Kwa Kikombe Lands

PostPosted: Fri Aug 30, 2013 3:59 pm
Setting

It was an ordinary day in the Kwa Kikombe. Players were practicing, trainers were helping adolescents improve their skills, recruiters were eyeing new talent, and spectators were debating on who would have the winning team this year. All seemed very normal until a very odd group of vagabonds wandered into view...

*****

OOC

Time to breathe some life into this pride now that the hiatus is over! Taji, the Player Overseer, is the proud papa of four bundles of energy, but those aren't the only new additions to the scene. A kind-hearted Klipspringer who has been wandering the rouge lands has come across quite the collection of orphaned cubs and pups. All of these SoA will be up for winning, including one of Taji's cubs. The SoA will be given away in different ways that will be listed below. You can win up to two SoA in this event! So exciting!

*****

The Raffle

Each post you give that is over 200 words (yes, they will be checked!) will give you 1 ticket in the raffle. These tickets will be recorded so you don't need to keep track of them, but it might help if you do just so everyone is on the same page. There is no form for the raffle - if you post and meet the quota, you're in! The raffle will be the last thing rolled, so if you have met your two SoA limit, you will be taken off of the raffle.

*****

The Games

There will be a few side games during the event that will involve dice rolling. Anyone can play these games, including cubs, familiars, and rouges/members of other prides that happen to be passing by. These will not be announced prior to beginning, so make sure you check the thread! They will not last very long, a day at the most, so be sure to get your game face on and be ready to rumble at any moment.

*****

Kikombe Practice Raffle

This will give any players the opportunity to learn how to play Kikombe with the dice. We promise it's not as confusing as it may seem to be! This will also serve as a good time to recruit players for a team, if they are in the pride, of course. Anyone can play Kikombe, even if you are not a player. However, if your SoA is a player, you will receive extra tickets for the raffle. For each post you make that is over 200 words and is in one of the Kikombe games, you will be given a ticket for the second raffle. If your SoA is a player, you will be given two tickets for the second raffle.

The Kikombe Practice will be explained in further detail in the main thread once it begins. Again, no need to sign up. Anyone can join any of these games at any time! This RP can count as a JRP if you so wish.

Don't be shy! Step into the light! This is a very welcoming pride!

Spring training was over. It seemed like it had gone on forever to Taji, who was always very excited to see new blood getting onto teams and even creating new ones once the summer rolled around. He knew it was important to have spring training as a bit of a cool-down between the championship game of Kikombe and the start of the new season, but his paws always itched to get back into the game season, even though he didn't play any longer.

Today was the first day of showing off your stuff, so to speak. The recruiters and coaches were out in full force today, seeking new talent to add to their teams. Taji was excited, because it would be a fun day of little games to warm everyone up before the main event: practicing some Kikombe skills to show off. For now, though, he had to wait for the Game Overseer to arrive. She had her paws full with the games staring up again, but today couldn't go on without her.

For now, the Player Overseer would mingle with the crowds as lions and hyenas and all types in between filtered on to the large field. It was dirt, matted down from years of playing, and it felt familiar beneath his paws. He'd see familiar faces, he was sure, but also some new ones. The Kwa Kikombe were always very welcoming to outsiders who wished to rest or stay for a few days, and even those who would partake in their games for a bit of fun. Needless to say, today was no exception. Anyone passing by that was up for a game or two could certainly try their paw at it.

Humming to himself very softly, Taji slid one of the tortoise shells from the sidelines onto the playing field and began to bat it around. It would surely draw the attention of a few pride members at the very least, and the field was close enough to the rouge lands for passers by to catch a glimpse.

((OOC: Feel free to post now! Remember, every post over 200 words gets you a ticket in the raffle for the first two prizes! I'll be using this word counter to verify your posts are long enough before putting you on the list. No need for a form, if it's over 200, you get a ticket! Later on we'll have our dice games, and after that the a little game of Kikombe for everyone to get a feel for the dice. Don't worry, it's easy! Have fun!))

Jala had been roaming for Sikukuu when he'd heard about the games going on over here. Highly curious, he'd come to watch for a bit. The idea of another pride doing games truly perked his curiosity. Though mostly right now it was just a milling crowd, he listened as he bounced through. It seemed that games here were a good bit different than games back home! This was a specific game, it appeared, that involved... a turtle shell?! Baffled but all the more curious, he slid through the gathering until he spotted someone with a turtle shell.

He approached, slowing his jouncing pace to a steady padding. He stopped and sat a distance from the red-maned lion and his toy. Jala had to admit, it certainly made a challenging thing to bat around. It's slick surface and rounded shape meant it moved easily, especially on this paw-pounded ground. Jala's eyes followed the bouncing shell, whiskers wide and quivering. His long tail twitched and twirled almost in an echo of the movement of the shell. This was most interesting! He wondered if the entertainers back home might be interested in something using such a device. But he still was curious... what did they do with that shell? He leaned forward more, still watching the lion avidly.

