She didn't know why she trusted the little will-o-wisp, but she did. It had a jingly sort of air to it, one that suggested nothing but the utmost innocence. It was sort of like Ying, actually.

It didn't fail her. The little wisp led her to a lovely grove, one that was mystically pleasant. Immediately a sense of peace came over her as she looked around, leaning into the mist that formed at her feet. Trees loomed around her, but they weren't intimidating. In fact, they seemed to welcome her, leading her deeper into the grove. Their twisting branches were barren, fraught with a time long past. Perhaps it was part of the magic- maybe it was meant to be this way.

It was huge. Ying was only able to see the top of it due to its lack of leaves- had it been pregnant with foliage, she wouldn't have seen past the second later. Ying pressed her hands to the trunk, feeling a warm sort of life within it. "Beautiful," she gasped, trying to contain her wonder.

"At last. At last, someone has arrived to hear my tale. It has been so long, I have been silence too long, taken and hidden, my power feared but not respected, cultivated until I am barren and empty. This is all that remains of my Legacy, but I am not finished, not yet. As long as my powers remain, my children will prosper after me. They will take up my mantle, to protect, to serve, to remember, and to grieve. Men like the Great King will rise again, and fall just as easily, but I only wish to serve. Come now. Help me fulfill my last desire."

Ying nodded slowly, not fully understanding what the voice spoke of. "I only wish to serve too!" Finally, someone who understood. Though the role of king was great, the role of servant was necessary. "I'll do my best!"

Her task was set before her. Ying waited at the large tree for further instructions for a moment or two before realizing that now it was time for her to continue on her own. She felt a bit lost, wandering without a guide, but the grove comforted her. She wasn't really alone- that's how she felt.

A lake splayed before her, splattering the landscape with white lights and a soft glow. Once more, Ying found herself gasping at the splendor of the area. Truly this white figure had outdone herself. A voice called from the water, a soft lullaby it seemed. The hum of the voice reverberated on every inch of the water, calling her closer, closer.

Before Ying realized it, she was standing in the middle of the water, head submerged in the warm water.

"Heal my children. And when you do I will give you a gift of immeasurable value. That is my only wish and my only desire. Take these waters and carry them to my children."

Ying nodded dreamily, trapped in the trance of the lady's spell. She wanted to stay longer, wrapped in the woman's voice, but the orbs began pulling her out. "No ... no, please let me stay ... please ..." Greedily, Ying pulled at the water, capturing it in her little shadowy dress, keeping what she could of the voice with her. It would have to do- there was no other way to go on.

She walked for a moment, shuffling awkwardly with her pool of water, until she came across a tiny sapling. Ying gave a soft smile, bending over and pouring the liquid on to the needy tree. One acorn was all she received in return for her gift of the voice.

"Thank you, little tree. It is enough." The tree shuddered in response, a tiny voice whispering thank you. Peculiar- but Ying didn't think to question it. Her eyes were wrapped on her tiny little acorn. It was her precious tree. Her child.

Ying once more found herself being carried away by the whim's of the white lady. She didn't mind though- being coddled was nice sometimes.

"My children need time to grow, to move on from my Grief. Help them create their own Legacy and feed them each unique memories."

She leaned over the edge of the pool. Memories? She could give memories. For the white lady, she could give anything. Ying watched, waiting for something marvelous to happen. In a way, it was magical, but it was subtle. The bubbles began to surface, brimming with memories she'd held of a time long past. No ... wait, it wasn't ... quite right ...

Maybe it would be better if she just dropped out. This had been a terrible decision, after all. She was going to die here at Pigfarts, probably beat up by one of the larger kids. She wouldn't be good at magic either- there was no way Rumbleroar was going to let her ride around on his back. She'd just be sent straight back to Earth- back where she belonged.

The crowd thrummed around her, humming with excitement, anxiety, nervousness, nostalgia.

"Please not Serpentarius ... I am much more suited for Pegasi. I'm not very smart, but I promise to do good things ... just not Serpentarius," she muttered under her breath. A few Serpentarius alumni gave her a nasty look. Great, she'd made her first enemies and she hadn't even been sorted yet.

Four_Petals moved stealthily under the cover of night. They were going up against a major boss- the panda king of the seventh castle. There had been six whole castles before, and she and her crew had finally moved on to the final one.

They stood victorious over the boss now- Four_Petals hadn't been the final hit, which would have gained her her choice of loot. No, Four_Petals was subject to being a buffer class- she would always be a buffer class.

> u take it.

She stared at the words, confused.

> What do you mean?

> which loot do u want?

> ??? It was your kill, I can't pick?

> u've done this dungeon 40 billion times with us
> u deserve a final loot too lol

Four_Petals couldn't believe it. Someone was ... noticing her? She'd never even talked to this man before- he had a strange username. Oh_myyyyyy.

> Um
> Maybe the horns?
> If that's okay ...
> But really, you should take it!

> lol its np. lighten up.

> But why?

> cuz ur awesome. don't ask questions lol!

