The sun had just begun its assent into the sky, barely cresting the horizon that morning. The sounds of the night bugs were slowly fading away to be replaced one by one by the sounds of the early risers. Birds voices greeted the sun with such eagerness it was hard to believe they didn't manage to wake the whole valley with their ceaseless cheerfulness.

The air was still cool, as the sun hadn't managed to heat it up just yet, but it was this morning that Tau would discover some of his personal belongings...were missing. His headdress, the jars of his body paint...gone. Now when they had gone missing was still up for debate. Hadn't he just seen them yesterday? Or was it longer than that? Regardless of how long such items had been gone he would soon learn that other items from the household were gone.

It is all quite disturbing as no one recalls hearing anyone break in during the night. The only unusual sign being some large tracks belonging to a large three toed clawed creature. Perhaps someone had used an animal to cart off the goods?

[You may elaborate what items were stolen through your response, other homes have been hit by this strange burglar and you may include them in your writing as well.]

The sun had just risen high enough to hit Tau's bedroom window, and Tau couldn't care less. He had his covers up over his head; the rest of his body dangling out below it, sprawled to their fullest extent and partially hanging off of the small twin-size bed. He would have kept sleeping too if it wasn't for the rising voices in the house.

He grumbled and tossed and turned, throwing the pillow over his head and trying as hard as he could to go back to sleep. But the voices wouldn't. Shut. Up. He tossed the blankets and bedding off of himself and stumbled to his feet, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and yawning as grumpily as he could manage. He opened one eye and peeked out at his brother's bed and found it to be empty. Well that was odd. Usually his little brother was sleeping right there with Tau so early in the morning that it was strange to not see him there. Footsteps pounded out against the floor, sounding little and like his kid brother's. Maybe he could still get back to sleep if he could make the rest of the house be quiet and considerate of his needs for once. He reached over to grab his headdress from the table near his bed, but only reached empty space. What? He looked over, more awake now and noticed his headdress and paints were gone. He huffed. He hadn't been wearing so much of them lately and the last time he had worn the headdress was days ago, but he knew he saw them yesterday. Or maybe it was yesterday... He couldn't quite recall.

His thoughts went back to the footsteps he had heard earlier. Taye had probably taken them both. He grumbled and stomped out of the room, practically running to the family room. Both of his parents were there, as well as Taye, but his things weren't with him. He looked quizzically at the group standing in the room before he noticed that his weren't only things taken. The kitchen ware that was usually hung above the fire place was gone, his father's hammer, and some of the small furniture was all missing. That's... a little weird. "Did we have a yard sale that I didn't know about?" Of course he wasn't being serious, but they had to have done something with it.

It was then that he realized that his house wasn't the only house talking so early in the morning. He scratched his head a little confused. Had he been robbed? Had his village been robbed?

A commotion was building outside, it seemed that others were waking up to discover they too had been hit by this mysterious thief. People were shouting this way and that, reporting short and long lists of what was missing from their homes. A knock on the door of their home announced someone coming to gather information about what was missing from their homes. He casually explained what was happening and how everyone was rather dismayed as they couldn't find any signs of break and enter and that the only foot prints belonged to something not human.

Another strange piece of evidence was that some of the homes had a few feathers on the ground, outside or inside it didn't matter. Nothing really added up. Feathers? Three toed claw marks in the earth? The more bizarre thing being that nothing of...real value was really stolen from any of the homes. Beads were taken, pots, pans, utensils, tools...nothing really added up. It was more like it was a compulsive behavior and they took whatever was shiny enough to warrant their attention. Good thing the theft hadn't been in the day, else a lot more things probably would have been taken.

One item in particular had a woman sobbing as it was an ornamental comb; though it didn't hold any real value it was passed down in her family for generations and she had hoped to pass it down to her daughter when she wed.

The man had explained all this with a tired look on his face as people were clamoring for his attention to make sure nothing was missed on his list of missing items.

"We don't think this person is dangerous...just...disturbed...don't worry I'll report what you're missing and we'll see about sending out a search party."

Tau patted down his hair and grumbled as someone came to knock on the door. Apparently, it was a disturbed person who was taking all of these things. His parents nodded and spoke among themselves, starting to make a list of things that were stolen that they could recall at least; Tau had a hard time believing that even his mother would know exactly where everything was in the house to be able to know if it was stolen or just moved.

Tau spoke up from the rest, eyeing the guy who had come with his list of thefts and crossed his arms. "Well, whoever it was, they took my stuff. And I want it back. Where can I sign up for this search party?" Tau was a little more than peeved that his paints had been stolen. He had worked long and hard to make and buy those paints just for them to get swiped.

He looked down at his appearance before looking a little sheepish and coughing a bit. Right, he was still in his PJs... "After I change of course."

