Usually, Erebus would be either in the library or in his room, nose stuck in some book.
Instead, the middle Cerberus brother was out in the open, having shifted into puppy form once again. These few days, he had taken to stretching his legs with a nice run around the outdoor areas on campus, and today was no exception. It was nice to exercise casually (and not battle any strange monsters), especially when he was in his natural form; being able to take in so many scents whilst he ran around the lake.
After a few laps, the puppy settled down with a contented sigh, staring out at the calm surface of the lake. His tail twitched, and he turned, nosing the white lock at the base of it, staring thoughtfully at the kitsune and cerberus design etched upon it. It probably had to do with that story of his ancestor, right? Hmm...

She'd been going on quite a few walks lately to keep her head clear (literally, actually, it was amazing how much dust a crack in your face could accrue) while making her plans to visit her mother's family. She'd said that was how to fix things, thus Tomoko had made a point to take the advice seriously.
Really it was all that traveling that was going to get to her. Financially and time wise. It wasn't just a trip she could take for a few days and - it was frustrating, to say the least. The distraction was well needed.
Circling the monster dorms, Tomoko was passing by the lake when she spotted the black canid (who she absolutely 100% didn't recognize as a student she should know) and was filled with an urge to give pets.
With a whistle, she patted her hands together, crouching and extending them towards Erebus-who-she-thought-was-a-minipet.
"C'mere~"

??
Ears perked up at the sound of a very familiar voice. Tomoko!! She was okay! Now distracted from the lock, Erebus leaped up from where he had been seated and ran towards her, tail wagging furiously. A quick glance told him that she didn't seem to have a lock anywhere, but well, at least she hadn't had to go through all that. Like how Xiu had ran up and down stairs and exhausted herself getting all the keys...
He was just really glad to see her again, placing a paw on his knee, and about to greet her when--
He is climbing. Climbing and climbing, taking step after step, forcing himself upwards. He has gotten separated from her, somehow, and his senses are lost-- he can not speak, or hear anything at all. And yet he climbs, and climbs, and then he spots her, at the very top of the stairs, waiting.
I’m sorry. He mouths, patting her on the head.
Wait what? His eyes had glazed over, and to anyone else, it seemed as though he was staring blankly off into the distance, as if he had smelled something interesting and wanted to chase it.

Tomoko happily ruffled his fur. "Awww, aren't you a sweetheart!" she cooed affectionately as she scratched behind his ears. What a friendly little guy!
When he stared off past her, Tomoko looked over her shoulder to see if anything was there. "Hmmm? See something nice over there, Koinu-chan?" Yes. Pet names already.

Ear scratches! Erebus would have closed his eyes in blissful content if it hadn't been for... that... nickname?
He tilted his head curiously up at her. "Tomoko, I'm Erebus!" Well, it wasn't exactly surprising that she wouldn't recognize him in this form.

"............"
Tomoko's hands suddenly recoiled as if she'd touched fire, eyes wide as she made a high pitched noise.

...Oh.
He certainly hadn't expected that reaction. Um... had he done something wrong?? "Oh Jack, oh Jack, I'm so sorry, are you okay, oh um..." The puppy ran around in circles, wondering what the best thing to do was, before deciding that he should transform back.
Yeah. Probably wise. Shifting back into his humanoid form, he crouched down beside Tomoko. "I... didn't mean to scare you."

"Ithoughtyouwereaminipetandwasgoingtotryandtakeyouhomewithme" Tomoko managed to squeak as an answer.
Where he thought she was terrified, she was actually just very embarrassed.

"............."
"...Oh." That one word escaped his lips softly, as Erebus' cheeks turned scarlet. "Uh... well... no harm done, right?" And yet he had a mental image of Tomoko picking him up and carrying him back to her room...
Um. There had to be some way to alleviate this awkward situation right? "Well, you...uh... were really good at giving ear-scratches?"
Yeah, no, Erebus was horrible at this.

Tomoko buried her face into her hands to hide how bright her face was turning. "That's not the pointtttt...I didn't even recognize you!" she replied, muffled into her hands.
Only after a minute did she pull her hands from her face. "Not to say I don't think I'm good at ear scratches. You get practice with baby siblings, but I'msosorry"

"Well, you know, a black puppy isn't really, you know..." He patted her gently on the head, trying to console her. "It's okay! Really." It wasn't as if he had any distinguishing accessories like Thack and his keys. All he had was his tie and bones on his arms.
"That would explain it." Erebus said with a laugh. "I'm sure your siblings loved getting ear scratches from you. So uh... how have you been?"

"Yeah, they did. They were little pandering puffballs.." Tomoko agreed. Because everybody needed the mental image of tiny little baby kitsunes in their head, being walking cotton balls with tails and nubby little legs.
Still, it seemed to make her feel better, smiling as she rested her cheeks in her hands. "I've been pretty okay. Saw my mom recently and uh..." she wouldn't talk about Kamui for a bit. "Got a lead on where to go about.." she scratched at the crack in her face. "This..."

The mental image of baby kitsunes pawing at Tomoko for pats and ear scratches was certainly extremely adorable and put a big grin on his face.
"Oh..." Erebus certainly wondered what Tomoko's mother was like. He hadn't seen his own parents in a while either, but what was important was what came next. "Someone can fix it? Wait, this means you'll have to leave Amityville, right? Won't that be dangerous?"

She nodded slowly. "Yeah. I'll be going pretty far north and I've never really traveled somewhere new by myself so..it'll be a learning experience." Tomoko would have bet money that Frost-kun would have known a thing or twelve with travelling north, though. She'd have to ask him.
"It'll probably be really dangerous, but......I can't stay the way I am and expect to grow or make change..."

"You're... going by yourself?" It felt like a boulder of worry immediately sank in his stomach. It was important to her, he knew, or else she probably wouldn't have to leave.
There was a small selfish thought, whispering to him to ask her to stay, but Erebus immediately shook it away like a fly on his tail. "I understand, but... at least, shouldn't someone go with you? I mean, I could! ...If you, you know, wouldn't mind, though I'd actually not really be much help either..."
He was rambling. Again.
