...Okay, so she had overdone it.
Or maybe that was an understatement, considering how her intention of testing out a few of her dessert recipes had gotten completely out of hand. The past three days had been spent preparing creams, making mousses, molding decorations, and baking a variety of different cakes. She had wanted to make just a couple to see how they tasted and how to present them best visually, but...
Well uh. Twenty desserts was a little more than she had intended.
The baku stared at the spread of cakes on her countertop a little blankly, lifting a hand to rub at the back of her neck. What now? She had ended up giving everything a little taste test while making them, so trying all of them again would be kind of redundant. That, and it was probably better to get a someone whose palette was slightly different from hers--aka didn't have a massive sweet tooth--to try these too so that she could get an opinion.
...
Picking up her phone, Xiu dialed a very familiar number, clearing her throat. When he picked up, he would hear a very sheepish baku on the other line. "Hey, aniki? Would you mind dropping by? I kind of...overdid something and need your help."

When Shun received the call, he was expecting trouble. He threw on his jacket and hurried on over, ready with the idea that he might need to stab someone or slit their throats. Maybe both. It didn't take him long to appear at Xiu's door. "Oi. Xiu," he called out as he knocked. He hoped the trouble wasn't actually inside her place, but he was still ready to fight in case that was the issue here. She didn't sound particularly panicked or anything over the phone so it was likely not quite an immediate threat, but one could never be too careful.

When the door was opened, Shun would find himself face to face with a safe--but very, very sheepishly looking--baku. "Aniki, hi! Um...thanks for coming! I hope you weren't doing anything important...?" Because wow, she was going to feel really guilty if she had called him out here while he was in the middle of training or something.
When she pushed her door open wider to grant him entrance, the first thing the reaper would probably notice was the sweet scent that was lingering in the air. The next thing...was probably the array of small, colorful cakes that lined her kitchen counter.
...Yup.
"I wanted to test some of the recipes for the cafe Gene and I are opening after graduating, but I made too many." She confessed, clasping her hands behind her back and shuffling her feet, "I was wondering if you, er, were willing to do a bit of taste testing..."

When the door swung open, Shun peeked in and looked around, though there wasn't anything particularly out of the ordinary. He soon picked up of what smelled like sweet baked goods, and after that, he spotted the array of foods on the counter. "No, I wasn't doing much in particular.." he stated as he entered slowly. Needless to say, this wasn't quite what he expected. "Ah yes.. I remember Gene setting up some taste testing for coffee awhile back," he murmured while looking over the sweet confectioneries. Soon, he blinked at her. Him? Taste test? He wondered if he should have brought Mitsu along. Granted, she wouldn't be able to touch anything with chocolate. "I suppose so."It was for the sake of her dream.. right?

Xiu stared up at him.
Truthfully, she hadn't expected for the reaper to accept so readily. There was a moment of silence, and then she beamed up at him, tail wagging happily behind her. Even though she knew he was going to stiffen up in discomfort, she chose to give him a hug anyways, albeit a very brief and light one.
Drawing back, she hurried to set the desserts on a tray, carrying them out to her dinner table so that the boil wouldn't have to stand and try all of them. "Feel free to sit down! Just give me a second to make you some nice green tea."
She scurried around her kitchen to work on that, but it wasn't even a minute later that she called out again, poking her head out from around the short wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of her dorm.
"How are you feeling, by the way? Since...that whole mess?"

Sure enough, Shun tensed as Xiu hugged him, and relaxed once she let him go. Letting out a breath, he moved to take a seat. He furrowed his brow, staring at all the desserts. That was a shitton. He hoped he didn't have to eat the whole thing of each one. The tea should help offset the sweetness too. "I'm fine. I've got this blasted lock," he muttered motioning towards the chain choker around his throat, "I haven't figured out what the ******** it's holding back. Not quite."

