After all the things that had happened recently, Jove was almost surprised to wake up and realize he was more or less... himself. Things felt remarkably normal. His foxfires lay all over the room like fluffy lumps, unaware of all the bad things in the world. His mushrooms cast a soft glow in the dim light, just like always. His room was exactly as he had fallen asleep in it.

He was still the same little ghost, but... if he looked real hard inside himself... there was a bit of lingering weirdness accompanying his new memories. But that was only natural after what he had been through, right?

Sneaking out before the foxfires stirred, Jove left the dorm and wandered around in the graveyard outside. A rustling in the grass nearby grabbed his attention, his ears turning curiously, and then he noticed a large, fat, grasshopper just sitting there, rubbing it's legs together. Then suddenly, it sprung away!

Jove followed, following it out of the graveyard and across the field.

Mathias was....well, confused was one word to describe it, and probably the most apt. He was glad to be back to Amity, to have woken up from that odd world of shadows and lost memories, of legacies, of weapons and strange foes. For most of his time in that place, he had been nothing but a silhouette of his actual self, and his behavior in that period was well....quite embarrassing.

Restless, Mathias found that he could no longer stand to be in his den any longer, and in an attempt not to think about it too much, had gone out onto the school grounds for a walk, a chance to stretch his legs a bit and work off some pent up energy. He considered changing into his natural form, but only briefly, as he was at least conscientious enough to realize that in a school with so many predators, his small and admittedly, probably quite delicious looking natural state might be a hazardous form to take.

So he had to just make due with the slightly uncomfortable two legged form he was forced into, and he did so by deciding to go for a bit of a light, early morning jog. He had doffed his boots and left them back in his dorm room, allowing his furred and slightly large sized feet the freedom to slap against pavement, stone, grass, dirt...whatever he chose, really, his black claws digging into the earth where they were able and kicking up light clouds of dust behind him, his body instinctively aiming to place him on more natural ground.

He had actually been at it for some time when he decided he no longer wished to be in student form, no matter what the risks, and taking off his pin allowed himself to shrink down in size, leaving in the place of the student a small, tan and grey bunny with wings tucked in against his back, red eyes half lidded as he enjoyed the warmth of the pumpkin sun against his fur.

Suddenly ears twitched and swiveled, and eyes opened slightly wider. A sound! His nose wiggled a bit as he craned his head upwards slightly, sniffing at the air. Mmmmmm, grasshopper! He realized in that moment that he was actually quite hungry, his mouth watering for food, his instincts to hunt kicking in. He used nothing more then his senses, which had honed in on the sounds of the grasshopper as it approached and somehow completely missed that it was being followed by something significantly larger.

Ghosts were ninja's, obviously.

He suddenly sprung out of the long grass that surrounded him, red eyes alight with hunger, aiming to capture the grasshopper between his clawed front feet if he was so capable of doing so.

Where at first there had only been grasshopper... Jove had been so singleminded in his curious pursuit, the approach of the wolpertinger had gone equally unnoticed. While the ghost smelt of nothing, the little monster had approached upwind and failed to tip off Jove's sensitive nose. And then suddenly it was too late.

Jove let out a squeak of surprise as the rabbit-like monster leapt out of the long grass and towards his grasshopper. It was not a fierce or many squeak. He flailed backwards and ducked into the long grass himself, until he was left peeking through the stems. Okay, so maybe he wasn't exactly as he had been before the whole mess with shadows and goddesses, he had spent far too much time mentally naked, without his protective memories to tell him how to be strong. And apparently he still spooked like a pup fresh from it's pumpkin.

Mathias was intent on capturing his prey, so much so that even after leaping out of the grass, in plain sight, his eyes locked on it's target, he still didn't quite notice the ghost boil that was also in pursuit of the grasshopper. It wasn't until the squeak, a sound that had his ears shifting towards it in surprise, his red gaze lifting, and his mouth, which had been opened just slightly to reveal fanged teeth, snapping shut, that he finally noticed that he wasn't alone.

