I'm sure some of you have heard about this as it was revealed last year. However the guild doesn't have anything on it so I'll bring it up now. Last year around this exact time Konami's President approached Hideo Kojima in directing Silent Hill 9. For those of you who don't know Kojima by name he is the famed creator of the Metal Gear franchise. Hideo Kojima did show interest in directing and even if he doesn't he did claim he would be happy to help by lending out his new graphical engine called the FOX engine to whoever develops the game. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Hideo Kojima will be able to pull off Silent Hill as well as he does Metal Gear? Do you think the series is in good hands going to a Japanese developer? And for those who think present games have been lacking do you think Kojima will be able to return the series to its former glory?

He might, you know for someone who knows and created games about war, pain, torture-mental and physical.
Hideo writes good storyline, touching and sad.
I would be surprise if Hideo did try to make a new silent hill as I would have never expected him to direct a silent hill game.
To me silent hill is about the dark side of the world with monsters and stuffs. To show the subconscious nature of a human being's mind and the many manifestations that brings symbolism to silent hill.
I would like to see Hideo create a silent hill game, it would be interesting.

Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear series is my favorite of all time. The last few games have been lacking the strength the first 4 did and I think he'd do It justice,ESPECIALLY with the fox engine

I've never played a MG game; but I have hope Hideo will do alright.
I mean, they hand off SH to different companies all the time since Origins, so I don't see a problem with this. Of course I'll buy it, beat it, and love it just like I have with the past SH's!

We share a very similar opinion of SH games "Of course I'll buy it, beat it, and love it just like I have with past SH's!"

I watched a buddy of mine in high school play a couple of the MG games after school a couple times. They tell pretty amazing stories, so if Hideo did work on Silent Hill... I would gladly place money down that he will give us an outstanding silent hill experience.

Going through this discussion has made me excited because it got me thinking. I don't know if anyone else has been following MGS5 coverage but there are some striking things that I'm excited about that are in it that could make the next Silent Hill an amazing entry. Firstly if Hideo uses his news ideas from MGS5 and incorporates them into his future works than that means not only will we get the amazing graphic power of the fox engine but we will also get an open-world Silent Hill game. Now I know Downpour was somewhat open world and as much as I loved the game I thought it could have been bigger. MGS is going open world, imagine what Silent Hill would be like going open world. For MGS5 Kojima stated it was to give players more choices in how they use the environment or go about obtaining objectives. Imagine in Silent Hill, instead of having a road randomly torn from reality or a locked door that forces you to take a select route from destination to destination you could control what route you would want to take. I'll do an example, say you were at the apartments in SH2 and you had to go to the Hospital. Now in the game itself we know it's a linear path through Rosewater Park, Pete's Bowl-O-Rama and through Heaven's Night just to get there. Fast forward to SH9, "I want to get to Brookhaven but that route seems dangerous. Hey look a loose door I can probably knockdown and go through this building safely!" or "maybe I can break this window and sneak in." Dear Valtiel with Hideo Kojima's new technology and the next generations of game consoles out now the possibilities are endless and never have I been so excited for what is to come next in our quiet town.

Gameplay wise it was far from the best but I gotta say I loved Peace Walker's story. To each their own though! biggrin

I think Silent Hill could be very interesting from an open world perspective, but at the same time I think there's more to why Silent Hill is the way that it is for a reason. While it seems logical one should be able to scout out the best route (hell yea on the triple rhyme!), Silent Hill's atmosphere is almost more complimented by a system which forces the player to proceed. For example, consider the following situations:

Ex 1) You are walking down an alleyway when begin to hear loud white noise, perhaps the screen blurring a bit. Up ahead you see a large shadowy figure blocking your path. You begin to panic thinking there is no way out. Suddenly a window to your left looks breakable, you shatter the glass and climb through making a clean escape with no reason to fret after all.

Ex 2) You are walking down an alleyway when begin to hear loud white noise, perhaps the screen blurring a bit. Up ahead you see a large shadowy figure blocking your path. You begin to panic thinking there is no way out. You proceed to walk forward trying every door and window you pass, but none of them allow you entry. As you are drawing closer and closer the noises grow louder, the creature begins moving towards you, or perhaps shambling towards you. It is now within reach and screams a high, shrill noise that could curdle blood. Luckily, right as you think you're about to die a cutscene shows of the siren sounding and the creature disappears.

Just little things like that, I think, make the difference in Silent Hill's atmosphere. Another thing is, Silent Hill is almost a living being unto itself. The route it makes the player take is basically a pre-designed trial the town has conjured up for the character.

And one last thing to end this horribly disorganized ramble lol. Without a set path, think about how we never would have had the awesome build up to the long hallway scene with James, the different trials of Silent Hill 4, or any other good example.

Indeed sir, I think Hideo has an unbelievable release on his hands. I say it a lot about games but rarely ever do, but I might genuinely pay this game off on a pre-order.