She stepped out of the kitchen with a tray of tea balanced expertly on the palm of one hand, perking up when Shun motioned towards the lock at his neck. Smiling wryly, she moved forward to set the tea down on the table before tapping the lock that sat against her hip, held in place with chains like a belt. "You and I both, aniki. I'm not sure what it is I've forgotten...but I certainly hope that I manage to get this thing off soon."
But until then...tasting! Tail wagging, she set a fork down in front of the boil before pouring him a cup of tea and then finally sitting down in the chair by his. Leaning forward, she pushed the first four--a tiramisu, matcha mousse cake, booberry mousse cake, and traditional chocolate cake--in front of him.
...
"You don't have to finish all of them," She added hastily, holding up her hands, "Just a bite, or however much you want!"

Ah. So Xiu had a lock as well. Curious. There was no point in really trying to work it out right now. He wasn't certain how one would find a lost memory. Shaking his head, he eyed the variety of treats, then took in a deep breath. Alright. So he didn't have to eat everything. With a touch of hesitation, he went on and tried everything, taking a bite out of each one. He took a moment to taste the things. "Not bad. This booberry is a bit too sweet, however," he said quietly.

Xiu had managed to procure a pen and notepad from somewhere, her tail thumping lightly against the back of her chair as she stared at Shun intently. When he told her that the booberry one was too sweet she immediately perked up, jotting down a quick note before pushing forward more cakes. Coffee, devil's food cake, vanilla, and a variety of others...
...Basically Shun had a lot to sample.
Sitting in silence felt a little awkward though, so she decided to make some conversation. Setting her things down, the ghoul propped her head up in her hands as she tilted her head at the reaper, pink eyes round. "I can't remember if I ever asked what you were going to do after graduating, aniki...?"

Shun furrowed his brow as he stared at the sweets. Taking in a deep breath, he began to taste these, taking a bite out of each one. "The coffee is good. ...What's this one? It.. doesn't taste much like anything," he muttered while holding one of the things up. Though, his attention soon shifted as she brought up post-graduation plans. "I'll just be working with my father.. basically."

Xiu laughed sheepishly when he noted that one didn't taste like anything, hastily jotting down the note on her paper. "It was supposed to be a condensed milk dessert but uh...maybe it needs a little something else." She would be sure to go back and review it again later. But until then...
She lifted her brows at his reply, her lips visibly curving into a frown. She wasn't entirely sure what to say, but after a moment of silence, she slowly offered a slow, "That sounds...uh...well. What kinds of things will you be doing?"
...Did she really want to know?

Shun took a bite of another thing, taking a moment to get its taste. After a pause, he nodded in approval. However, he soon lifted his gaze back up towards the baku. "Are you certain you want to know?" he asked plainly.

She absently scrawled the name of the cake he had tried and put a checkmark by it at his reaction before turning her full attention to the reaper again. His question made her visibly hesitate.
"Eer, no. Yes. ...Maybe?"
She was curious, but admittedly rather anxious as well.

"I'll be doing a variety of different things. I may have to deliver or relay things. Perhaps I'll be standing guard. Or I might be sent to strike someone down. Sent to take them in so that Kaitou may ...speak.. with them. Among a few other possibilities," Shun said in a neutral tone. Reaching over, he grabbed another piece of dessert and took a bite. He nodded to this one as well. The next one however, had him pausing. "........."

Well, it didn't all sound...too bad when Shun laid it out like that, but Xiu knew better than to think that it was just an ordinary job. The baku wouldn't claim to understand it since she herself had been relatively sheltered, but...
"You obviously don't need me to tell you this but...be careful, okay?" Her brows drew together in worry, but they smoothed as again as she reached out to pat his shoulder, "And be sure to drop by Gene and I's cafe sometime! My trea--"
She abruptly cut herself off as he took a bite of a liquor-infused chocolate cake. It wasn't a ton of liquor, mind you--just for a tinge of flavour--but the look on his face...
...
"Too strong?" She squeaked, laughing weakly. Truthfully, she had cringed upon trying it herself...
