Ankou had been back a few days, both goddess and host made the decision that was enough time for him to relax and spend some time with his family. They were itching to discuss things with him, things they had learnt and other things that they wanted to learn. Val also wanted to apologise for allowing the children to go astray. She had her reasons though, as the Valkyries had theirs too. It had been for the best at the time, though with hindsight she should have told Cosine before it had got out of hand.
Alva was in charge, walking through the apartment to find the Spirit Guide's work room. She paused at the slightly open door and knocked firmly.

"Come in."
Ankou had not looked up from his work to see who it was, though Cosine and the children usually did not knock, so it was either the valkyries or Val. It would prove to be the latter, and he let down the piece of wood he had been working on and turned to face her as host and goddess came in, brushing some of the wood shavings from his clothing only as an afterthought.
"Have the both of you been well ?"

Alva slipped through the door and smiled a little. She liked this room in the apartments. It was simple, a workshop was something she could relate to much more than a library. "Yeah, not bad." She replied. "I um I hope your quest went well." She folded her arms feeling a little awkward. It was still strange being in the presence of full gods. "Did you kill the Lich King? Nath told us about him."

"Yes." He frowned, clearly not pleased with something. "I was able to destroy it completely... At the cost of the man who kept it in check ever since the heroes of Azeroth first killed him. The Lich King was a spirit, bound to a helmet, possessing hosts and keeping a tight control on his undead all the while eroding the host's psyche until it wore down to nothing." There were things Valyrmora needed to know, otherwise he might have spared poor Alva the elaboration.
"This was not a simple possession. Someone very deliberately created that creature." He frowned. "And I need to find them before they create another."

Host and goddess would frown as things were explained to them. Alva took the closest seat to where she was standing and breathed in deeply, letting her goddess take control. "Such a person would have substantial power I imagine?" She suggested. "I wonder what their goal is? They need to be made an example of." Mortals needed to know their wrath.

"Most likely." He thought quite similarly. Whoever had created the Lich King would have some very big problems to deal with, in short order.
"The books I brought back from Outland might hold the answer. I haven't asked Cosine if she found anything yet." He would much rather simply enjoy her company for as long as he possibly could get away with, first.

"When I spoke with Nath I remembered something. A prison, within the Underworld for those who had committed the worst crimes. It was a place that could hold gods as well as mortals. Taratarus it was called in the time before." She wondered if he would remember it at all, she also wondered if Nergal remembered, not that she would ever get the answer to that enigma. "You have been in the Underworld since being reborn, I want you to tell me all you know about it, maybe I can plan whilst I cannot venture there."

He had some vague recollection of what his sister spoke of, though not much in term of true remembrance. This was not a place he would have bothered to visit unless there was a need, most likely.
Underworld's actual question, however, would be an hard one. "When Nergal was active, it was still in a near constant state of flux. Not as big as it used to be." That much he was certain of. "He said... that he was the underworld. Literally." Which was an hard thing to fathom for him, honestly. "I did not get to see a whole lot of it, as I lack much free movement in there... There was a hall for a throne room, a private space for Echo and one for me... The most distant reaches I have not visited."

Val tried to picture that, he was the Underworld. It would cause her to frown, surely that was not quite right, they were Underworld, the underworld was their realm as earth and life was that of Gaia. If he had become the Underworld how could he be Underworld? "I do not understand how that can work." She admitted. "To be the place you rule over. Shape and form it yes ... but become it? Perhaps that is why he lost himself. It certainly does not seem as though his efforts were productive." A smirk formed on her host's lips. "Then again, Nergal always was one to lose his head over a woman. I remember the effort he put into Kore, no matter what the cost to the rest of us. Who cares that the dead are stacking up unjudged and ignored as long as there is a thone for his a** and a room for his queen." She stopped a moment, realising she was ranting. "Sorry, that might have been out of order."

"I cannot truly fathom it either, to be honest. So to explain it to you is difficult." But then Val went on with her rant of sorts, which was not a subject he intended to get tangled up into for too long. Better let begones be gone.
"Perhaps, but you have a right to have an opinion of the matter as well." He could not blame her for that.
"I do not remember much. From what I do remember, it is perhaps best left as such." Loneliness, work never ending, some vague detail about each valkyrie, and then his own death. That was about all he consciously remember. "There is a future I need to worry about, not the past."
It had always had been the big difference in between them. Nergal, ever looking for the past, scrambling for the puzzle pieces and ways to make them fit. And he, ever pushing toward the future, whatever it may be.

Well it was good he was a calm soul, she decided. It was hard to get carried away with things when talking to Ankou, he was a balanced individual and always appeared to speak calmly and thoughtfully. He was also right, very right. "That is a luxury I do not have at the moment." She sighed, she knew he understood, but really it was sending her insane. "There is a realm, my realm that I can remember in the past but I know nothing of in the present. I cannot affect it or shape it. I need to know what is, what it needs to become. What do i do whilst I wait?" It was as though being reborn was worse than being stuck in the gem, it was torment.

"I know." Oh, of course he knew. Though the torment had been a different one for him. The torment of being stuck in one spot, unable to move freely as he always had and always should. The torment of 'what use was a Spirit Guide for without an Underworld to guide the dead to ?' with a good side of 'what use is there to worry about all this if we do not even have a future ?' thrown in.
What use, indeed.
But there was no kind answer he could give her, for there was truly none. If only she could see what he had seen, what he could see. He could be her eyes and she could assess the situation...
Wait.
It was such a stupid little idea. "I could make you a map. Of what I know. Draw out what I have seen. Would that be useful ?"

Not a stupid idea at all. Val nodded eagerly. "That would be helpful, very helpful I think. Cosine and I found some books in the library of how the Underworld used to be. If I could see what you know, piece the two together. I can plan for when I am able to shape it once more." She felt excited at that prospect. Perhaps that would make things easier, reduce the gravity of the task that would be awaiting her when she finally had some power.

"I can do that, then." Even as he spoke, he was opening drawers and looking for something suitable to doodle and brainstorm in. A leather bound book seemed like the perfect thing, big enough to be somewhat detailed, yet small enough that his sister could carry it and refer to it whenever she wished.
"This cannot be worst than mapping out Yggdrasil, I figure." A bloody headache, that had been, though he had fond memories of the adventure.

"I imagine not" Val laughed, she could not even begin to imagine the task of mapping out the world tree.
"What's the world tree?" Alva's voice broke through, her curiosity overriding the goddess. She had not heard of it before, or the name that Ankou used. Something about it sounded familiar, the world in a tree? Didn't Iyes used to tell her stories of something similar.
