Sauti still had a cool mist hanging in the air, the day not quite started yet. The sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon and the capramel were starting to stir and create noise in the fields. The days were already starting to cool, even though it was only slightly, and no doubt given a couple more months, most of the animals would begin to hide in their warm homes, as well as the Earthlings. Even the nomads would buckle down for the winter, or leave Sauti.

The cycle of the seasons also brought about a work cycle. No doubt summer was a slow time for all craftsmen, being the hottest and hot days were days that people usually didn’t like to be out in the sun. And pockets seemed to heat and shrivel up as well.

A group of men entered the town, speaking to those in the village before finally stopping at Viveka’s door. With a gentle knock, these older men waited for the other side to answer.

Viveka had risen early, as he had always done, and hovered over his cooling cup of tea. Natsu was still asleep in a rather amusing sprawled out position while Rastian, whom he had checked on, had managed to fall asleep in an upright position in his bed. The ice boy snickered at how adorable they looked when they weren't so "animated" and padded his way towards the kitchen. It was really just a large space filled with barrels, jugs, and satchels of food, water, and other necessary items for day to day life, but it worked just the same as the kitchen he had back in Zena.

He had just about finished a plate of berries and grain when a sudden knocking sound ran through the room. Amber eyes froze and darted towards Natsu's room and then to Rastian's, before they relaxed. Ah, good, they hadn't been stirred. He stood, dusted himself off, and went to greet whoever was at the door.

"Good morning, neighbors!" He chirped, smiling towards the group of men before him. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

The group of men, all wind tribe members, seemed to be scanning Viveka up and down, like they were dissecting him piece by piece and it looked like most of them didn't like what they saw already. Their faces were aged, and they didn't outright show their disdain, but they shifted their weight from one foot to the other, or pursed their lips slightly, some small notion that gave away their feelings.

One man, the man who had knocked, came forward from the group and greeted Viveka. "Hello Young Man." He seemed to pause slightly at young, as if this was the issue on everyone's mind. He gestured to the small group of about 7 men. "We are from Tinerr, we've been traveling through the neighboring settlements looking for a sculptor we can hire for work. Sadly, our town of Tinerr has only one fine sculptor and he is currently nursing a broken arm. Bad for business, really, and causing us to go elsewhere. Rayf and Liem were our first stops, but since we're here, you can guess that they couldn't provide any help." He paused, himself assessing Viveka. "After asking around, it seems like you're our only choice at this point."

The others of the group eyed each other, as if not sure that this boy was up to the task. The seeming leader of the group started to speak again. "Are you free? What are your qualifications?"

Viveka paused as the man spoke and his anxieties fluctuated between excitement and "OH s**t" rather harshly. They were looking for a sculptor because their usual guy broke his arm? How terrible! And they couldn't find anyone else by HIM to take his place? He smiled, though nervously, and nodded.

"I... I sculpted a full body of my mother in one night!" He stammered, before blushing. "Not to brag or anything! She passed away a long time ago and I wanted to give her a proper statue instead of a dismal tombstone!" He paused, taking a breath for his nerves. "And I'm certainly free! I would love to be of use to you, if I can!"

The sun was already starting to heat and disperse the mist that was hanging in the air, preparing for a rather warm day. The men were dressed in traveling wear, carrying all of their things they would need with them and being rather hot and somewhat itchy, they were more than ready to get out of the sun's growing beams.

They looked back and forth to each other, silently communicating before answering back to Viveka. Most had amused faces of disbelief and the others had stern faces of dismay. This will probably not be the guy they're looking for. The leader of the group coughed to clear his throat before beginning again. "We see you have an inn of sorts with accommodations enough for the group of us. We'll be resting up, please meet us at noon. We'll discuss it there over refreshments."

Before waiting for an answer, the men turned and retreated from Viveka, whispering amongst themselves and heading in the direction of the inn they were speaking of.

Viveka leaned against the doorway as the men wandered away and appeared rather breathless. HOLY s**t, HE WAS THE ONLY SCULPTOR AVAILABLE?! When the ******** did word spread that he could sculpt, anyway!? He closed the door slowly and began to pace back and forth. Okay, okay, okaaaaay, cool it down, Veka, cool it doooown. He would just have to roll with it. He couldn't let these men down!