The man looked to Tau as if surprised by his interest in looking for this person; himself looking a bit sheepish to have mentioned it as nothing concrete had been discussed about actually locating the thief.

"Ah, well we are still making lists of what is missing." He continued with a slight nod of his head; obviously that was more important than tracking down the culprit. Actually he didn't even seem that bothered that there was some weird person wandering around stealing odds and ends of things. In fact, it beginning to sound like if Tau wanted to find his things promptly he would need to go off himself, otherwise it could take all day for the village to organize the search party.

Jotting down what Tau's mother was missing, he gave another 'hmmm' and 'hrrrm' and fluffed up as if trying to believe how important his task was. "If you discover any evidence about who it could be, or if you have any information, please do alert us." He continued before he turned to leave. It looked like if Tau wanted anything done promptly he would need to do it himself.

Tau huffed and crossed his arms and seemed to be pouting about the whole thing. This guy was no help. Probably didn't know a thing about what was going on. He blew a piece of hair out of his face before taking a deep breath in and pushing out his chest. "Well, I guess I'm gonna have to go out there myself." He wasn't particularly directing his words toward anyone, but he looked at his little brother in the eye before nodding his head in affirmation and stomping to his room to throw on clothes. As much as he wanted his things back, there was no way he was going out in PJs.

After stalking back through the house and near slamming the door, Tau looked around the village. What would be a good place to start? Where would someone break in from if they were going to steal from a person's house? Well, it wasn't really breaking in. There was nothing stopping someone from just opening the door and walking right in, but most people had a common respect for each other. What was this world coming to really? Tau shook his head and pulled himself back out of his thoughts. He had business to take care of.

He walked around to the back of his house and looked around the back door area. Maybe this would be the way they had gotten inside? Tau searched for anything that could have been moved or left a mark and by chance happened to look to the floor. Tau eyed a strange footprint in the soft sand near the back of the house. Well, that looked promising.

There didn't seem to be any sort of 'forced' entry, though there were scraps near the door handles and long grooves or talon marks on the ground. Either the person who was lock picking was very new at the trade or just didn't care whether or not their endeavors were noticed but they didn't succeed in this manner. A small window however looked as if it had been pushed inwards, a few things knocked over..

The strange grooves were actually tracks, and though the earth was dry there were some spots where the foot prints were plainly visible and easy to see. Though it looked as if there was more than one set of them. Perhaps the intruder had brought animals with them to carry off their loot?

In any case they circled around the house, found a way in and made off with their treasures. If he looked very carefully the foot prints all lead away from the home and towards the open fields. Whatever made the tracks must have been fairly large as their foot prints could be found quite easily.

[Tau may track these prints into a small forested area. Thin trees struggle to grow and could hardly be called a 'forest'. There are piles of strange..items laying everywhere, including the things stolen from Tau's home. He may try and retrieve these items, but if he does he will be met with a rather ornery male Scorra. You may write up until meeting with the Scorra.]

Tau scratched his head, slightly confused at what he was seeing in front of him. It looked a little like a mess. What, was a six year old breaking into houses now? It was a little unheard of, but it wouldn't be the weirdest thing he could think of. He had heard rumors of a surly guy to the east that was stuck in a Fire Bird nest for days, being groomed by the momma herself. How true that was, he didn't know, but whatever.

Well, he had never tracked before, but it couldn't be too hard, now could it? He looked down at the trampling footprints around the outside of the house window and followed the line of sight out and into the forest. It looked like that was where he was going then. He puffed up his chest with a large intake of breath and prepared for whatever it was he would find before half marching into the forest.

He wasn't very good at this whole tracking thing though. He wasn't much for adventuring, and he continually lost sight of the tracks, constantly distracted by sounds and sights in the forest. He continued to wonder if he was ever going to get there when he finally reached what looked like a sorry excuse for a forest. He looked up at the scraggly trees and scoffed at the comparison of his own forest in his head. But the center of the forest is what caught his attention. It was a messy sort of pile, but the things his eyes zoned in on couldn't be mistaken. His paints! He furrowed his brows as he looked around for the thief. He had half a mind to shout out to him, wanting him to know that he was caught and that he was going to have to get used to eating with a straw after Tau was done with the guy.

But he just huffed angrily and stomped forward toward the things. It was going to take a while to haul it all back to the town, but he would at least grab his things before he left on the first trip. If he was lucky he would come face to face with the jerk who started this all.

He was halfway between the pile of things and his starting position in the forest when he heard an angry honk from behind. He quizzically turned, coming face to face with an angry looking scorra. Oh.

The rather large bird was brightly plummaged, and seemed to know just how handsome he looked. Fluffing out his feathers to perhaps look more intimidating (or impressive depending on your mind set) before opening its beak and uttering a mix of a shriek and hiss. It didn't like Tau being here, didn't like that Tau was messing with its shinies. It needed them to impress females so how dare this strange creature try and steal them from him!

