There was no power. Of course. Alaska should’ve seen it coming, considering the sort of chaos she had woken up to after the whole shebang with Excalibur and Merlin—which she was still trying to fully grasp even now. She still felt new to being a hunter even though it had already been a few months. There were things she would never know firsthand, only secondhand, and that frustrated her. It was always best to understand things from the source, but alas. Sure, there was plenty to do on the Island still, but for a sun hunter? She figured there couldn’t be any harm in training for a bit.

She walked out to the fields with her weapons already in her hands. Alaska absentmindedly ran tattooed fingers over the thin lines spreading across her neck. Some might not have liked the markings, but she didn’t regret it at all. She rolled her neck, bones cracking just before she smashed her leiomano into a dummy, but after a few minutes of mindless hitting, she decided she wanted something more challenging. A spar sounded good.

When the trainee looked around, she noticed a few others milling around. She sighed before calling out to the nearest hunter, “Do you want to spar?”

Finn was kind of sort of starting to hate it here. He felt lost, all the time, which he despised. He never knew what he was supposed to be doing, what training he should be getting done, and even after being here for a month still really wasn't sure how to wield his stupid (but kick a**) weapon properly.

Trynt growled at the 'stupid' thing, but Finn just mentally growled back in an "I really don't give a ******** what you think dragon-wannabe" kind of way.

Now to top it all off, there was no power. No way to use the hair dryer he had paid another hunter to get for him before the portals were closed, before the whole tear thing, before the entire island went into complete disarray. No way to get more cigarettes then the dwindling supply (okay he actually still had quite a lot but it would begin to dwindle eventually and he didn't like that thought very much) that currently stashed away hopefully safe and sound in his room. No way to really know anything that was going on without getting treated like proverbial dirt beneath proverbial fingernails, another thing he couldn't stand. Maybe he just took issue with authority. Maybe.

And then, of course, there was the fact that his best buddy on the outside world's ex-girlfriend was here, and the dumb b***h was actually his superior. <******** hell, did he ever want to just get off of this rock for a couple of days, this currently boiling hot ******** rock, just so he could have time to get his head straight and figure out what the hell he was actually supposed to be doing.

When somebody called out to him for a spar, on a day when he was, once again, practically just wandering around aimlessly and trying to appear busy so he didn't catch any s**t, he almost welcomed it.

And then he saw who had called out to him and had to pause to actually stare for a while. Tats. That was a woman, right? He let his eyes drop to her chest.

Yep.

He sighed inwardly.

"Ya sure, why not." He made his way toward her, boot heels thudding against the ground, as he summoned his totally kick a** lance to hand.

The one he wasn't sure he even knew how to use but that didn't make it any less kick a**.

"All right, cupcake." His mouth twisted into a half smirk. "Let's get to it."

He then made a gesture with his free hand and said "Ladies first." While inwardly thinking, that is not a lady.

Oh, if only Alaska could read minds. She would’ve shanked Finn so goddamn hard. Just because she had tattoos and a boyish hairstyle did not make her unfeminine in the least. She still had a pretty face, if Nevada’s face was any indicator (which it should be, considering they were identical twins). A slender hand rested against her hip as she noticed his gaze lingering somewhere below her face. Her neutral expression immediately morphed into silent judgment, one eyebrow propped up skeptically at the moon hunter. At least, judging by the emblem on his coat, she thought he was a moon hunter. So this guy was one of the many she would have to work with on the frontlines, huh? Great.

Keen eyes narrowed, taking in the minute details of his reaction, but Alaska chose to say nothing. She had her guesses about what he was thinking, but this time she would be nice and play benefit of the doubt. The raven-haired woman said nothing as he summoned his weapon. Following suit, she plucked the ear cuff off her ear and dropped her arms as her hands grasped the familiar weight of her leiomanos.

“Before we begin, I’ll briefly introduce myself—Alaska Burns.” She bent her knees, lips curling into a tight smile. “By the way, don’t call me cupcake.”

It was nice to see he actually had manners of some sort. That was a plus, but redundant in a battle in her opinion. The enemy usually wasn’t so courteous. She leaned back to briefly consider her first move before stepping forward to test him out with a basic swing of her arms.

He gave himself a little more time to look her over now that he'd established that she was indeed a female, a smirk growing across his face. Really, the only thing that had thrown him off had been the tattoos. He wasn't really a fan of them on women, though he'd known a few that had them, and had even dated a couple who did as well. Nothing like what this woman possessed, however. Combined with the hairstyle...it had been an innocent mistake, one that he could see now was completely obvious. He could appreciate her looks. Actually they looked oddly familiar....

