She was getting dangerously close to the start of the school year, and scholarship essays were due at midnight tonight. Samantha really wanted to get into Crystal Academy though and stared blankly at the open word document that had been staring blankly back at her for the last few days. Ever since her conversation with Colomba her desire to go to the elite girls school had only intensified by about ten million percent. She had had several lengthy conversations with her parents about it and after they had both looked at the tuition prices and their bank accounts, the verdict was a simple resounding no. Or at least for her to go the route of the spoiled rich girl.
That of course brought her back to here. Sitting draped over the computer chair in the living room, hoping and praying some sort of inspiration came to her so she could write this essay, get a scholarship and start living the dream in the absolutely stunning Crystal Academy uniform. The teen sighed wistfully, closing her eyes once again and imagining the glory of it all. Living in a dorm, being able to go where she wanted when she wanted…and being in high school! Clearly there was nothing in the whole world even half as great as high school was going to be. She would be able to get a boyfriend one day soon, and her dad wouldn’t be able to say anything about it! Maybe she would even go out patrolling or whatever, hanging out with that kid Orin. Goretti. Whatever he wanted to be called. They could kill bad guys together or whatever they were supposed to do.
It would all be like a dream. But first. First she had to get there. And she was quickly running out of time.
Samantha plunked her fingers down on the keyboard, making a face at the computer screen, hoping that that would shock the stupid electronic into just typing a stellar essay for her. It wouldn’t be that difficult now, would it? This was the last piece to the puzzle of getting the scholarship, her grades met the mark and her attendance record was good as well…now she just had to wow that committee.
But maybe what she really needed was a quick few rounds of Candy Crush to calm her nerves. It had been at least twenty minutes since she had last played it…so she should have at least one level ready and waiting. A few swift clicks of the mouse minimized the blank word document and soon her screen was filled with colorful candies and stupid invading chocolate bars but hey. At least she was having fun now. Besides. It had been at least a week since she had gotten to move anywhere in the game, so this wouldn’t take too terribly long. Until she ran out of moves, she was free to play.
Unfortunately the game did not last her as long as she had hoped and once again she was having a staring contest with the computer. This wasn’t rocket science. All she had to write was a five hundred word essay on what she wanted to accomplish during her academic career. Why was this such a big deal? What did she want to do? Life her life? Wear cute clothes? Meet cute boys?
No. The committee wouldn’t be impressed with that. Not at all. Samantha sighed, placing her fingers lightly on the keyboard once again. She could always fluff the paper. Make herself seem like the model student. Wasn’t that really the point of most essays anyway? Make them sound amazing and really just not care in the slightest?
Finally the brunette began to type, and quick as a flash she was done. That hadn’t taken more than twenty minutes.
With a heavy, heavy sigh the teen saved her essay and attached it to an email, which she promptly sent off to the scholarship committee. Now all she could do was wait. Wait and play some more Candy Crush.
