The air was thick from the last night's rain, and the trees blurred together in a tapestry of green. The smell of wet earth was everywhere like an exotic spice. Kamala squinted at the silhouette of a Ysali dragon looming over her; despite the rest of him being in shadow, she could make out the scar on the end of his snout, illuminated by his glowing eyes. "Wake up," he whispered.
Kamala awoke with a start to a cacophony of noises, none of which Kamala could distinguish. She shook head, trying to clear her mind from the mistiness of the dream world, and became aware of screaming. There were sounds that Kamala recognized as claws ripping through bark and things crashing to the ground. Kamala looked to her left, where she'd last seen Scar and Junior sleeping beside her. The night was young and moonless, and the starlight that filtered through the branches above did not do much to illuminate the ground, but even in her disoriented state Kamala could immediately see that they were gone. Only the indentations from their stomachs resting on the wet soil were left behind.
The roaring seemed to come from everywhere. Kamala tilted her head from side to side, trying to discern echo from source. Her eyes narrowed, and she threw herself into a sprint in the direction of the lake. Grimly, she kept up the rigorous pace until her flanks shone with sweat, not daring to ask herself why she cared so much about two mere Ysali dragons...
The sounds of shrieks and growls were louder now, and Kamala could see movement up ahead. There were flashes of blue, and white, and yellow -- and a hint of green that could either been leaves, or the scales of a lightning-fast Ysali dragon.

Kamala burst through the last barrier of trees, and found herself in an explosion of teeth and claws. A spray of water kicked up from lake caught Kamala, unprepared, right in the eyes. She tried to blink the pain away, groaning, and then a blue-scaled paw caught her squarely in the belly. She doubled over, wheezing as she struggled for air.
A foot planted heavily on her back, and she was forced headfirst into the water. Kamala flailed briefly, bubbles frothing from her nostrils, then the back of her mind remembered that she was a Ysali. The foot retracted from her back and she came up for air immediately, gasping. A vine was circled several times around the Peisio's dragon leg, holding it back. With a little direction from Kamala, it jerked upward, and the water dragon fell flat on his back with a startled yelp. Immediately, there was a flash of green on his exposed neck. Scar paused only to orient his head at a precise angle, then bit down decisively. Blood spurted. Dragons roared. Flesh disintegrated.
Kamala locked eyes with her dragon mentor. His face was streaked with blood, not all of it from the Peisio dragon. Light bounced from the lake's disturbed surface and glowed green in his eyes. For a moment, Kamala was lost, taken back to the image from her dream.
And then Scar darted to the left, narrowly avoiding the teeth of the Peisio dragon. Kamala started forward, intent on helping, but a magically induced wave had crept up over her while her attention was distracted and now crashed over her. The current was more powerful than could ever be natural. She felt her feet lift from the ground, and a shiver of panic ran through her. Her wings flapped powerfully, and Kamala burst from the tug of the water in a shower of droplets and foam. She did not waste time trying to clear the water from her eyes, instead aiming straight for the nearest blue blur that she could see.

Her aim was wild but true. With a sense of enormous satisfaction, Kamala felt her claws slide between scales and sink deep into flesh. She heard a wail of pain and grinned to herself as she let her claws rip in three long lines downward. Her eyesight cleared and she saw before her a Peisio dragon limping, blood dripping from three gashes in his hind leg. Kamala observed him with a pitiless gaze, then spun and kicked out. The force of her foot against his neck crushed his windpipe, and he wheezed a few times before collapsing and bursting in a cloud of dust.
Immediately, Kamala twirled to scan the area for the final Peisio dragon; too many times now had she been caught off guard by the challenge of multiple adversaries. She relaxed as she saw the final attacker caught in a web of vines, helpless to move. He gnawed through one vine, only to find a new one snaking up to encircle his neck. Kamala sent a few vines in his direction, figuring more could never hurt.
Scar seemed exhausted by the effort of controlling multiple vines. He panted heavily as an mixture of sweat and blood painted his sides. One of the vines around the Peisio dragon's neck let go and moved down to the dragon's leg; as it fell into place, it began to pulse with a green light that travelled from the Peisio dragon to the Ysali dragon. A few minor cuts and bruises faded instantly, though there were plenty of injuries left.
Scar looked at Kamala, his gaze holding a query. Kamala nodded, and all of the vines suddenly tightened. The Peisio dragon let out one short shriek before the sound was cut off. After a brief and futile struggle, he went limp and disintegrated.
