Depending on how many NPC companions you have with you, you can receive bonuses FOR THIS ISLAND ONLY. These bonuses are not cumulative; if I have only two NPCs I do NOT get to +2 to my dice total and the perk "desperation;" I only get the +2 perk.
Anyone caught cheating or with inaccurate NPC counts will be publicly shamed.
If you have the following number of NPCs with you at any given time on this island, here are your perks:
6 Characters: Add 6 to the TOTAL you roll in battle. Click the spoiler to see an example.
5 Characters: Add +50 to your HP total. So if you're at the max 80/80, it is now 130/130. This number is not doubled, and will drop if you lose an NPC. ie if you are at 110/130 HP and a group member sacrifices an NPC (below), then your HP caps at 80/80 the instant you lose an NPC.
4 Characters: Add 4 to the TOTAL you roll in battle. See the above spoiler for examples.
3 Characters: Add +30 to your HP total. So if you're at the max 80/80, it is now 130/130. This number is not doubled, and will drop if you lose an NPC. ie if you are at 110/130 HP and a group member sacrifices an NPC (below), then your HP caps at 80/80 the instant you lose an NPC.
2 Characters: Add 2 to the TOTAL you roll in battle.
1 Character: Determination - Add 10 to the TOTAL you roll in battle.
0 Characters: THIS MEANS YOU ARE BY YOURSELF! Remember, HP is dependant on the weapon you have equipped! No perks! 4evralone!
SACRIFICING: At any time on this island you can SACRIFICE an NPC to heal yourself. Yes, you can do this mid-battle. If someone dies you can sacrifice an NPC to bring them back to 100% health. If you are by yourself and you die, it's considered GAME OVER.
SHORTCUTTING: At any time in a room, you can SACRIFICE an NPC to bypass a room. So if you dislike the thought of having to roll for a prompt then you can bypass it. If you opt to bypass a battle, you also bypass the loot.
You dismount off your shadow-beast and run, taking cover. There must be several hiding, watching with bows drawn and arrows notched for any of your party to reveal themselves. You can hear the determined stomp and crash as others still search for your group on foot.
Your companion who was shot earlier is still there in the middle of the road. As you watch, they slowly begin to fade away. There was no time to pull them aside, to offer them last rights. And to be truthful, there are more pressing matters on your mind. You need to get out of there.
Your group can either fight them directly or sneak around. Should you have multiple player-characters in your group, you may choose different options.

"Jack..." She cursed beneath her breath as she stooped down in the bushes, peering just past the line where one of their companions had fallen. When one of the shadows responded to the name she rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "Not you." The other Jack. The one that was synonymous with 'we're screwed' and a side of 'dang nabbit'.
Sneaking did not seem to be an option for her when there was a fallen comrade. She was ready to stand and fight.

Clara was transported after touching the green pillar. She was on a shadowy beast, surrounded by others, also on shadowy beasts. The group was heading towards a building, and Clara was looking to whatever it was they were trying to get in great anticipation.
Suddenly, one of her companions was struck down by a stray arrow flying towards them. Immediately, everyone slid off their beasts and crouched.

A Challenger Appears!
With a thud and a clank, the shadow Knight readies its blade. It says nothing, but it doesn't need to. Not when it is fighting with murderous intent!

Aldara slid out of the bushes, drawing Limitless. While they were deciding to attack full-on it was easier to knock an arrow from where she stood, launching it in the knight's direction, aiming for a weak spot in his armor while the shadow soldiers closed in.
A rather satisfied grin curved her lips. She was very much going to like this weapon...

Clara pulled out the huge weapon she had just gotten, excited to test it out. Using both hands, she slashed at the knight as it charged towards her.

All in all, this was a bit like shooting fish in a barrel... And while she had never really understood why someone would do that before, she could sense a little bit of joy in it now.
Grinning, she knocked another arrow and let it fly.

Aldara approached the knight slowly, giving it a kick for good measure before stooping down to pluck a souvenir from its armor. She tilted her head, glancing to her companions... As well as to the girl with the mighty cleaver.
"... I didn't catch your name. Mine's Aldara." She held out her hand.

