Silvery trees were all around. Shun wasn't entirely certain what had guided him here, but here he was now. With a furrowed brow, he looked around carefully, only pausing before hearing a feminine voice speak out to him. This was a part of her legacy, she claimed. He wasn't too certain what to make of that just yet.

Shaking his head to himself, he continued on until he managed to find a lake within the forest. There was a soft voice singing from somewhere nearby, though he couldn't quite make it out fully. Slowly, he approached the water and dipped his hands into it.

"Heal my children," it chimes, "And when you do I will give you a gift of immeasurable value. That is my only wish and my only desire. Take these waters and carry them to my children."

Looking up, he turned and scanned about. This voice must be speaking of the trees. There wasn't anything else around that he could see that might need water. Deciding that he didn't have anything to lose, he scooped up some liquid, then carried it over to the nearest bit of foliage. Dropping the fluid at its base, Soon, the tree trembled and dropped an acorn at his feet. The tree itself soon withered away, only leaving this small gift.

Shun picked up the acorn; it was a fair size, though nothing particularly spectacular about it.

[Acorn size: 10mm]

From behind, Shun heard the spirits of the lake speaking once again. He made his way over and knelt down by the water. These trees needed memories, from the sound of things.

Dark bubbles could be seen from below the surface. Cautiously, he dipped his hands in to pick one up.

Quote:

Sitting upon horseback, Shun peered over the dusty horizon, down towards the town below. It was a bit of a shithole, that place. But it was the closest thing he could call home nowadays. Sheriff Mot did what he could to keep things afloat, and his word was the law. That much, he couldn't really give a s**t about. There were things he wanted to protect here, and he was going to do things his own damn way if he could help it.

Turning the horse, he soon broke off into a full gallop. It was now dusk, and he had some ground to cover. He knew where one of the brigands' hideout was. Mot had warned him to stay away, but he wasn't about to take heed to that.

Those men were better off dead. And around here, if you wanted something done, you needed to take things into your own hands. It wasn't like this was his first rodeo anyway. Eventually, he drew near the camp, and it was here that he slowed his horse to a halt. Dismounting, he carefully went to approach.

The bandits were all around a fire, telling stories as they ate some hare. It also sounded like they were getting ready to try and get in another raid on the town. Shun had come at a good time, then. He crept on closer to the group, drawing out the two guns he had with him. They hadn't noticed him yet. Good. Narrowing his eyes, he let out a slow breath as he gathered up his focus.

Now or never. They had the numbers, but he had an advantage here. He mentally gave off a countdown, then inched out from around the rock he hid behind. Taking aim, he fired off two shots. Two bandits were killed immediately. But there were still four left. And now they were on alert. Shun ducked back down as they took up arms.

They hadn't started firing yet. They were waiting.

Looking around, he tried to see where he could go next. There wasn't really much cover around here. Shaking his head to himself, he bolted out from his hiding spot, firing off several rounds. They began to retaliate as well. So far, he was lucky. He managed to take down another of the bastards. The gunfight lasted a little while longer. The rest of the hooligans were cleaned up, but not without consequence.

Shun was now slowly making his way back to his horse. The deed was done, and now it was time to head back. He had been shot a couple of times, so he wasn't in a very good state at the moment. He was bleeding quite a bit, actually. Still, he had to try and get back to town if possible. The horse at least knew the way back. He just needed to focus on not falling off along the way.

Slumping forward, he closed his eyes. His steed would get him there in time. He just... needed...rest...

Furrowing his brow, Shun lightly frowned as he witnessed this odd memory. It was as if he had been in another time. Though, it didn't seem like he was doing too well in that particular scene. With a sigh, he offered it to his acorn. The memory caused it to sprout a little.

The tree needed more, so Shun went on and grabbed another bubble. As he touched it, another scene played out in his mind.

Quote:

In this deep, dank, cave, they all sat around in a circle, planning their next actions. The horsemen were the ones who had caused this world to go to hell, and Seeds was going to bee the one to stop them if they could. Shun stared down at the map of the twisted lands that the human world had become. With the way the horsemen were parading about doing whatever the hell they pleased, it wouldn't be long before there wouldn't be any humans left.

