Since there was no power in the dorms, Molly had taken to opening the windows every day, to let the sun light in. For some time, she stood in front of one of these opened windows, and just stared out at the sky. The blue sky. She missed the fog, oddly enough. Seeing that regular sky again reminded her there was a whole world out there outside of Deus, one she had come from. One she had chosen to leave behind.

The sky, along with other recent events, really, had gotten her thinking. She wasn’t taking this lightly either, and she had been rolling it around in her head for a long time, especially after everyone came back. Especially after Miss Clarice and Miss Clerise passed. The thought had her tearing up again, and before she dissolved into a blubbering mess once more, she turned to Candace, who was in today.

“Miss Candace?” She started, her voice kind of squeaky. “…Is it alright if I talk to you about something…?”

Ugh, it was so hot. Candace missed the air conditioning, she missed cold drinks, she missed showering. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail because she just didn't want to deal with it now that she couldn't give it its daily care regimen, and she was down to wearing shorts and a tank top while she sat on the couch and read a book. It was one she had read over and over again but something about it just didn't sit right with her, it'd gotten to the point where she had taken markers and pens and started marking things on several pages. She didn't want to think about their situation, or about the fact that every time she opened her door she saw Clarice and Clerise's room across the hall, locked off and sealed so no one could get in. She didn't want to think about the missing fog, as pretty as the sky was, and what it actually meant.

When Molly spoke her name she looked up with concern. "Yes, sweetheart?" She marked her page and closed the book, putting it aside for now and patting the seat beside her.

Molly froze.

Ahh…even after all this time, Molly was still finding it hard to make a stand for what she was thinking. The trainee moved away from the window, and settled on the edge of the couch next to Candace. She stared down at her hands for a moment, resisting the urge to wring them, and instead placed them on her lap, albeit a bit fidgety.

“Um…” She started. “Ah…” She grimaced. “…Miss Candace, I…” Her lips twisted. Molly took a deep breath, held it, and then released it with a nervous giggle. Even after all this time, still having trouble. “…Miss Candace I…really appreciate and cherish the time I’ve spent with you here in this apartment, and I’m so grateful that you opened up this space to me…but now…” She paused once more, and her voice grew a bit quieter. “But now I…think I should move out, and go back downstairs.”

Molly was such a sweet, shy little thing that Candace was almost used to her behaving this way. It didn't strike her as strange. It was endearing. She chuckled and reached out to put a hand on Molly's to stop her fidgeting, gently holding her hands and rubbing circles against her skin with her thumb. She wouldn't usually be this patient but...well..it was Molly. Her brow raised with curiosity as Molly began to speak about appreciation and gratitude.

Oh..

Well...that was upsetting. "Oh...I see.." Candace rubbed her lips together and looked away. She had grown so accustomed to having Molly here, to enjoying her presence and seeing her every day. Her cooking, her neatness, her mothering was..nice. It made her happy. She forced a smile. "Are you sure? I'd hate to make you feel like you're being kicked out or something. Why is it you want to leave?"

Though Molly had been looking everywhere but Candace when she spoke, when it was time to hear Candace’s thoughts on the matter, she did glance up, and immediately she regretted even bringing it up. Her stomach churned uncomfortably, and her mouth went dry. Ah, how she just wanted to cry ‘Just kidding, just kidding’ and go back off and knit or something.

But Candace asked her why, and the thought of even trying to exclaim ‘just kidding’ went out the window. She was prompted to move forward. “O-oh, gosh, Miss Candace, no, no…I don’t feel like I’m being kicked out at all…” Molly actually laughed, lightly. “I’ve never felt like that…and actually…I know that if I didn’t do something first, you…you’d never ask me to.” Here she smiled, a genuine smile, because the thought that Candace would want to keep her around, and valued how she felt, made her happy.

“Um…there’s a few reasons, actually…” Now that Molly was getting into the subject, she found it a bit easier to speak. “Well..I think my biggest reason is that…well, you and Shawty are very serious…and I know there’s talk about the house, even though I know you don’t want to move out of the dorms.” Molly reached up to rub her cheek briefly. “You might…maybe move out there one day! Because um…anything is possible…and uh…I know you two are so kind and sweet, and you wouldn’t ask me to leave but…” Molly paused. “But if…or when….it gets to that point, I think I should…because it’s not about the three of us, it’s about the two of you.” Here, she smiled again, happy she could articulate that.

“So…I honestly don’t think I should be calculated into your guys’ plans…and as for the second reason…well…” Molly idly twirled a curl about her finger. “…I never had any motivation to…be or do something before…um…I’m very content to just drift…like a stick in a river…and I think living here, riding on the coat tails of your hard work, it made me less motivated to do something for myself.” Here Molly looked rather ashamed at that. “So I think…if I put myself back downstairs…I think it will help motivate me to want to earn my place on the second floor…er…I mean, to finally earn my full rank…”

She twirled the curl harder, and chanced a glance up at Candace.