Clara bent down to pick up one of the items that the knight had left them. It was a violet-colored, crescent-shaped object. She looked up to see one of the members of the party, a girl with dark hair and many feathers, extend a hand. She wiped the dirt from her hand on her pants (ooc: I have no idea what she's wearing because she's a quest character and I didn't come up with anything LOL) before reaching out to the hand with her own.
With that taken care of, Clara walked into the building they had been aiming for. She was a slight bit sad at the loss of one of her comrades. She dipped a hand into the cool, refreshing fountain water, before using both hands to collect water and bring it to her mouth to drink. Clara also washed off the dust from spending time lying on the ground while they were avoiding the knight's attacks.
After everyone had taken a break, Clara followed the shadow-people as they made their way towards a narrow hallway. Apparently, Clara was really bad at dodging traps because she got hit by various torture devices such as huge rolling boulders, random pits filled with spikes, flaming arrows, and the occasional rabid vampire bunny (kidding at the bunny). She managed to avoid the first one, but fell into the next one, and that caused a chain reaction, resulting in her getting hit by almost all of the ones after.

The water was cool and delicious, refreshing and revitalizing. She splashed a bit in her face before shaking it off, eying the perils that remained ahead.
One of her companions went first and she winced, making a mental note to avoid the places that she had stepped before taking her own run through the Gauntlet.
Either she had done something like this before in a past life, or she was simply a quick learner; light on her feet, to make everything more convenient at that. She inched around the pit and dodged the fiery arrows... Only for her foot to snag a trip wire that sent darts shooting across the hall.
"Jack-nab-it." She cursed, ducking down, but not before one of the darts could snag her arm. She yanked it out while lying on the floor, eying the path ahead for a moment only to push herself up so that she could carry on.
Aldara paused again only to have putting a bit too much pressure on one foot setting off another trap. Tall spikes sprung out of the ground, grazing her leg as she dove out of the way, relieved that that was all that had happened.
She flashed another grin at the other girl before nodding as they continued on.

Clara limped through the remaining section of the hallway, which was devoid of traps. The group made it to the room, suffering from injuries, where they found themselves faced with another problem. It appeared to be a booby trapped floor, and the only way they could make it through the room was by crossing through the traps.
The first two steps she took had no issues....they even seemed to rejuvenate her. At the next one, an arrow pierced her arm. Clara took the next step when one of her companions tragically took the lethal darts for her. He was going to be missed.

Again, Aldara seemed to learn from watching Clara go on ahead of her. Although she could not remember the first step that the other girl had made, she recalled the second one and made her first hop to that plate. The light sprinkle of water from above (she hoped it was water) made her tilt her head. Whatever it was it seemed to be every bit as refreshing as the water they had partaken of before they had entered the hall of nightmares.
Smiling, she stepped forward... No longer smiling when the step forward triggered a trap, something hard and heavy falling to conk her in the head. She stumbled at that, tripping on to another trap which seemed to set off another series of events.
Rocks the size of small cannon balls tumbled from the ceiling above her. One hit... Another... She covered her head, taking a final dive to launch herself at the safety on the other side.
Dazed, and more than a little bit confused, Aldara lie there for a moment. Her head was aching something fierce but she managed to make it across to the other side without losing any more of their companions.
Sadly, she couldn't help but feel as though she had forgotten something... Multiple somethings...

At last you and your companions (if any) have reached the end. The room is circular and filled with many shelves, each one containing many different kinds of goblets. There is a fountain in the middle of the room. Something tells you that you must take a goblet and drink from it. You take a step into the room, only to be stop as a shadowy javelin plants itself in the ground in front of you. Had the thrower put a bit more force into it, there's no doubt that it would have passed through you, pinning you to the ground through your midsection.
The room shakes, the treasures on the shelves rattling with each step as the Guardian strides into the light. Their head is held high, and they are already armed with another javelin to throw at you. "HALT. YOU SHALL NOT PASS."
