Mystique hummed to herself as she headed out behind her cottage where her easel was set up beside the lake. She didn't have anywhere to be today, the best kind of days, and she was trying to improve upon her landscapes. Unfortunately, she found landscapes rather boring...which was why she was coming back outside after getting her fifth glass of iced tea. Sighing, she flicked her finned tail to the side and sat, staring out over the lake to the redwoods beyond.
Myst forced herself to practice her landscape techniques for three hours a day. She really did want to get better at them, but when she didn't do as well as she hoped, she was more likely to make excuses...thus the three hours. At worst she'd get at least an hour of actual painting in.
Picking up her brush, she set to trying to get the sun to sparkle off the lake's ripples the right way. She checked her watch and sighed again. She still had half an hour before she could stop the landscape and go swimming. An hour for her to hope that something would happen to tear her away from her self inflicted torture.

"Hmm..." Zephyria kicked her feet as she sat on a branch. It was a rather lovely day. 'Perfect for a swim.' She thought, looking out toward the distance. She sighed and slide from the branch, and with the help of her wings she landed safely. She looked about and picked a direction and started walking, for now she was tired of being in the air and longed to be splashing in the cool water. She walked for a while, a breeze picked up and she lifted her nose to it. She smelt water. Nice. Cold. Water. Her pace quickened as she navigated through the thick redwood. Her tail wagged behind her as the trees started to thin and she saw glistening on the horizon. Water! Sweet glorious water! Even better! It was a lake! Zeph didn't bother to look around before flopping on the edge of the lake. She splashed her face, and giggled. The cool water was refreshing after her her flight. She sighed to herself and continued to splash her hands in the water.

Myst put the finishing touches on a ripple before she heard the splishing that was going on behind her. Turning, she saw another girl sitting at the edge of the water and splashing around in the lake. Eh, it was close enough to the time of stopping her practice. Myst dropped her bush in the mason jar and headed to the new person and smiled down at her. "Hey there. I'm Mystique. Are you enjoying my lake?" She laughed.

Zeph froze when she heard the other. She looked up, then immediately sat up. "I-I'm so sorry. I didn't realize that this was your lake." She blushed bright red. Then Zeph realized that the other, Mystique, was laughing! She must not be mad. With that thought in mind Zeph stood up.
"You have a beautiful lake, and yes, I was enjoying it." She smiled as well, and was too embarrassed to say that she couldn't swim. Zeph looked around and noticed there was much more around than the lake. Perhaps she should look before she jumped next time.

"Don't worry, dear, I don't mind. The lake is for everyone to enjoy, I'm just teasing you." Myst smiled and looked out over the lake. It really was pretty, this girl had good tastes in landscapes.
Turning, Myst held her hand out, "Hey, I'm Mystique Santorini. It's nice to meet you, miss...?"

Zeph blushed even more when she found out she was being teased. "Pleasure! My name Zephyria. You can call me Zeph, if you want too." She gingerly shook the hand of the other. "Do you live here?" Her eyes rested on the cabin. She figured someone must live there, it was very well kept and quite lovely. Though, in the back of her mind she thought a shabby shack could be there and it still look nice because of the surroundings.

"Zeph, you can call me Myst. I know my name is a bit of a mouthful sometimes. And yeah, I live here. This has been my home since my parents left it to me." She looked around and smiled at the beautiful lake, noting the ripples that Zeph had left at the edge of the water.
"So, I saw you playing in the water earlier, did you want to go swimming? It's awfully hot today and I was planning on taking a dip myself so if you want to join me, that's totally cool." Myst offered.

"Its very lovely." Zeph had a large smile on her face. "I'm sorry if I interrupted you." Once Myst mentioned swimming her tail wiggled behind her. "Oh yes! I would. I love the water." She nodded toward the lake. "That's what drew me here in the first place." Zeph sat on the edge of the lake and looked into the water, looking for a shallow spot. Once she found it she did a hokey-pokey-esque dance before she got it. She put a toe in and took it out, then back in and shook it about.
It was the prefect depth for her. She slide in and at in the water, it only reach up to neck, and that was sitting. The water felt nice and cool. "Ahhh... Perfect~" She smiled and let out a relaxed sigh. While waiting for the other she splashed her face with the water. She was always too nervous to stick her head under, in fear she wouldn't resurface.

"Not at all. I was just finishing my painting, actually." She watched the other girl dance around the coolness of the water before sitting neck deep. "I'll be right back with towels." Myst called, heading inside and grabbing two towels. She also made a quick change into a tank top and some shorts. She didn't have swim gear, exactly, but this outfit wouldn't scare her guest away. at least.
Coming back out, Myst say Zeph in the exact same spot. The aquatic slid into the water, barely noticing the cool, and padded over to Zeph. "Aren't you going to swim? Or were you waiting for me?"

Zeph wasn't exactly waiting for the other. "Of course I'm going to swim!" She stared into the water and wiggled closer to the deeper parts of the lake. She was now standing and the water was barely up to her neck. She was rather tense, she rarely ever went this deep into water.

Myst paddled around and waited for Zeph to join her...but noticed the other was just walking in the water and not swimming. Also, the other girl was terribly tense. "Um...I hate to sound nosy but...can you swim Zeph?" Myst had been swimming all her life that sometimes she forgot that others didn't know how. "I can teach you if you can't."Sorry I took so long. When Myst asked her if she could swim, Zeph's cheeks went a light pink. She looked away for a second. "I-I can't swim." She was rather embarrassed by this fact. Even more so sense she loved playing in the water. "But.. I also kind of have a fear if going in to deep. I saw something in the water and I tried to save it, it swam toward the surface so I was able to grab it and bring it to land... but I was too late. It died." She became sullen. She never learned about fish, and that they live in the water. But she perked a little when Myst offered to teach her. "Really? I really would like to learn!" The pink in her cheeks became a little deeper. She was nervous and excited.Understandable <3