Grasshoppers didn't squeak.

Apparently Jove did.

Surprised and a little bit flustered, the wolpertinger landed in a very ungraceful manner, one that had him tripping over feet and face planting so that he was caught with his fluffy rabbit behind up in the air, and his wings spread behind him. He let out a soft, grumbling growl, eyes closed, and very much not wanting to open them again anytime soon because how embarrassing.

Almost as embarrassing as skipping about like a child capturing shining, floating objects. That memory in particular he wished he had forgotten, instead of other things.

Wings folding in behind him, he pushed himself back up to his feet, proceeding to stand on hind legs, silvery and tan mixed fur covered in dirt from his tumble, then with an inward sigh, he fell back to four legs and hopped forward to see if Jove was okay, shoving aside the other things, the alternate world things, that he didn't wish to focus on. He didn't know if the ghost boil considered him a friend or not, but he at least wanted to make sure he wasn't hurt.

What the wolpertinger would find was Jove kneeling in the long grass, his mouth covered by his hands, and a glowing blush on his cheeks. Literally, glowing. The little wisp seemed just as embarrassed by the situation.

He seemed ready to back away, but then a speculative expression crossed his face. And then there was a head tilt. It didn't take him too long to come to the correct conclusion, that this was indeed his sparring partner from before, and his... 'shadow companion' from all those memories. He sat back in a more relaxed position and his head tilted the other way as though asking "'Sup?"

Was Jove...blushing? It took the wolpertinger back a bit, his own cheeks warm but conveniently hidden by silver and tan mixed fur. It was at least a tiny bit comforting to know that they were both adequately embarrassed by what had just occurred, and he took it to mean that the other boil hadn't been hurt in anyway.

But still, just to be sure, he took another hop forward, then lifted up a front foot to set on Jove's knee, then leaned up towards him, nose wiggling as he sniffed around for...something. Blood ,perhaps. He used his eyes to look the other boil over as well, but no injuries were apparent.

He also noticed that Jove really didn't smell like anything, Jove why didn't you smell like anything? His nose wrinkled up and he flopped back down, removing his foot and narrowing his eyes, ears twitching a little in a mix of confusion and irritation.

And then he rammed the other boil in the knee with his horned head.

Jove watched with a curious expression as the wolpertinger sniffed, and sniffed and sniffed, surely Matty was not trying to come to a similar conclusion? He had heard of students with missing memories but... Could he have forgotten their fight? It was a really good one...

The little ghost's brows furrowed, until suddenly he was headbutted quite fiercely.

His response was automatic, one fist coming down quite firmly on the monster's rabbit-like head in a bonk that was mostly reserved for his brother's antics. His expression was quite indignant, with only a little regret, normally he didn't bonk just anyone. But Matty had started it!

Mathias was a little bit lucky at that moment that his head was quite hard and his skull quite thick when Jove's fist came bopping down on top of his head. It still hurt, and he still winced cringed down, his ears flattening back. His lip pulling back from his teeth, he let out a disgruntled growl. What the heck had that been for? His head butt had only been a friendly greeting! Or at least, as friendly as a greeting from Mathias in his natural form ever gave....

Maybe he just hadn't done it hard enough!

He headbutted Jove again.

At that point, his brother would have resorted to whining, not going right back to it. Jove's ears perked forward. Was it an invitation? Maybe it was fight time again!

The little pup glanced around, as though making sure there were no other students in the area. No... witnesses. And then suddenly he wasn't a child anymore. Instead he was tiny. And fluffy. A little pup of a foxfire with stubby little legs, and big blinky eyes.

With cheerful abandon, Jove darted forward and headbutted his friend in return. It wasn't often he got to play with friends his own size, even his foxfires preferred games of chase and tug of war.

Mathias wasn't sure what to expect after the second time he rammed himself against Jove with his forehead. He was hoping it wouldn't be met with another firm bop to his head, but he braced himself just in case, eyes squinting in preparation.