Behind the screen, Ying stood incredulous. She was a rather plain girly, dumpy- a little on the chubby side. She'd dropped all hobbies in place of this game- the friends she'd made on the site were her home anyways.

But of course, there came picking and teasing. She wasn't really popular in school, never seemed to say the right thing. She was too peckish, too easily pushed around to make any real solid friends. Yet here was someone saying he'd noticed all her hard work. That was all it took. One comment.

Ying wiped her wet cheeks.

> Thank you so much

> i told u its np. 1 more time?

Yes!

Ying tapped her hunting cap, trying to piece it together. There was a murder case- it needed to be solved. Her assistant, Jingson had been captured, strapped to a bomb, inevitably on the top of a very tall building somewhere.

If she didn't solve the crime now, all was lost ... "I need more time!"

"Oh no ... shh, shhh baby bunny," Ying whispered to the fluffy white creature in her arms. She stroke its ears lovingly, moving from the snow white fur to the black tips. "They're going to like you, yes. Don't worry, you're perfect." Was she giving herself a pep talk, or was it really for the rabbit?

She opened the door to her first school grade. Tons of children were playing everywhere- some with basic pigeons and lemurs. Others had rarer creatures- one even had a cheetah. There were a few that had pseudo-zodiacs- things like mice and boars- not true, but they were close.

All eyes turned on her as they noticed the rabbit in her hands. "Um ... h-hello," she said with a quiet voice, looking down and trying to squeeze her rabbit closer.

In a matter of seconds, children had crowded her, asking her questions.

"How'd you get a rabbit?"

"Nuh uh- that has to be a jackrabbit, right?"

"Can I pet it?"

"Can I borrow it?"

Ying's face felt hot with embarrassment. "Um .... if you could just ... p-please back up a little maybe um ..."

It was too many people. She could feel tears coming on. This wasn't special at all- this was humiliating and alienating. She hated being special. She hated standing out. This was the worst.

Harsh light through a tiny window was the only connection she had to the real world. Her time was spent idly watching the others around her get shifted from time to time. This one would lose a fight- she never saw him again. This one would win- a little bit closer to her cage.

To say that the window was the only light she knew was false. The most brilliant light she knew was that of the arena. When they brought her up to fight, it seemed the whole world lit on fire for a moment, blinding her. That was the moment she knew there was something more than the cages. She knew there was more to life than staring out a tiny little window.

Eyes fell on tiny scratch marks on the wall. Ninety-seven ... ninety-eight ...

Ninety-nine.

She was so close to freedom.

So close to something better.

Igny pulled herself from the bank, distracted by a warm feeling in her core. The goddesses were still watching her- even out here?

She smiled, looking to her tree.

It was a magnificent tree, one that she was quite proud of. "Hello, little one," she said fondly. The tree swayed in the wind, bending to her words. With tiny hands, she cupped the leaves and branches around her fingers. "You look beautiful. You're practically an adult tree!"

"Not quite."

Only then did Ying look up. She was greeted with an enormous palace, water pouring from every crevice of the scenery. Rocks were laced in between, but they weren't jagged, rough like the spire. They were smoothed over by time and water working in perfect harmony with one another.

"Take some of this water, and my blessing. This is my last request. Show my children your world so they will grow each unique and different."

Ying nodded, standing up and brushing herself off. She patted her little tree, saying, "I'll be back in a bit." The only problem was that Ying wasn't sure if that was true. When would she be back? Would she be back at all? What did it mean to show the tree her world?

She moved towards the pools, hesitant, worried. There were so many! Empty, cold, warm, hot, bubbling, smooth- how was she supposed to pick just one?

A scent caught her off guard. It was warm oolong tea- like a cup was right under her nose!

Ying looked around, finally finding the source. A tiny pool a few feet away was bubbling lightly with a hot springs warmth. It emanated the tea scent due to curled leaves that clung to its edges. It reminded her of Jing, her dear brother that she still had yet to find. "Ah ... this one. This is my world." With a gentle smile, she knelt down and picked up a scoop of water- it wasn't much, but hopefully it would be enough for the little tree.

Moving back to water the tree, Ying couldn't help but remember small bits of memories. Jing tucking her in. Ying taking care of him when he was sick. It had always been the two of them- even with parents, it was the two of them. It was a warm feeling that sat in her stomach, even as she poured.

Wisps curled around the tree, ghostly figures forming in the branches. It was a warm light, little glowing balls climbing the branches in place of leaves. It was a spectacular scene, like watching a lightbulb turn on very slowly.

"Are you satisfied with what I have become?"

Ying's face had been in a permanent smile the entire time. "Yes little one. I will always be proud of you." The wisp "leaves" shuddered in gratitude, swaying in the breeze lightly.

Once more, Ying pressed her hands against a tree. She felt the same warmth emanating from the tree, but this time she held pride in the fact that she'd caused it. "You are ready now, little tree. You no longer need me! Isn't that wonderful?"

There was no response. Instead she was greeted with a blessing from the goddesses. Was it still the goddess? Ying wasn't so sure anymore.
