 Where... How did he get here? This wasn't the glade he'd come to call 'home'. Shaking himself, tossing his great horned head, Fear pawed at the soft ground, and peered about... and froze. Before his eyes, in the darkness, there was something that looked suspiciously like blood. It seemed to be all over, and there were even a few small animal skulls nearby, stained with the 'blood'. Funny, he couldn't remember going on a hunt. Upon closer inspection, he found the faltering hoofprints of a kimeti, and frowned slightly; he lifted his head, and peered about, and spotted his familiar, his closest and only friend, a large golden eagle. "Come down here, Dead Eyes, and rest upon my back. I may have need of you if this is what I think it is..." his voice was rather deep, even for a totoma, and seemed to echo in his chest; if he rose his voice in song, he might have a lovely call. The black and white eagle shrieked in response, spreading its powerful wings before moving down to alight on his back, soothingly touching the male's horns with his beak. Turning his attention back to the bloody patches and skulls, Fear began to follow those faltering hoofprints, his eagle helping him every so often. It spotted them when they were too faint for the totoma to see, and flee ahead to show him where to go... However... they soon came upon a massive wall of thorns, covered in more of the blood, and it seemed as if they'd soaked up even more, because they glinted with it. Through the vines, the totoma could see the path ahead; however... he couldn't simply go around. The trees grew too thick, and had too many vines. Sending his companion up ahead, the totoma tossed his head, and made ready to charge. Ouch! Wincing at the pain in his maw, Abandons Fear backed up slowly, glaring at the viciously thorned plant. He sat still, mouth wide, and used his tongue to push out the thorns, frowning a bit. He'd have to be a bit more careful; circling around, mouth free of thorns once more, the totoma made ready to go at it again. AGAIN with the thorns in the mouth! Growling softly, this time the mad buck gritted his teeth, and began to chew up the thorns, pawing at the ground, and rearing up slightly. He wanted so desperately to just... charge. He snorted, and, eyes narrowing, the buck made ready to try it again. With a sudden burst of strength, Abandons Fear surged forward, head lowered, those curved horns and his armored face leveled at the vines that had given him such trouble. His horns and faceplate crunched through the thorns, tearing a hole in the rope-like plant, leaving a massive hole as he pressed on, carrying himself forward until he saw moonlight once more, and his path was clear before him. Snorting, the buck lifted his head, smirking slightly, and then glanced over his shoulder as he felt his companion alight on his back once more. As the bird began to pick stray thorns from his shaggy hide, Fear turned his attention back to the path before him. It wasn't long before the buck came upon a shallow stream, and, although murky, it doesn't seem deep. Without hesitation, the buck stepped into the creek, and began across. About halfway through, though, he felt a sharp n** on his ankle, and snarled, stomping. Then it happened again, a little harder, and he paused, peering at the water a bit curiously. A pike launched itself a short way out of the water, aiming for his face, which he turned so the thing hit his horn. Tch. A glancing blow on the pike's tail was scarcely anything the Totoma could brag about, especially when the fish whirled around and bit him on the ankle, harder this time. A much better strike! That time, the totoma's broad hoof came down square on the fish's back, and it began to swim a bit oddly. Still, it managed to get in another quick, hard bite. "Little pain in the hoof... just die already..." Fear grunted, and reared up, trying once more with both hooves. There was definitely blood in the water; Fear may have broken the fish's spine, because it was hardly swimming now. Better to put it out of its misery quickly; he lifted up one hoof, and aimed at its head; it wouldn't be able to get out of the way. That... may have been overkill. Abandon shook off his hooves, and started to clean them in the murky waters quickly before moving out onto shore and shaking himself off. That had certainly been messy, and he swore he'd gotten fish-teeth- stuck in the soft part of his hooves. He'd have to ask one of the does to pull them out for him later. Turning his attention forward, and making sure his eagle was still on his back, Fear frowned. When had such a steep hill gotten before him? THAT was much better. He found an easy enough path, and started climbing up quickly. He made it up about a fourth of the way, and paused as he abruptly fixated on a root... with blue-green fur on it, in a patch. It seemed very familiar to him... Finally! Abandons Fear breasted the top of the ravine, and tumbled onto relatively level ground, his eagle squawking in protest and nipping at him. He landed nearly touching something... more of that blood... no. No it wasn't blood. It smelled vaguely familiar, and more like plants than animal-like. And then the hot rush of breath against his fur. With a shriek, Dead Eyes drove back a boar, and allowed Abandon to get up, lunging forward to bite at the boar; his eagle took wing, as well, and dove at the boar. The boar managed to get her tusks into Abandon's shoulder, underneath the armor there, and gave him a nasty gash there. His horned head, however, struck true, and the boar collapses, stunned for a moment, shivering and grunting... before his eagle's claws sank into the boar's hide deeply, and he bit her hard, before soaring away.