And then suddenly....Jove wasn't Jove anymore? Or well...he was, but he was small and fluffy and Mathias's eyes widened a little at the sight. He hadn't known that the ghost boil could do that! Though really, he had wondered about the tail and ears a little bit.

A foxfire. Just a pup, by the look of it, but Mathias was only an adolescent wolpertinger himself, with a bit (or hopefully quite a bit) of growing left to do.

He might have still been a little stunned and thus slow to respond when foxfire Jove darted forward and headbutted against him in return, an action that sent his underprepared self stumbling back from it, but his surprise quickly wore off as he realized the possibilities that could be born from them both being in smaller forms.

He attacked in retaliation, though in a mostly gentle and playful manner, launching himself at Jove and attempting to pin him down, only using his claws a little.

Jove considered his headbutt a success! It never worked too well against his brother, even in his relatively larger child form, but the delight at actually catching Mathias off guard enough to 'gain some ground' was more than enough to make up for showing his true foxfire self to another student.

The little foxfire darted away from the play-attack at the last second, those claws catching only ghostly fluff. And then in a fit of puppy-zooms he zipped around the wolpertinger. He wasn't intent on starting a chase though, as the next moment he ran up with one paw upraised, ready to puppy-swat Mathias if he was fast enough.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 03, 2013 5:30 pm

His attack a failure, Mathias felt his claws swiping through thin air, and possibly combing the barest edges of fluff, before Jove was away, darting around him in a speedy manner. His own kind were not slow, and were certainly agile enough despite wings that often got in the way, but a ghosts agility seemed to be a different thing altogether. Mathias jumped in place, spinning, attempting to follow his companions maneuvers, and might have lunged at him if it weren't for a paw that came straight for his face, giving him slap that instead of pulling away from, he snapped his teeth at, intent on catching it with at least one long fang.

This was in some ways both similar and very different from how he and his siblings might have played, though if his scars were any indication, things only started out playful for a short amount of time before becoming full out scraps. With this, though....it was like he didn't have to worry. Like he could have fun, and it could be a less aggressive and brutal kind of fun then he was more used to.

Unless, of course, Jove wanted it to get rough.

Jove had meant to puppysmack Mathias on the head, not in the mouth where the other boil's sharp teeth lay waiting! But it didn't put any sort of damper on those puppy zooms, the little ghost merely snapped his own jaws in the air, and with one paw trapped in the mouth of his 'opponent', he could only barrel into the wolpertinger with all the weight of a cotton ball.

Teeth snapped again, aiming for one of the long ears. For the sake of gentle play it was best if he missed, the pup's teeth were sharp and needle-like... But that ear was such a tempting target!
PostPosted: Sat Sep 07, 2013 8:14 pm

His teeth clamped down on a small paw, but it was hard for him to even tell how hard he should bite, considering there was very little to actually taste. Plus, he had a load of fluff in his face, a situation that only became worse when Jove barreled into him, blinding him completely.

And then suddenly needle like teeth were piercing into his ear, and he let out a small hiss of pain from around the paw he was still determined to hold on to, reflexively pulling as though to tear his ear away. His ears had scars like the rest of him did, in the form of fang like bite marks and thin lines provided by sharp claws. This was not an unfamiliar sensation by any means.

He sucked in a deep breath through his nose as best as he could amidst all of the wispy ghost fluff, and bit down harder on the paw.

Let it be a game of who could hold out the longest.

Had the other boil let out a noise of protest, like Ren's undignified squawking, or otherwise reacted in a displeased manner, Jove would have let go immediately. But no, this sounded like a fight!

The little ghost pup's tail wagged as he searched for something firm under his paws that wasn't rabbit, and then with the ear still in his teeth, shook his head enthusiastically like a foxfire shaking a rope toy.

Then puppy zooms got the better of him again, he tried to dart away only to fall stupidly on one side. He had forgotten his paw was trapped...
