User ImageThere was something about the season of summer that made one's heart feel light. Although Aolani was still missing the familiar presence of Nemesis there was a new distraction that she had received, courtesy of Hina'ea. Her lifemate had come across a young hummingbird that she had quickly taken to calling Rhea. A gust of wind ruffled the feathers in her mane and Aolani sighed just as quickly before attempting to coral the faster-flying Rhea.

She had to believe that Rhea was just as fascinated with her or why would she remain by her side. She was old enough to go her own way but she refused to leave the area. Aolani secretly hoped that she could open her own wings once again and fly as freely as Rhea seemed to be doing. A ripple of laughter caught the mare by surprise before she trotted gently towards her newest companion. Her colorful eyes took her the sight of the little bird zooming every which direction before plopping down on the ground. Once again it seemed as if Rhea had quickly used up all her energy for the day.

Aolani knelt to the ground and gently nosed Rhea's side before sighing. Soon the days shortening would become more pronounced. Summer was beginning to come to a close. Winter would eventually follow and as much as she yearned for the seasons to change to fall and bring about the date that she'd first met Hina'ea ... it pained her to see summer come to an end. Summer was the time for spontaneous gaiety and days spent frolicking. Winter was a time that was meant for more somber occasions and making sure that one was tough enough to survive another year.

The warmth from the sun lulled Aolani into a relaxed mood. The mare felt her eyes flutter shut just as she felt a gentle flutter of wings against her nose as Rhea seemingly found her second wind. Lassitude spread through her body as she opened one eye to watch Rhea flit about once again. There was no rush to resume chasing after the delicate creature for now. Rhea would return. Aolani gave a deep sound of contentment before letting her eyes close. The rumors that she had heard from others briefly rose to her conscious mind as she dozed. Was change going to be forced on the land once again? Aolani rolled to her side and pushed the disturbing warning deeper down until all she registered was the sun's warmth on her body, the scent of the grass underneath and the gentle sounds of nature around her before she completely drifted off. She would think about more serious thoughts when she awoke from her sleep. Then she could decide want to do.