Her eyes narrowed at him, and his smirk broke into a full on smile that didn't reach his eyes in the slightest.

"A pleasure to meet you~" He said, smoothly, raising his own weapon in turn. "Finn Connor. And whatever you say, sugar."

She shouldn't have let on that the cupcake thing bothered her. She really shouldn't have.

Completely unfamiliar with his weapon in a battle sense, Finn's attempt at a block was somewhat clumsy, and not enough to stop Alaska's weapon from hitting him.

Or at least, striking against his shield. God that was weird, and was going to take some getting used to.

< Attack her. Now!" > Trynt had never sounded so excited, and Finn obliged rather too hastily, as though his weapon knew what was best and he should oblige without thinking.

Trynt began to chortle.

God damnit!

He swung the lance at her, aiming to hit her with it's spiked blades.

She narrowed her eyes. “How about you drop the nicknames hm, Finn?” Stupid nicknames are hardly appreciated, thank you very much. I dunno. I kinda like them! I think you need some cute nicknames to counteract your ugly scowl. And how about you shut your ******** trap already, kid. Geeeez. I was just saying! One of her eyes twitched before Alaska managed to push most of Kit’s presence into the back of her mind.

A fast retaliation from the moon hunter, but hasty as well. It lacked finesse, confidence. It wasn’t as if he had practiced the swing a thousand times over and then some, though she herself had yet to practice that much either. Alaska stepped to the side, leaning over slightly so the lance only pricked her in the side. Nothing much.

But while she was still this close…Alaska rammed her weapon into Finn’s side.

"Aw come on buttercup! There's nothing wrong with a good nickname. Here, you can even give me one if you want. Give it a try!" He smiled at her then, a flash of teeth in a wolf's grin, gripping his weapon with two hands and holding it as though he would use it to attempt to deflect any blows she sent his way. He would be the first to admit that he didn't quite know what he was doing, but with Trynt's steady, snarling prompts and with what almost felt like natural, or perhaps unnatural, instincts, he swung again to try and counteract the blow she sent towards him, though not quite quick enough to avoid the ramming blow that made him grimace through the smile that he still wore.

As he had already swung the spear end of his lance downward to no favorable result, he followed up by swinging the spiked tail end of it towards her, aiming between her shoulder and her collar bone with a slashing strike.

She nearly popped a vein. If he was going to insist on using cheesy nicknames, then he could at least stick to one. Alaska hardly felt flattered by the constant change in title. How was that supposed to make her feel special or whatever? Her eyes narrowed to slits, and for a moment it seemed as if she was going to tackle him to the ground and bash his head in right then and there; island protocols be damned. But then her expression lightened up into a pleasant smile, and for a moment she seemed quite pretty, prettier than usual. “Alright then, Bondage Freak.” Her words came out too sweet and laden with deadly honey. And why yes, there was something very odd about all those damn ropes and sashes hanging all over Finn’s coat.

Distracted slightly by her anger, Alaska barely managed to block most of the force by ramming her own weapon into Finn’s lance. She scowled and swung a leiomano against the lance’s handle to destabilize his grasp.

Oh but she looked angry with him! It was becoming more and more difficult not to just laugh in her face the more she scowled at him, and he was already mentally ticking off more pet names in his head that he could use on her, though coming up with one that fit perfectly was always the hardest part.

And then she suddenly just..smiled at him, and that took him off guard probably more then anything, her face lightening up into something much more pleasant to gaze upon. Very pretty, if he ignored the haircut and the tattoos, though they were already bothering him less and less.

"Bondage freak?" He had to laugh then, a dry chuckle, a flash of teeth, and the same dead pan eyes as before, as though no amount of amusement could warm them. "You into that, lovely?" He asked, bracing himself against the blow against his lance that sent reverberations travelling up his arms, a tingle that ached most in his wrists, though instead of making his grip loosen, he tightened his hold and swung up, slashing at her with it's bladed spikes.

< Delicioussss > Trynt practically purred as he filled up with Fear.

There were no words that could convey the rage boiling beneath her skin, although the words b***h, I will cut you were evidently written across her face. Fury was no stranger to Alaska, but murderous intent was something else altogether. Somewhere, somehow, the sun trainee managed to note that she would definitely, never, ever, work with this douchebag unless he was the very last option. A voice—that wasn’t Kit’s—in the back of her head told her that her twin probably held similar sentiments.

