Perhaps she was distracted? Arl swiped at the creature, again, with his blade. He managed to rip the blade up the entire length of the humanoid creature, slicing through parts and whatever it was made of extremely effectively.
He looked behind him, to grin at the person he'd joined in the fight, when the thing struck him on the back of the head. Because he thought the chick wasn't paying attention, Arl started to hum his own battle tune.

He was so focused on his battle theme that he didn't even hit the boss.

Palem fired a shot, only to realize that maybe she should have asked it if was alright - though, half the time others didn't mind.