Aka stretched out in front of him, retracting and revealing his claws at will. He had gotten almost a full twelve hours worth of nice, relaxing sleep since the previous night, and a nice morning stretch was a good way to loosen up all his sore muscles. Previous to his binge sleeping Aka had engaged in running madly about, tempting to almost break his slender legs in sprinting. That was good and all, it made him feel quick and powerful. But the one backlash was that it wore him out, often more soon then he wanted or expected. His lungs would have him gasping for air and his feet would scream for a break. Then Aka would sleep for hours on end as a way of recollecting his missing energy.

It was reckless, and not the most efficient way to train mind you; but Aka was much to lax to put effort into working out properly. He hadn't a team to worry over nor a coach to yell at him to get up. Without either of those things (even if he had those things he'd probably still be lazy) motivation escaped him. He woke when he wanted, but in an effort to live up to his title played Kikombe for a while.

Besides, whenever he awoken from such a long and rejuvenating rest he was often hungry to feel the dirt shift between his paws again. Needless to say when he spied Taji batting around the shell his interests piqued and he dashed over happily. His tail swooshed madly and he eyed the field to see if any of the other players had also decided they were interesting in playing.

It had been some time since the coalition had... Disbanded. On one paw, Bonbon felt lost and without direction again. On the other, he wasn't surprised. He'd seen it coming, not too terribly long after he'd gotten there. Sure, he tried to help things from going bad, but it hadn't helped and the truth was in how inevitable it was. Now he simply... Wandered.

So it was that the brown cheetah found his way to the lands where animals played with turtle shells. He looked around, eyes beginning to dance. Oh, this place was rather fun looking! He couldn't resist sticking around! And... What was that lion DOING?

Curiosity niggling its way into the cheetah, he wandered over, ears up and twitching, before the cub in him took over. His front dropped down, and he began to crawl, before he broke into a run, jumping at the shell. "Ahaha!" He wanted to get it!

User Image

The brown cheetah wasn't the only one who'd wandered in, but this one had wandered from a decidedly more predicted direction. The racing seasons were still off-kilter in the Makono lands, and Dark Star found herself wandering on into the allied pride's lands. The two had similar sorts of ideals - They existed for a game, though different games they were. While the Makono were there to race, especially the cheetahs, the Kikombe were there to play... Well, Kikombe. She'd never been before the drought happened, and now she came out of curiosity, the ample rains having been grounds for the leadership to let the cheetahs wander a bit. She knew, though, that not far behind was a hyena, guarding her from threats.

The white-marked dark cheetah found a spot to sit down, watching in mild amusement as the brown lion and the dark brown cheetah appeared to be playing with a shell. Was this Kikombe? Or was she just catching an odd moment?

Taji hummed to himself as he batted the shell around. It had been two full years now since he'd been a player, and although he wasn't as in shape as he had been, he still had his skills. He went through some of the most basic passing drills he'd learned as a cub, front left paw to back right, up to the front right paw and down to the back left. He added a bit of flair to it as he noticed he had a crowd, passing right between his own legs, only to stop the shell with his tail and curl it around quickly to his front paws once again. Looking up, he caught sight of a few cheetahs eyeing him thoughtfully, and a familiar mane of fading blueish purple made him grin.

His attention was caught by an enthusiastic cheetah who bounded forward, his bright eyes on the shell. With a laugh he crouched low, glad someone was willing to jump in with him. Now, though, he'd try to bring others in for the fun of it while they waited. "Aka!" he called out, swatting the shell towards the cheeton with expert accuracy.

Now that he didn't have the shell, he lifted his head and nodded to the two spectators, recognizing one of them from the racing pride not too far off. The other, however, he'd never seen before, and from the looks of it he'd never seen Kikombe before, either.

"Welcome, welcome!" he called out to the cheetahs. "Don't be shy! Come play while we wait!"

Game 1

Welcome to the first game of many. In this round, we'll be playing for one of the twin hyena girls!

User Image

This game is very simple! Roll a dice 1-6 for your next post(s). The person with the highest total score wins our first prize. This will go for one day, so get as many posts in as you can! No double posting, obviously, and anyone is welcome to join in whenever they want. You don't need to play with the shell to post, and if you have no one to interact with, Taji will be more than happy to talk to you.

Aka was caught off guard when Taji swung the shell, however he grin in satisfaction when he caught it. Feeling the texture of the shell underneath his paw he anticipated that the unfamiliar cheetah would charge for him at full throttle. He intended on making things interesting, or at the very least amusing for spectators; and running around the edge of the crowd he dragged the shell with him before stopping and sending it forward.

His ears perked up and his face rose as he yipped "Head's up!" Praying the cheetah would know what to do. Although one didn't need to know much about Kikombe to grasp the basics of the game. In Aka's mind it was easy to imagine: Chasing a shell around, occasionally aiming for goals. Nothing to complicated right? It shouldn't have been difficult for strangers to be able to play. Particularly if Aka went easy on them!