She could have said a lot of things. She could have said anything, but given the likely chance he would grossly misconstrue the intent behind them, the raven-haired woman opted for another sharp glare. Everything she wanted to say was instead put into her charged attack, the spikes on her leiomanos glowing as they flew out and zoomed for him.

She didn't appear to feel like talking anymore, and Finn could only smirk at the look in her eyes, in how easily she had already come to seemingly despise him. Had it been something he'd said? More then likely.

The vicious attack that followed came as a bit of a surprise, however, and Finn fought to fend her off with his lance, though it seemed she had gotten some kind of...power boost? He took a staggering hit to his Fear shield, one that he was sure was going to leave some lovely looking bruises across his chest, when suddenly Trynt's voice snarled in his head.

< I am charged. >

Good for you what the ******** does that even mean?

< It means you can use me to do...something special. To use the Fear I have garnered from your opponent. >

Come to think of it there was a sense of...something going on. The staff of his weapon fairly thrummed with power, and the runes along it's side were glowing quite a bit brighter then was the norm.

Okay so what am I supposed to do?

And Trynt explained it, as best he could, all if it taking mere moments as he circled his opponent warily, awaiting any further attack, deciding to keep talking to her only to keep her distracted while he tried to work out what came next.

"Aw come on now, darling! That was meant to be a joke." He let out a sharp bark of laughter, as though to prove his point. "No need to get your panties in a ******** twist over it. Don't go all strong and silent type on me now." He gave her a brilliant grin, which might have been more convincing if his eyes hadn't stayed so dead and devoid of feeling.

And then he was doing as he was instructed by his weapon, spinning him in front of himself, the lance twirling in a blur of white, magenta, and faint hints of yellow.

< Now make me fly. >

He tossed the lance up into the air, and as he did so, he could feel it. It was like a mini cyclone of air, not visible to the eye but encircling him, surrounding him, it's visible properties only shown by the way his long brown hair and clothing began to ruffle as though caught in some kind of wind.

And when the lance fell back into his hand, that effect remained, all while Trynt assured him that it was some added protection to keep him safe from harm.

If only they were regular humans on normal streets. She would’ve been able to pummel him in a physical fight quite well, assuming he had little to no experience with street fighting. But no, they were two people dead to the rest of the world and living on an abandoned island covered in mist. They were two hunters struggling to figure out how to properly use their weapons. But at least her attack had landed, and that in itself was enough.

But if her weapon had been charged, then so had his. Alaska took a step back, waiting for the moon hunter to unleash his charged attack, but it came out differently than she had expected. She had expected something offensive, damage-causing, but instead she was met with a large barrier. “You have got to be shitting me,” she hissed with slumped shoulders. Afraid not! Geez. That’s kind of troublesome, but it has to come down eventually, don’t worry! Is there a weak spot in this thing?!

Rather than waste her energy in attacking something completely foreign and new to her, Alaska stepped forward to tentatively hit it with one of her leiomanos. No go. The shield was still up. Alaska sighed loudly. On the bright side, it would be useful on real missions. But for now, Alaska would have to wait until it went down somehow. No way she could deal damage with this up.

If Finn could have heard her thoughts, he would have scoffed, because like hell a woman would ever be able to take him in a fair fight. Like hell. For all of his pretty boy, clean, well dressed looks, there was definitely more to him then met the eye.

Nobody would have suspected what kind of upbringing he had, or the type of career he had originally pursued before his father had passed away and he had decided to move out on his own.

While the barrier was still up, Finn was protected, and he smirked at Alaska's attempt to cut through.

"Nice try." He intoned smugly, before stepping forward to swing his own weapon.

Except that the odd..shielding...sort of through him off a bit.

You sure I can actually hit her through this thing?

Well okay then we'll just pretend that I didn't just miss her.

Confidence was a nice thing to have, but there was a difference between confidence and arrogance. If only Alaska could show Finn how glad she would be to kick him in the balls with her heels, if only. They could assume all they wanted about each other, but she knew they would always be missing the big picture. He’d miss Nevada, her peachy home, running away. She’d miss his fighting, his mother.

She shot him a blank stare. It wasn’t as if she’d tried very hard after the first hit, but whatever made him happy, she supposed. Alaska took a very obvious step to the side when he attempted to stab her with his polearm. The trainee attempted to tap the barrier once more with her weapon, but found it was still in effect. She clicked her tongue. How much longer until this wears off? Beats me.