B..But there were seven of them! THAT'S HUGE! He cowered as he mulled over the sheer amount of people who would be critiquing him, barking orders at him, and shuffling him about, it was making him dizzy! He thumped about the kitchen for the remainder of the morning, while Natsu and Rastian managed to sleep in to his dismay, and at last gathered all of his supplies and left for the inn.

He shuffled forward and smiled kindly to all those around him while he kept an eye out for the men who had asked for him. He hoped they were still here after all the trouble they went through...

The group of men had changed out of their traveling gear and were now sitting at a far table at the inn's kitchen, talking among themselves and motioning with their hands as they discussed what VIveka could only guess at. They had drinks around them and seemed to be much more lively than they had directly after traveling. It looked like the old men had gotten their second wind.

The one who had spoken to Viveka earlier saw the purple haired boy and gestured for him to come over. He straightened up from where he was, standing to greet the lad, though the others stuck to their seats still eyeing Viveka wearily. It wouldn't be easy to win them over it seemed. "Young man, over here." he called out, gesturing for the barkeep to pull a chair over. Of course, these men seemed to be past their prime and expected such things of the younger generation.

Once Viveka had reached the table, the man coughed to clear his throat before starting up again. "Now that we have someplace civil to talk, we can get down to business. First of all: who are you?" His tone was brisk and to the point. This would be a no nonsense meeting. "What I mean to say is, we don't even know your name, so you'll understand if we want to know more before deciding whether you're right for the job."

Viveka sat rather stiffly in his seat among the men and took a few deep breaths. Oh god oh gooood, they were so much older and wiser! How would he ever keep up with them, if they said he could help them out? He would be swallowed alive! His feet fidgeted idly until he was addressed and a polite smile burst through what once was a terrible looking pucker.

"My name is Viveka and I've just moved in with my lover, who is a young man named Natsu." He swayed as he spoke and smiled, his thoughts drifting off to Natsu, until he snapped his attention back to the matter at hand. No, Viveka, lovey-dovey stuff is for later, work is now! "I've lived in Zidel, high up in Zena, all of my life and was taught how to sculpt by my mother, Ren, who passed away when I was young. Her memory is why I continue to sculpt and why I created a statue in her name a few weeks ago." He paused and rubbed the back of his head. "My father said that it was so beautiful it made him cry... Heh... I don't know if that means it was perfect or if it was insulting..."

The men shifted in their seats as the young man spoke. A couple scoffed lightly when Viveka mentioned his father crying. It was his father, of course he would say that. One thing was for sure, most didn't seem to like what they were hearing.

One of the others cleared his throat; he looked surly to begin with and his words were raspy as they left his mouth. "So yer daddy likes yer sculptures and ya spend all yer time with yer boyfriend. Yhsele, this is a waste a time. We can find someone else." He stood as if to leave, but the man who had spoken earlier, obviously Yhsele, motioned for him to sit.

"Now... we're pressed for time, you know that, Jehb. Maybe it won't be so bad." Yhsele turned back to Viveka and nodded his head. "Now, we're looking for something to commemorate our expanding little town. And we're known for management and trading, obviously working with the smaller towns to ship things to Zena. We want something to symbolize that. What do you think?"

Viveka blushed as Jehb spoke. Sure, his "daddy" liked his sculptures, and he did live with Natsu, but neither of them really shoved him to sculpt. To be honest, his mother was the reason why he even considered himself an artist. She had been the candle that lead him to the final conclusion, a gift he was very thankful for.

"A commemoration sculpture?" He asked, a smile growing on his features. Ah! He loved to make sculptures that spoke to you, that had a meaning or a purpose behind them! His mother's statue and several smaller projects he had been working on all had some sort of message to them. He couldn't think of a time where he just sculpted without a clear purpose! "Well, why not have a sculpture that depicts the act of trading? For example, three men could be shown standing upon a platform. The first man is the one handing the majority of the goods to the man in the middle, which he then trades part of to the third man, a man from Zena. Each statue would be shown giving and taking something from the other statues, symbolizing both the cycle of trade and the important connection that we create when we trade." He paused and smiled towards them. "I do hope that I've made sense..."

The men looked to each other at Viveka's depiction of the sculpture and whispered to each in their horse voices. The whispering was hushed and indistinguishable to Viveka; many of them talking with their hands held up to cover their lips from his gaze.

One thing was for sure, there was a lot of shaking heads going around the table.

