Playing the Cello - Mer was given her choice of instruments when she was young but it was the cello she fell in love with. She loves it's tall, steady structure and the deep rich notes it plays. When listening to music she can always pick the thread of the cello out beneath the rest of it and smiles. She plays in the student orchestra at DCU, first chair, and also leads and after school class at Crystal and arranged performances for those students at various occasions. Mary Margaret also loves to compose music. Often she does this on a piano but occasionally she'll compose a cello concerto.
Horseback Riding - Nothing makes Mer feel more alive than to be dashing along the trail on the back of a horse. She loves the feeling of the wind whipping through her hair and the sound of the steady hoofbeats in her ears. She often goes to the local stables and rents horses to ride on the weekends for just such a thrill. Horse shows, too, delight her. Though she doesn't much care for rodeos or that sort of thing. She considers it cruelty but she can't place exactly why she thinks so.
Meditation - Meri is of the school of thought that if something is wrong with the mind the body suffers for it. She believes that balancing the mind can being back a sound body and promote better health. She spends one hour in the morning meditating and one at night when she can. She's sort of new age like that. She'll buy books about it at book stores and sometimes go on weekend retreats or to spas for just such purposes. She wants to promote good health of the body and the mind.
Virtues:
Patient -- It takes a lot to get Meri riled up. She stays calm in most every situation from finding a spider in her bathroom to unruly children. She doesn't raise her voice and doesn't fly of the handle. However long it takes to wait out the storm or to get something right is fine by her.
Affectionate -- Mer has no trouble letting the people in her life know that she considers them important. Being a teacher it would be hard not to. Each year the children get under her skin and its hard to let them go. She is happy to hug (hugs are free) and will greet people with hugs and kisses and is ok holding hands when with friends or even cuddling together in a group. Contact - that's how you make an impact in this world.
Optimistic -- The world is sunshine and rainbows. One person can make a difference. These are things Meri holds to in her life. She wears her optimism like a cloak protecting her from the ugly things of the world. She wants to see the good in all things, looking for the best in people and giving them the benefit of the doubt until otherwise proven. She doesn't make snap judgments about people or harbor negative thoughts about them without proof. Everyone in the world has some good in them.
Flaws:
Fragile -- Despite her good intentions and her rosy outlook on life Mer is a bit fragile. Though she wants to see the best in people when they prove her wrong she takes this personally and can blame herself. She'll wonder how she didn't see it and will spend hours, even days, pouting or trying to puzzle out how she could have missed it. She also takes insults personally to the same results wondering how people could be so mean or why they would say such things about her not really considering that some people are just jerks or want to get a rise out of her. She'll think they're sincere and it will hurt her deeply.
Holds a Grudge -- She gives a lot of chances but if somehow you manage to break Meri don't expect to ever get back on her good side. She will hold a grudge to death if necessary. If someone proves they can't be trusted or don't have good intentions she feels no need to associate with those people and will snub them in public or tell anyone that cares to ask why she doesn't like this person. She'll be frank about her thoughts and won't hide them and won't even consider changing her mind even if someone tries to tell her she's wrong about her judgment.
Stubborn -- Mer is hard to sway from what she thinks. When people tease her about her New Age notions she laughs them off even if they have proof of what they're saying. It's the same way with her opinions on a variety of other subjects as well. She won't take anyone's word for something that contradicts her own no matter the thought behind it, the proof presented, or the quality of the relationship she enjoys with that person. The only opinion that matters is her own.