But not all strangers saw it the way Aka did. Strangers after all, weren't raised from the moment they could walk to enjoy competing over this sport. Some were confused why they even bothered, while others were intrigued by it. All in all Aka couldn't grasp whatever was so complicating about it. As stated before to him it was simple and easy to understand.

Hopefully, his eyes lit up as he watched the shell twirl, this cheetah had a similar mindset as his own.

Jala watched as the shell got kicked around, rolling and bouncing about. His ears pricked with interest, and his toes wiggled, as if his paws were eager to jump in. Jala however wasn't quite ready to join in. He still didn't understand the premise, and he felt it best to leave the playing to those who knew most about it. But then the large lion called to him and another cheetah, inviting them to come play... while they waited? Waited for what? Jala was so confused! However, he'd been specifically invited to join in, and he really didn't want to disappoint his hosts by refusing to participate.

Hesitantly he padded forward, tail low and uncertain, ears swiveling. He glanced back at the female cheetah who had also been invited in. "Are you... going to join in?" he asked hesitantly. He wasn't really all that timid, but playing a game without knowing the rules was slightly nerve-wracking. He'd appreciate the company of someone who also didn't know the game. He turned back to watch the shell being batted back and forth, lowering his head with his eyes fixed on the movements of the object. Perhaps... perhaps he'd try to dart in and steal it. His tailtip twitched and his haunches lowered. Would he do it?

Aka watched in amusement as Jala darted forward an intercepted his pass to the other cheetah. "Ooh, nice." He said to himself mostly, but loud enough for others to hear. He didn't recognize Jala either, had he just arrived in the pride? Or was he another visitor? Curious, he leaned forward with his ears piqued to hear any interesting facts that the crowd might have exchanged.

To his disappointment Aka realized he was to far away from the bulk of the crowd, and instead started to refocus on the game. His tail swayed on the ground, collecting dirt in it's furry tuff as Aka swooshed it against the dirt. He hunched down, his shoulders poking out as he kneaded the ground in preparation for pouncing.

He then jumped, with intent of charging towards Jala. Cheetahs were rather agile and could dodge being rammed into. They were ideal offence player, and Aka knew this well. They could avoid people like Aka who attempted to keep the cheetah's paws off the shell by quickly darting around them. Aka himself was half cheetah. But because of his lion DNA he had realized many moons ago he simply sucked at dodging. He more often take hits than he could avoid them. Now, he wondered, would Jala do the same?

Game 2

All right, time for our next game! This time we'll be playing for our second prize, the male klipspringer that rounded up all the lost cubs and pups and brought them to the Kikombe!

User Image

Again, this game is nice and simple. Roll 2 6-sided dice. The first person to get doubles wins! For example, if you roll two dice and get 4, 4, you win! It can be any of the numbers, 1-6. This game ends when someone gets the winning roll. Please wait for someone else to post before you post again.

After this game we'll start with slightly more involved games, so keep an eye out! Good luck!

Jala had decided to attempt to steal the shell and had somehow succeeded. He was quite astonished, and batted at the ball uncertainly after getting it away from the other male. This was... kinda fun, actually! He was starting to get into batting it around, enjoying the odd sound it made as it rolled along, and the somewhat erratic way it rolled. He was unaware for the most part of the oncoming charge, until the last moment he caught sight of the deliberate movement out of the corner of his eye. There was movement everywhere, with the milling crowd all around, so it hadn't caught his attention until the other was nearly on top of him.

Giving a screeching yowl of startlement and dismay, Jala promptly abandoned the shell and bolted. He was no fighter, and his first thought was that the hybrid male was angry that he'd 'stolen' the shell. Swift and surefooted, the fire-marked male shot through the crowd as if his tail really was on fire! He finally slowed some distance away as he realized he wasn't being chased. Looking back, jaw dropped and tongue curled in a heavy pant that was more fear and anxiety than truly being out of breath, he saw to his surprise... no pursuer. Puzzled and worried, he slid back through the crowd, circling around to come from behind the big lion who had first had the shell. Peeking around him, Jala saw to his astonishment that there was no apparent anger on the hybrid male's face, and that he was animatedly playing with the shell again. What in the world was this game?

Kalakonji couldn't believe he was running so late- one thing he NEVER ran was late! But it had been a bit of an accident- he had been out practicing his hunting and he had ended up losing track of time. There was something just really entrancing about sneaking up on prey, monitoring its every move for that perfect moment. He had been doing it for hours. Finding a herd and sneaking in.

He loved the chase, too. It was more fun than the set-up, if he was honest. Leaping into action and pushing every muscle in his body to ensure he captured his target. Of course, he hadn't actually caught anything, as he hadn't been hunting and wouldn't kill just for the sport, but he knew he WOULD have caught them, and that was the important thing.

By the time he had finally remembered he had somewhere to be, he had ended up a little tardy to the party. Coming to a stop, the large leopard looked around, smiling at the other members of the pride who had already gathered and were playing some games.

"Hello!" He called to anyone who might hear him, "what have I missed?!" He wandered forward towards the group, watching some of the other pride members tossing something around. Looked like fun! Was that one of the games they were going to be playing?