After that, it would be a matter of time before they went extinct as well. He couldn't let this happen. Not just for his own sake, but for his friends. And especially for Mitsu.

Fighting them directly was stupid. The horsemen had more numbers and with the fear they were cultivating, they had more resources as well. But working in the shadows was something Shun was able to do well enough. So far, they've managed to get some ground. They started out attacking caravans where the horsemen were transporting their human slaves to various lairs.

It was a little ironic that he found himself freeing hunters on some occasion. The temptation to let them die to the horsemen was tempting. Some old grudges had never left him, after all. But that wasn't a part of the job now. They needed to fight to preserver all of humanity, and in turn, preserving Halloween.

From there, they managed to launch raids on smaller, weaker lairs. These always took a great deal of coordination and planning. They weren't always successful. Sometimes they were forced to retreat, but they wouldn't give up. It was this sort of raid they were planning now. They needed to get in, free as many humans as they could, then plant the bombs. From some of the hunters they had freed, they managed to figure out a way to create runic bombs on a smaller scale. It was highly dangerous. If one of their own were caught in the blast at all, it'd probably mean the end for them.

They've caught the attention of the horsemen with their resistance movement. But they've managed to avoid their wrath in full thus far...

Next to him sat Mitsu. She wasn't quite the innocent girl that he first met. While she still had a gentile side to her, she had hardened quite a bit. She was one of their most reliable runners too, able to get things places quickly.

As they all conversed over how they were going to take down this lair, a sudden shout could be heard from the entrance of their hideout. It was their lookout. Everyone stood up, taking what arms they could.

"The horsemen! They've found us! Ru--AAAH!"

Narrowing his eye, he was about to run to fight. The only thing that stopped him was a grasp at his wrist. Turning, he saw Mitsu there, shaking her head. No. They needed to get out. They could fight another day. Cursing under his breath, he took her hand and they fled with the other Seed members, heading on out their back exit.

Once out in the open, they came to a halt. The horsemen were here.

They were surrounded.

Rolling a 9: Your character only knows about the Arena. They exist in the Arena, they fight in the Arena, they are slaves in the Arena. Every single day, they live, caged, watching countless faces also get roll in, and countless faces die. Every single day they wait for their 99th kill. They are on kill 98. Tomorrow will be kill 99. Tomorrow, they will face -

Shun wasn't so certain he liked these memories so much. But the tree needed more. Shaking his head, he fetched another to feed it.

Quote:

The sound of chains could be heard. It was almost time for Shun to fight once more. This was the only life he knew. The only skills he had involved killing, and this, he was good at. Ninety-Eight lives he had claimed now. He would have lost count, if it weren't for the scorekeepers that maintained this arena.

His opponent soon was a spear wielder, by the name of Hel, who was also on her 98th kill. It was going to be the deathmatch of the decade. Two of the arena's best fighters were about to be pitted against one another. And only one would survive.

He would not underestimate her, for she would probably be his greatest challenge yet. But he was going to be the one to leave that fight alive.

Closing his eyes, he meditated.

Tomorrow, his daggers would drink her blood, just as they have for 98 others.

After he was done, Shun looked to see that his sapling was growing strong. He soon turned back towards the lake, only to find that there was a castle in the distance that wasn't there before. His mouth dropped open a little, as he wasn't sure where that had come from. Before he could think much of it, the female voice spoke to him once more.

She offered him water from one of the many pools in this area. Looking between the various pools, he soon approached the cold pool.

Several memories bubbled up within his mind. Cold. Chilling. Painful. It wasn't anything he wasn't really already familiar with. He closed his eye and offered it to his tree. Much to his surprise, a dragon had formed, coiling around it. The beast spoke to him, asking if he was satisfied.

Yes. He supposed he was.

It was then that he felt the blessing of the goddesses bestowed upon him.
