Fortunately lacking power didn't mean they lacked GAS. Bix's kitchen stove was one of those old gas ranges and all it required was a match to get it going when the pilot wouldn't click to light. In one pot was boiling in water. In another was a jar of tomato sauce he'd dumped in to warm up. He'd been experimenting with making his own but without the tomatoes he decided just to season it with a few dried herbs he'd stashed in the cabinet.
As usual his door was cracked and the picture of Green Arrow stared challenging down the hallway. The odd heated smell of boiling pasta and cooking tomato sauce was surely drifting out. Without power Bix had all of his 2 windows wide open for the sunlight but... it was sort of a cave in there and he was backlit like some sort of pale food-making spectre.