Candace listened quietly as Molly explained her reasoning for wanting to move out. She had let her in because the girl had no room to go to, not without 'couch surfing', because the dorms had been a mess. She cared about Molly, Molly was important to her, and she took care of her as best as she could. But this was something she had been worried about, because it was true that she would never ask Molly to move out, she felt bad even considering such a thing as an option. Well...if that was what she wanted..

Still, she was so used to living with Molly it would suck.

The last part of her reasoning surprised Candace. She had had no idea that was how she felt! What? Why hadn't she said something sooner? Oh, Molly. Candace sighed and reached out to hold the hand that was messing with her hand, pulling the girl in for a hug. "Sweetheart, it's okay. It's fine, really. Had I known you felt that way I would have done something sooner." She pet Molly's soft curls, kissing the top of her head and sighing. This sucked. Now she had to live in this room alone, across from the reminder by herself.

"Did you have a timeframe? Or a place in mind?" How much longer could she keep Molly?

Molly was relieved when Candace pulled her in for a hug, and her arms wrapped around the woman in return. Still, she couldn’t help but feel like maybe she should have just kept her mouth shut and continued to live here, but that stemmed from years and years of putting someone else before herself. Miss Candace was a strong and independent soul, who also had Dakota as well, and it was this thought that helped her feel a teeny bit better. Not a lot. Just a teeny bit.

“Oh, it’s not your fault at all, Miss Candace!” Molly assured. “I mean…um…I think there’s just some things others can’t do for you, and I think in terms of what I want to do…that’s something I think only I can figure out and work towards.” Molly leaned back a bit, only to smile widely at the woman. “I want to work towards even being a fraction of the Hunter you are.”

At her question, Molly blinked before answering. “Well…um…I’m probably going to go talk to the quarter master after and uh…see what rooms are available…” Even with the power out, Molly was aware there were sleepers waking up and getting assigned rooms, so she didn’t see that to be a problem. She hoped. “And then it’s just a matter of getting all my things together and moving them downstairs…!” Molly didn’t have a lot, as this was Candace’s apartment, so the moving part really wouldn’t be hard.

Oh, Molly. Why were you so cute? Candace pet her hair while she listened to Molly's assurances and her thoughts, sighing quietly and kissing her temple. If this was what she wanted...

Being a fraction of the..oh Molly. Candace laughed and hugged her tight, nuzzling her face against Molly's cheek. "Well, if you need any help just let me know. I'm here for you. But oh no..who will guard my shoes from the other Mists~." She chuckled and sighed, closing her eyes.

"You've got to keep up with your training though, okay? I think I've been playing favorites and not been getting on your a** about this." Candace playfully pinched Molly's side and then fell quiet. So Molly was going to move out. She wasn't sure how to feel about that...

On the one hand it was nice she wanted to strike out on her own again and live for herself, work her way to Hunter. She had no idea Molly had felt this way.

“O-oh! Of course I’ll let you know!” Molly assured, and then giggled at her question. “Well, to be honest, Miss Candace, I wasn’t doing a very good job before!” She smiled sheepishly. Didn’t someone take Candace’s Jimmy Choo’s? “A-ah! I know!” Molly nodded her head, curls bouncing, and once again looked sheepish. Yeah…maybe if she was out, she’d just be more motivated for everything in general.

More training included.

Molly hummed softly. “You know I’ve never had…a direction before. I never saw myself as anything…there was no motivation, and now I have this second chance and for two years I still didn’t aspire to be anything…” She paused for a moment, and her voice grew hushed. “Then Miss Clarice…” She paused once more and her eyes lidded. “Everyone loves her, and I love her and admire her, and she was the one who helped me get a grasp on how to wield my weapon…she was something…even in the short time I knew her.” Molly sighed. Death and loss were so heavy. “I think I’d be…sad and…disappointed in myself if I didn’t really try.”

At the mention of Clarice, Candace held Molly tighter, her face pressed into the girl's curly hair. Everyone did love Clarice. The whole situation was just...wrong. Candace, despite having paid her respects and said goodbye to the two women, still didn't want to believe it was true; she still wanted so badly to believe they would come back just as Bix and Ceres had.

"I understand. Trust me, I understand completely." She sighed. "Anything you need, I'm happy to help."

Molly held onto Candace tighter as well, and leaned her head against hers. “I-I know…!” She replied with a smile. “I know.” She repeated, softer. “Thank you for everything."

Candace kissed the top of Molly's head and closed her eyes, settling comfortably with Molly hugged against her. "My pleasure, Molly. Thank you." She fell quiet after that, simply cuddling the woman close to her while she still could. Candace had no intention of letting her go anytime soon.
