The spark of light, the little wisp that floated away from his body guided him and he followed obediently, unsure of as to why. It felt like he should, as though that small little light were a great power that commanded everything from him. He followed into the light mist, past little slivers of silver trees and ending up at a great tree. It spoke to him of its needs, and desires, commanding him to help. He would, of course. He felt obliged to.

The forest cleared as he continued down the path, ending at a small lake with silver trees and white orbs or light all circling it and the orbs dancing around it. He heard a hum, a low whisper from the lake and he put his head under the water to hear what it was. It was the tree again, that feminine voice telling him he needed to water her children. He was pulled up by an orb, and cupped his hands to fill them with water. Some of it spilled as he took it to the tree, but all in all he'd done a pretty good job of keeping it in hand. He poured it on the tree, and it gave him a thanks before withering and producing an acorn. He buried the acorn on impulse, and went back to the lake.
Plunging his head in again, he was told to take hold of the memories that spawned in the water. They were his, but not his. They were familiar, but not. They all held his face, so he reached out and grabbed...

98 Kills. Alexei the Lion had killed 98 different people, all placed in front of him for the simple task of entertaining the rich and the cruel. This was the Arena, and the Arena was life. He breathed the Arena, ate the Arena, was the Arena. He and the Arena were one. They told him that at 99 kills, he'd be released from the Arena.
He didn't want to change his life. He was the Arena, how could they separate him from himself? They couldn't. The Arena was life.
His 99th opponent, and kill, was himself.

He and Godfrey, the baby bear that he could summon, were very close friends. Lex didn't go anywhere without summoning Godfrey first, and only then would he come out of his shell and talk to people and do things. Godfrey gave him his confidence, gave him a voice. Lex was mute when Godfrey was away, a scared five year old in the body of a thirty year old man. They'd thought Lex was mute until he was thirteen, when he first summoned Godfrey and they talked for hours and hours and bonded like no other.
Lex loved Godfrey, and Godfrey loved him.

He'd shot the sheriff, and the deputy. He'd shot every corrupted law enforcer in the town, and was standing in the middle of the road with his bandoleer of bullets and twin ivory pistols ready to shoot the next of the unruly banditos from the neighboring town of Hallow that got up the guts to attack. He was an outlaw now, a vigilante. He protected the city of Dem, he was the law.
He was the dust and the wind, the sun at noon and the howling coyote at night.
The banditos came, and they all fell. He was the true cowboy of the west.

Baffled by the memories of alternate selves, Lex bestowed them to the tree and watched it grow up before him, swaying slightly in the breeze. He smiled and patter the tree, rubbing it's bare branches between his thumb and his forefinger, like one would the ears of a beloved dog.

He returned to where the lake had been, jaw dropping at what he saw. Pools of water all over the place, spilling their contents everywhere. In the distance was a castle, beautiful and shining. The voice came again, reverberating inside his soul. It asked for him to take her blessing and give more water to her children. He nodded, bending down to take water from the warm pool in front of him.

Warm, happy memories bubble over from the pool, filling him with their contents. He remembered his first date with Ami, his first encounter with Solia, sparring with Kat, spending the day with Wilson, doing pull-ups with Evan, and even the one time he'd gotten Eva completely off her rocker drunk. He laughed as he poured the water onto the tree, and it grew and grew.
"Are you happy with what I've become?"
"Yes, I am. I hope you're as happy as what I've put into you." He laughed, patting the tree's trunk. Happiness... he cherished it.
