The beast came out of nowhere, and Peyton gave a startled yelp as it went for her arm. She swung at it, by the blade of her hatchet went wide and all it really did was throw her off balance so the wyrm could pin her down, howling in her face. This was just great. Where was Taym when you needed him? Another day, another monster to fight, and it looked like Evan had come across this one not a moment too soon. He would have rushed in to kill it even if it hadn't been attacking someone. "Careful," he said in the girl's general direction, the bulk of his attention on distracting the monster in front of them. "These things bite." "No really?" She hissed, squirming out from under the thing as the new arrival distracted it. "I hadn't noticed that, but thanks for clarifying." Only after the explosion of sass did she realize who it was that had come to her aid. Evan. Evan who had left her hanging on a dummy in a training field. Evan who brought a wash of guilt, shame, and a need for redemption. She actually paled as she stared up at him before remembering there was a monster to kill, and it wasn't going to get that way without their help. She hacked at it with her hatchet, nailing it in the shoulder, and received a wing to the stomach for her efforts. Sasha rolled up and blatantly began eavesdropping. As she listened, she gripped her weapons and promptly unleashed a hearty amount of bullets into the creature. She quirked a brow at the two strangers - neither of whom she recognized, not that it really mattered. Evan turned to glare down at the ungrateful brat whose a** he had probably just saved from becoming monster chow and froze as he finally recognized who it was. He remembered choking on the dark water and the stupid, senseless betrayal and the tears running down her face. He was immediately tempted to leave her there to fight it out on her own--it was better than she deserved--but gunshots from behind him indicated that even if he did, she'd still have help. "s**t," Evan cursed, his distraction punished as the monster lashed out at him with sharp claws. "I can't help but feel like I should be helping that thing kill you," Evan snapped back as the dagger sliced into the creature. Shik liked to follow Evan. Not really, but hey he recognized the guy.
He also felt an odd but distinctly weird vibe coming from the three, but . . . for now, bleh. Monster.

Peyton cringed at the look directed down at her and it took more courage then she'd ever admit to not to simply run the ******** away from there. Away from him. "Evan, I.." What? What could she say. With out any memories she didn't know what she'd done, or why. Only that she'd felt horrible for it, and that she'd apologized, and that it hadn't been enough. She flinched, retreating back a step, before he wyrm slashed again and stole her attention. She swung at it, hitting it across the face. Seeing smoke plumes, Gywn went to investigate, only to see a monster attacking a group of people. Acting quickly, she summoned her scythe and laid into it, not letting it get a chance to counter. Then he tried from a different angle and just gutted the poor sucker before it went rampaging again.

"Save it," Evan replied with a thoughtful nod. "You should save it and be thankful that other people showed up to save your a**." There was no malice in his tone, only a calm matter-of-factness. He picked up a few of the shiny objects that fell off of the boss. "Thanks for the help, man," he said to Shikoba on his way out. ((+2 red vial))

He grunted in return, which was probably the best "you're welcome" someone was probably going to get out of Shik. He was not going to step into whatever that short thing was going on about, thanks.

Another flinch.
She wasn't supposed to be this nervous, this weak, but something about him, about what she remembered about him, left her feeling completely helpless. "Evan, wait." Again, she didn't know what to say to him, but watching him walk away stung. Everything about him stung.
But he didn't wait, and maybe that was for the best. Peyton watched him go, then bent and picked up a few of the shiny pieces left behind before turning and walking in the other direction.
She couldn't fix this, she didn't even know where to began.
