It had been a few weeks since she had found out that her daughter was a senshi. A few weeks to brood, and a few weeks to worry. Tonight she was going to do something about it. She had sent a letter to Camelot and asked him to meet her in the park. He was the most responsible knight that she knew, and he had been the first one to really answer her questions, so she just…wanted to talk to him about this.

Maybe he would have some advice as to what to do, or what not to do would be better. It had taken all of her willpower not to go into Millie’s room every night to make sure she was there, or if she wasn’t, it took all of her willpower not to just wait in the room until she returned.

She just wanted this to be cleared up. She wanted to have it all out in the open…but at the same time. She was just scared. Terrified.

So here she was, standing against a tree as Caelian, gently playing with her powderpuff, waiting for Camelot to show up. And man did she hope he had some sort of advice for this kind of a situation. Because…she didn’t know who else to turn to? Shalott maybe? Maybe she’d do that anyway just to get a second opinion.

Camelot was more than happy to meet Caelian, though he couldn't help but worry about it. Whenever anyone wanted to meet him, he worried, and hoped they were okay, and started to plan in his head how he could help them and how he could make things better if things were going wrong for them.

He couldn't help but worry about them. His friends and family. No matter how old they were, what attitude they had, whether they liked him or not: he was a knight and he was pledged to their service, simply by knowing them. He was dedicated to that ideal, and he needed to be there for them, whenever they needed him.

He arrived on time, having locked up the library behind him and powering up down an alley along the way. He followed her aura and then spotted Caelian waiting for him. He smiled at her pleasantly, though he couldn't shake that look of worry.

"Hello, Caelian," he said with a nod of his head, a little deeper than one normally might, because he was getting far too used to bowing at others. "Are you okay?"

Well, might as well jump right in.

Caelian sighed, though brightened a bit when Camelot did show up. The squire straightened up and gave a little smile, at his greeting, nodding her head in return. The smile faded when he jumped right into the issue though and she slumped back against the tree she had been leaning on. “I don’t know. I mean, physically I’m fine, everyone’s fine, I think.” She didn’t want him to worry about her, or anything.

“I just…discovered something not too long ago, and I don’t…know how to handle it. Tell me, Camelot, do you know how long it takes to become an eternal senshi? Is it a long time, or can it happen quickly?”

She wasn’t sure how to bring up the topic, in fact it all just made her feel ill, still. Part of her wanted to just walk away and forget she ever mentioned anything.

But she knew that wouldn’t do her any good. Not any good at all.

"An eternal senshi?"

He frowned thoughtfully, thinking at the ones he knew. He had seen many senshi grow from their base levels to Super Senshi and then on to Eternals, but he had never really kept track of the time it took for each one to get there. He also knew his own son was an Eternal Senshi, and had been oblivious to him ever being a senshi in the first place, so he had not seen him grow into that status.

That seemed to be a common theme with him and his son. Not seeing him grow until he was an adult and no longer needed him, or an Eternal that needed no one.

"I imagine it takes about as long as it does for us, though it really depends on the person. I've seen some go through to it in a matter of months, and others take a lot longer. Why do you ask?" He looked worried still, tilting his head at her and watching her with those patient but worried green eyes of his.

She sighed, leaning her head back for a moment, trying to figure out how to say everything she wanted, though finally decided just to cut right to the hard part. “I was sparring with this chibi senshi, and it turned out that he was a friend of my daughters. And he told me that she was a senshi. An eternal senshi, and I was just wondering…just how long she might have been keeping this from me.”

Caelian closed her eyes, drawing in a deep breath. She had clenched her hands into fists and was working on releasing them when she shook her head. “Camelot, I don’t even know what to do about that. Or where to start. Do I talk to her? Or do I keep ignoring it and pretending that it’s not a thing…she’s only twelve years old. She can’t be out here fighting like I am. My god, she’s just my little baby, she can’t be a senshi. I don’t want to believe it.”

It was quite clear that the squire was on the edge of hysteria, and she had been since learning the truth. Hysteria and denial. Not a good combination.

Camelot's eyebrows lifted.

"Believe me, I know what that feels like. I really, really do." He laughed a bit as he said that, just at the irony of finding someone else who had just managed to experience the same thing he had. He had to wonder how life could be so terrible and scary, but at the same time offer small comforts and help when it needed to. He did not think this had anything to do with the magic that guided them, though, so much as the war impacting many people in the same ways. It was bound to happen, but the timing couldn't have been better.

He moved a bit closer to her, putting his hand lightly on her shoulder in comfort.

"I just found out my teenage son is a senshi, as well. An eternal, like your daughter, though he's a bit older. He's almost an adult, I suppose, but still. The idea that he's been out here as a senshi, possibly longer than I've been a knight... and I never knew about it? I don't know. I haven't spoken to him about it, either, and I'm afraid I don't know how to approach him..."

He shook his head slowly, taking a breath.

"I know it's scary, thinking, knowing, our children are out here, fighting the same battles we are... but I have to believe that he's made friends, people that can help him. Hopefully your daughter has, too. With her being so young, maybe it would be a good idea to speak to her about it. She might still want to listen." He knew Nathan wouldn't care about anything Tony had to say.

Caelian looked at him and shook her head. “I didn’t realize, I suppose.” She sighed. “It’s kind of hard to imagine other people going through the same thing that you are when the thing feels like it’s the end of the world as you know it…” She gave a little smile and shrugged. “She hasn’t come home with any big injuries or anything, so at least that’s a good thing…but I’m still worried sick about her…and with your son, I hope things work out…if he’s older, at least you don’t have to worry as much about him…and I hope you can find the right things to say.”

She closed her eyes and shook her head. “It’s so scary to think about our children being involved in this stupid war. Why can’t they just be safe at home in bed, or tucked away in their crib like when they were little, right? Back when I thought life here was going to be the safest place in the world for my little girl. Boy was I ever wrong.”

The woman hesitated, then looked up at Camelot once again. “Do you think…do you think her and I should move away? Would that be a good idea? I’ve been considering it…but it feels like I’d be just running away from my duty as a knight…but the bad thing is…my duty to my daughter comes first to me…”

Camelot smiled thinly, though he wasn't sure it was an accurate assessment. He was always going to worry about his son and, because of the nature Nathan had, he could only worry more and more as time went on. Nathan was a reckless and stupid boy, sometimes, because he was proud and he was cocky. Camelot worried that his son would walk into a fight he could not hope to win, and worse, Camelot would never know about it.

And then what? His son would be one of the mysterious deaths of missing persons in this city. Just a statistic.

"I wish we could keep them safe, but I suppose there's some force out there that knows better than we do. It chose them for these powers, to awaken them as senshi. I hope that means that they are meant to survive, that they have the skills and friends and chances they need to get through all of this. And, now that we know, we can do what we can to help them along."

He smiled at her, though he looked a little pale, his eyes still warm and understanding as they ever were. At her question, he shook his head.

"Don't worry, I know what those instincts are like. I don't know how effective it is, trying to run away. From what I've heard, there are fights like this all over the place. And troubles, no matter what they are, have a way of catching up to someone. I think you need to decide what would be best for you. We're given these powers with a duty, and I believe in that duty. I couldn't leave it, but I don't expect everyone else to feel the same way. Even so, I believe in the powers you have, and the senshi, even your daughter and my son. It might seem like the easy answer, to hide away, but I'm not sure it is the right one, if you're making that decision because you're scared. Give it some thought for a while. Talk to her. See where things really stand, I think, is the best advice I can give."
