, and when he finally was, Char sat up to look around worriedly. Of course, she was afraid of sitting too high up, for fear that one of the beasts would come at her and knock her off. Slowly, she turned to check behind them. There was one right on their tail! She shifted ever so slightly, trying to turn her whole body around without falling from Sam's back. After getting no where being careful, she abruptly popped from his back and flipped around, so that her back was facing his head, and her torso was facing her targets. One of the dragons flew overhead, diving in front of them, but Char wouldn't let this beast catch them again! She couldn't! Feeling the sunshine fueling her magic, she cast a barrier around them. The dragon charged at them just as she cast it, but didn't stand a chance. The light split through the beast, and it burst into two orbs that flew right into Char's face.
She looked down toward the other two. "If we stay in the light, I can keep them at bay!" Charlotte shouted, her magic casting a barrier between them and the remaining beasts. Once or twice, the two remaining Gaili's would feel empowered enough to charge at her shield, and would smack into it with enough voracity to give the Orderite a jar. But she held fast, determined to make it safely back to her ship... Where only Peisios would have such an advantage. After a while, they realized that there was no hope in catching this fleeing prey, and they departed in search of easier targets.
Char was too weary to let down her shield until they landed safely on board her ship. And by then, she was exhausted. She slipped from Sam's back and flopped onto the wooden deck. Looking up at the brown Drakein, she smiled. "Thanks for all your help today, Sam." She whispered quietly. "And don't forget your promise to me!"

Sam tried to keep a balance as Char shifted around on top of him. he really wanted to take a peek at her endeavors, but knew it was safer to just keep flying straight and fast. He notions were confirmed when he had to duck to avoid having Char's treasures smack into his face. Flying low, where the Gaili dragons had already seemed like a bad idea, so it wasn't complete news to him when the Orderite told him to stick to the sunshine. He did so eagerly. Every now and then, he could feel her lurch on top of him, and wondered if he'd have to dive to save her, but after a while, all seemed quiet. Exhausted, Sam slowed to a less breakneck pace, though he was still careful to stay a safe distance from the mountains.
It wasn't long after that he was landing safely on the deck of the ship. Char fell off of him in a heap, and all Sam could do was laugh at her. He'd done all the physical work! Why should she be tired? he thought good-humoredly. "No problem." he chuckled, giving her an affectionate nudge with his claw. "If you ever need anything else, you can be sure to hunt me down. I may not be quite as talented as you, but I do think we make a decent team." Sam told her. he nodded as he remembered his promise to meet her again one day. He was sure it would happen by chance. Maybe he could get a Vlidean to send a message to her... That'd be pretty cool! Grinning, he fanned his wings and headed off back toward his home for some real rest.