The large bird advanced but didn't seem keen on combating with Tau, it could ruin its lovely feathers if he fought. And what if ladies came about? What if they saw him all ruffled up? Or worse missing some of his lovely plumes!?

No the scorra wouldn't attack just yet, but it certainly wasn't going to let Tau take anything from its horde. Continuously looking threatening, hissing and blocking the boys path from the objects it had decided were worth protecting.

Tau gawked at the scorra standing and honking in front of him. Well, he guessed he wasn't going to just be able to take the things now was he? It opened itself up and fluffed, looking bigger and brighter and more impressive than it already was and Tau had to scratch at his chin in thought. He was hoping that this would be a quick "get in get out" operation, but it wasn't to be. At least he knew what it was that was taking everything from the homes, and that would explain why it looked like a drunk ten year old was breaking in in the first place.

But - Tau had come here for a reason. And he wasn't going to let some showy bird get the better of him. He scoffed and tried to puff himself up, looking mean and menacing. He grabbed a branch off of the ground and swung it in front of the bird. "Shoo!" He barked out, trying his best to sound like he was authoritative enough to get the bird to obey.

It probably wasn't the best thought through plan, but Tau was better at doing than planning. He smacked the branch against the ground to make some noise and hopefully get the bird to go away.

You could almost believe that the scorra was giving him a unimpressed look as it was told to 'shoo'. Giving another hissing like cry it fluffed its feathers out again trying to look as menacing as it could. Of course upon closer inspection that beak did look quite wicked...and so did its clawed toes. As if trying to call a bluff it flapped its wings and gave a small charge forward, pulling back at the last moment and being only a few feet away as if hoping to cow the young man who was encroaching on its territory.

Tau surveyed the scene, wondering what it was he was going to have to do to get the bird to just go away. Or at least just let him take his things until he could get backup. He wasn't ready to let his possessions go for a second time after taking up all of this trouble to find them.

Well, if the scorra wanted to be rough, Tau would call his bluff. He smacked the branch against the ground again and rustled the remaining leaves to make noise. The scorra charged closer to him and backed away once again, so Tau followed suit. He charged forward, half growling half yelling as he did so, trying to scare the bird away. He waved the stick close to the bird, daring even to get it within reach to touch it if he wanted to before backing away again. If it was a match the bird wanted, it was a match he would get. Tau would get his things.

The scorra did actually seem startled at the fact that Tau had run up to him growling. Giving a squawk it flapped its small wings involuntarily and took a small step back. Raising its head high as if making itself the tallest creature around it gave another hiss and shifted its weight before it took another step forward.

Around them all there seemed to be random trinkets, plates, spoons...even some shiny pieces of armor and was that a lance? How on earth would a creature like this be able to drag something like that all this way? There were small weapons about as well, clumped together with all the rest of the shinies. In fact...the intelligence of the bird was apparent as it was able to discern color, shape and size not to mention place them in orderly piles.

As the bird stepped forward it managed to step on a branch, which raised up and knocked one of the closer items off its perch causing it to tumble away from the group. Pausing you could almost see the wheels turning in its head. Deal with the trespasser? or....the fact its shiny was no longer in the right spot? A moment went by before the bird went for the shiny and carefully plucked it up and returned it to its rightful place before confronting Tau again.

Tau blinked at the bird's attention to where it put it's treasure. Who would have thought that birds could have been smart? Not Tau at least. He stood with the large branch in his hands like an idiot before he began to process what he was seeing. He took a look around and saw what neat orderly piles everything was in. Color, shape, size, all of it seemed to matter to the strange scorra in front of him.

Tau pushed forward another time for good show before reaching out with his foot and kicking a shining cup away from the pile and a distance away from the both of them. It was a test and he was waiting to see what the reaction would be. In the meantime, he was eyeing that lance. Spears were more his cup of tea, but a lance would work.

The bird gave a sharp squawking hiss of surprise and annoyance, you could tell it was insulted by the fact Tau dare touch its shinies, but now said shiny was too far from its grouping. Far enough it almost touched another grouping! a**l retentive the bird completely ignoring Tau for the most part darted forward and to where the cup landed.

It circled its fallen treasure as if trying to make sure no undo damage had occurred to it. This of course seemed to take it a long time, as it circled gently picked up the cup with its beak and then turned it over to make sure that the other side was good as well. A perfect opportunity if there ever was one to grab your stuff and RUN for it.

The bird wasn't too stupid though, it would stop in its inspection every couple of seconds to stare Tau down as if to make sure that he hadn't moved yet...though this only slowed down its own agenda immensely.