Yhsele turned to the man closest to him and whispered, nodding his head occasionally and looking to the others of the group, having their own meeting with Viveka not included. Yhsele nodded one final time before coughing to clear his throat and looking back to the young scultpor they were, until then, ignoring.

"That's not really something we're interested in." He gave Viveka a halfhearted smile as if he was beginning to think like the others and feel that this eventually wasn't going to work out. "We were thinking something that had to do with the mammu that we used to transport the stuff back and forth, that and something distinctly 'Sauti' about it."

Jehb spoke up, wheezing his words gruffly and with a hint of distaste; his face scrunching up like he had smelled something bad. "I'm tellin' ya, yer wastin yer time here, Yhsele. It's gonna be too big fer him."

Viveka's face fell, but quickly perked back up at the mention of a Mammu statue. He could do that in his sleep! Well, maybe not one of this size, but he could still do a good job on it! Now, they wanted a Mammu, with a Sauti twist to it? His feet twitched as he thought, his pointer finger and thumb rubbing his chin as they did, and just as Jehb finished speaking, he faced them again with a new idea.

"Alright, before I present my next idea, I would like to say that it may be wise to tell the person making the statue about your favored ideas before you ask them for theirs." He said, smiling far more confidently. "Now, with that said, how about a statue of a Mammu climbing up or over the craggy rocks and mountains of Sauti. It would have many satchels and bags tied around it's back and placed upon it, because it would be carrying the goods back and forth. Another option could be the addition of a person on top as well, but that would be up to you."

The group's faces turned stern with Viveka's words. Jehb coughed loudly and pointed a finger in Viveka's direction. "I told ya, he's no good! Talkin' back to us. Ya would think he didn't want our money." Most of the group nodded in agreement. Viveka's suggestion had not been taken well and his attitude was perceived as cocky. Even Yhsele's face fell with disapproval. There were 'tsk's going around the room, the drinks no longer merry. Then Jehb spoke up once more. "And that idea is just plain ridiculous. How're you gonna even start to stick a mountain range under a full-sized Mammu?" He pushed his jaw forward, "We ain't looking for no dinky thing here."

Yhsele sighed to himself, rubbing his chin as if her was thinking of what would be the best thing to do next after this impasse seemed to have sprung up. Viveka was losing any shred of respect he had with this group fast.

"Tell you what..." Yhsele spoke up slowly, still planning his words. "How about you just give us a Mammu with the bags and satchels and whatnot and a wagon on the back loaded with cargo, with a trader next to the Mammu with one hand on its side." He looked around the group, looking for approval with this choice before turning back to Viveka. "That will probably work."

He rubbed his chin again before speaking up. "Now, this is going to be a pretty big statue, what with a full sized mammu and all. You're going to have to construct it on site, and you're gonna have to use clay. There isn't enough good stone to haul in to make this thing." The other's nodded, though they still weren't completely satisfied with their choice of sculptor. "You'll have one day to get your things together and meet us back at Tinerr, where you'll start."

Viveka shrunk back into his chair. Okay, so his ideas were terrible and he had no become a total jerk, somehow. All he was saying was that it might be easier on the artist if they knew what they were doing before they jumped in and did it. Maybe it was best if he just went home and forgot about the whole thing, they obviously were far more experienced than he was and he had absolutely no right to be working with them... Yet, and still, Yhsele seemed to want him there...

"Alright, I will be there." He said, his face growing ever stoic. It looked as if he had been slapped or beaten a bit and he was doing his best not to show his emotion. The only thing good about this, so far, seemed to be the fact that they wanted a Mammu and he could use clay. Clay was a medium his mother had shown him how to use as a child, and he hoped to remember it as well as she had shown him.

Yhsele clapped his hands together once, breaking the tension finally. "Well, that settles that then. We'll talk price once you're in Tinerr. And with that, we're off."

The men all rose to their feets, shuffling their weight from foot to foot, some seeming to take considerable effort to rise again. Yhsele led the team back towards their rooms where they would pack back up and travel back to Tinerr, not wanting to stay in Mez for much longer.

Yhsele stopped halfway back to the sleeping quarters of the inn and turned back to Viveka. "We'll see you there." He scratched his chin. "And come alone. We don't need any distractions coming with you." And with that he receded back into his room, leaving Viveka alone.

[Viveka is to meet the group in Tinerr in a day's time. His trip can be as long or as short as you see fit. Please solo his way there.]
