He shambled his way into the shrine with a grin spread across his face. A new day, and another chance to please the goddess by doing her bidding. What could be better?
He was in a rather chipper state of being considering he had lost Ephi, his one and only friend he had made so far. The thing was, he just wasn't too bothered about it, knowing that they would likely meet again at some point, and that these things happened.
Having a quick look around, he barely even had a chance to notice that a statue was missing, let alone the words beneath when I voice grabbed his attention.
"Hellllooooo!" He greeted the goddess, shuffling his way closer to her and grinning all the while, only too happy to be receiving a gift, no matter that when he unlocked it, it was just an empty bag. It was glorious! It was perfect!
OH....there was supposed to be something in it? Well, if she needed him to retrieve an item to put inside, then he would do it! For her, for her blessing!
He accepted the scissors and made his way towards the narrow opening, shuffling along as slowly as ever.
On the other side, each door was given a glance, one that took in the appearance of each, before the first door, the one with the pumpkin, was chosen.

A field of pumpkins, a humming in the air, voices, all things that stirred up something within him, something that he was close to uncovering, to understanding, something just out of reach of memory but not quite.
He had a job to do, however. He walked among the pathway of brightly glowing pumpkins, feeling peace, feeling like this place was perhaps the nicest place he had come upon so far. There was a warm feeling here, and color. Nothing like those grey, creepy things that attacked him!
The pumpkins gave way to a field of flowers, and that was nice as well. He continued along, forging his own path, all the way looking for what it was he was meant to be retrieving for the goddess.
Thump-thump.
What was that? Nearby, a headstone was sticking out of the ground, and he moved towards it, reading the words on it's title.
"Here lies Isabella."
He didn't know the name, and why should he? What he did know, however, as that in that ground marked by the tombstone, there was a heart. That's what was important, not some silly name!
He dug into the ground with his scissors, humming an offbeat tune, smiling, brushing dried flowers away with his free hand, brushing away dirt, digging into the soft ground that gave way beneath his blades easily. It was not long before the thumping heart was extracted, glowing a bright yellow, a yellow that faded slightly as the thumping came to a stop.
"Do you want to hold her?" He wrinkled up his nose in disgust, pale eyes lifting to his mothers.
"Not really. She's so small." He complained, taking a step back, taking a step away from his new baby sister. The baby waved small fists in the air, and gurgled, blinking up at him with one pale eye. Just one, the other was missing.
"Go ahead, hold her! You'll be fine." Before he knew it, she was thrust into his arms, and he wrapped them around her tight, afraid that he would drop her. "Mooo-ooom!" He complained with a huff.
His mom only laughed in response. The baby smiled.
He put it into his bag and straightened, still smiling now, but with a confused look in his eyes. That had been...weird....
Oh well, It was time to return!

Going back the way he came proved to be difficult. There was water, for one, and there was also whispering words, pleading words, and sounds from behind that he could never quite find the source of. He had looked over his shoulder several times and seen nothing, yet the noises continued.
As did the rising water.
Lex wasn't short, but when the water reached nearly to his mouth, he felt he had no choice but to turn around. He did so, only to find himself face to face with a girl, a small girl with one eye, one grey eye that stared into him, before she reached out with two hands and pushed him down below the surface.
Down and down he went. The fingers digging into his shoulders hurt, they were so tight! He didn't really know what to do, how to get away.....
"Alex! Alexander are you okay?" The voice was quiet, hushed, and a small hand reached beneath his bed to find his.
"Why didn't you help me?" His own voice was just as hushed. "Why didn't you go to mom and dad and tell them?" He pulled his hand away from her, his chest tight. with emotion, with pain.
"Alex I..." Her words were muffled, coming from behind her hands that she had pressed to her face in shame. "Alex, I'm sorry." And she sounded it, but at this point and time, Alex didn't care.
All he could think about was how she hadn't helped him when his other sisters had ambushed him. How she had been with him, and had run away. How she hadn't gotten any help.
"Just go away." He mumbled, and he heard her get to her feet and leave.
His eyes came back into focus. back on the girl in front of him.
"Isabella..." He tried to say, but instead water filled his mouth.

He stabbed at her. It was the only thing he could think of to do, the only weapon he had with which to defend himself. He didn't want to do it, though. He knew who this girl was, knew what she meant to him. His chest was tight, and it wasn't just from lack of oxygen.
If he could have cried, tears would have been falling down his face.
She disappeared, and so did the water.
"I'm sorry." He gasped, the water spewing from his mouth in a cough.
He was quick to exit at that point, shambling towards the narrow opening back to the shrine.
A little girl with one glaring, baleful eye watched him leave, a pair of scissors clutched in her hands.
