THE GAUNTLET - PART ONE
You dismount off your shadow-beast and run, taking cover. There must be several hiding, watching with bows drawn and arrows notched for any of your party to reveal themselves. You can hear the determined stomp and crash as others still search for your group on foot.
Your companion who was shot earlier is still there in the middle of the road. As you watch, they slowly begin to fade away. There was no time to pull them aside, to offer them last rights. And to be truthful, there are more pressing matters on your mind. You need to get out of there..
With a thud and a clank, the shadow Knight readies its blade. It says nothing, but it doesn't need to. Not when it is fighting with murderous intent!

The group remained close, hidden and out of sight of the fort. It was wise as Tyrei had called for them to take cover. Uru kept his hand on his sheath just as the others kept theirs close to their own weapons. This will not be easy, but it will be manageable if they kept communications cleared. As such; they kept low and moved along the fortress' shadows.
Inside, a knight stood before their path. Immediately, weapons came undone from their homes and readied for the battle ahead. With their collective might, they shot and slashed at the metal cloaked being.

While they could manage some good damage, there was something about this knight that was not right. They were doing relatively good damage, but it was hurting.
"Uru, stand back, let the range take care of it. We shall defend if it gets too close. Keep it at bay!" Tyrei called out as the twins; Adorian and Adarian kept their bows strung.

The knight was dealing significant damage to the group and they were only managing a few good hits on it. The arrows were ineffective and Tyrei was already changing the tactic.

"Adorian, Adarian, abandon your bows. Your daggers will do the best, come from the flanks! Uru, Curade, attack from the front and I will take the rear. Silf, wait for an opening!"

A blade to the flank was enough to have Curade withe back in a loud cry. Immediately Silf came to him to comfort and tend to the wounds the best she could. The others backed away, their edges pointed carefully at the fog-knight.
"Silf, tend to him, be quick about it." Tyrei spoke over his shoulder.
Uru watched from over his, his ears falling back. The attack was near fatal... their damage that they had sustained as taking their toll as well. A single armored knight against the seven of them...

(( Loot: ))
The group took a moment's rest to gather themselves, prepare for the next task, while Silf and Tyrei tended to Curade.
"Will he be alright?" The twins asked in unison.
Silf nodded with a heavy sigh and a smile. "Yes, but I will take his place should we run into trouble."
The group agreed and moved on.
After you gather your party and journey forth, you are greeted by a narrow hallway. It looks like a plain, ordinary hallway with slits and holes in the wall. One of your companions knees down and picks a pebble off the floor before tossing it in. With a mechanical roar the hallway springs to life as saws, spears, arrows, and all matter of traps rush out to eliminate the intruder.
"Tyrei... you are insane to get us into these predicaments."
The group nodded.
He but smiled and they rushed forward.
Trap 1: (pass) The first set of traps were falling axes triggered by pressure tiles on the hallway's floor. After the first few, Tyrei had decided that he was far enough and was leading the way, the others mimicked his movements with precise movements and avoided most of the axes with some close calls. Luckily, they all made it through with no damage but startled hearts.
"Come, we can't stand too long."
Trap 2: (pass) Just as their leader turned, a large log swung from one side of the wall to the other, just nearly taking his head. The group stared as the log smashed into the opposite wall.
"Is that it?" Adorian asked as Adarian shook his shoulder, pointing further ahead. The next portion of the hallway had logs strung up just like the one from before....
Tyrei moved first. "Stay low and move fast."
"Once they've hit the wall, give them time to relax as they'll stop. Trigger and stop." Silf added.
Trap 3: (fail) Arrows. It had to be arrows. Pressure tiles again and this one was a mad race to the next portion. However, unlike the others, this one left some of them walking with shafts sticking out of them.
"Deal with the pain, Silf will help mend us after."
Silf... the only one who seemed to be in pristine condition.
Trap 4: (pass) With a misstep, the tiles began to fall from under them into a needle-trap pit below. "RUN!" Someone shouted and that was all that they did. They didn't stop to look or hesitate, they simply ran over tiles. If it fell, they lept, if not they kept going. Tyrei stood on the other side, grabbing the hands of oustretched companions, pulling them safety.
Trap 5: (fail) Just as Tyrei pulled Feury off the floor, a spear grazed his shoulder, digging itself into the ground with a hard twang. Attached to it was double twisted rope... And just as it had sunk in, hundreds more found their home on the floor and the ropes blocking their path.
"If this was a trap, it is a bad one. Adorian, Adarian, cut through these."
And the twins did as they were commanded. They hacked and slashed at the rope in front of them, but it was a decent deal of work to cut through one layer... and when the second layer was cut, it whipped back to the wall, some of the loose strands catching one of the twins across the chest. They had to be careful but they had to be quick. Be wary of ropes and be wary of steel. They moved on...
Trap 6: (fail) The last portion of the hallway was much like the first... but it wasn't as easy. These axes fell on their own and were wielded by stationary knights. Typical considering they're in a fort... but what else were that there were other knights wielding bows and some using long bow staves that swept at their feet while others held spears that jabbed outwards.
Their hearts fell as they watched their previous trap return in this automated craziness. Surely there was something that was triggering them! .... but they did not have time to wait and think... Immediately they went. Slashed, stabbed, tripped, thwacked, and poked... they made it through with casualties.

There is no chance to rest and recuperate. While bearing the injuries (if any) from the hallway, you and what remains of your party look out over the next room. It is a wide room filled with many tiles, each bearing a different picture. Like before, one of your companions scoops a rock off the floor and throws it out. It clatters and lands upon a tile, whereupon it is obliterated by a pillar of fire.
You sigh, taking comfort in the fact that whatever lies at the very end of this dungeon will be well-worth it considering how much trouble someone went through to put all these deadly traps in place.
With the injuries and the possible dangers ahead, the group takes a moment to consider. Uru standing off to the side, watching and calculating the possibilities in his head. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a body move forward past the group. Reaching his arm out, he tries his best to grab the individual who turned to show that it was Curade.
"CURADE!"
----
"Y...You let him... you let him go?" Uru questioned, the group on the other side of the wide hall catching their breath. He looked at the lump in the middle of the room that used to be their companion. Burned, cut, shot, stabbed, slashed, tripped... he took the first steps for them and Uru could do nothing about it without ultimately killing himself.
"He volunteered, my friend. He was injured more than the rest of us and he thought it was the best route."
Growling, the hellhound pushed past their leader. "No route is worth losing one of us."

At last you and your companions (if any) have reached the end. The room is circular and filled with many shelves, each one containing many different kinds of goblets. There is a fountain in the middle of the room. Something tells you that you must take a goblet and drink from it. You take a step into the room, only to be stop as a shadowy javelin plants itself in the ground in front of you. Had the thrower put a bit more force into it, there's no doubt that it would have passed through you, pinning you to the ground through your midsection.
The room shakes, the treasures on the shelves rattling with each step as the Guardian strides into the light. Their head is held high, and they are already armed with another javelin to throw at you.
"HALT. YOU SHALL NOT PASS."

The attacks against the guardian's shield was unimpressive and uneffective. With a backhand, they were sent back from the imposing being. They had to regroup and try again.
