The young hybrid waved idly to the crowd as he entered the arena. His pale skin almost a beacon drawing the eyes of people in the stands. It was a genetic defect after all, his skin couldn't shift like normal shifters, and since he had alkidike blood in him it didn't bother him at all that much. He felt that this just made him more unique and thus more valuable a player in the world.
The great sword he carried was unfamiliar to him he had fancied using such a weapon all his life, although he had deliberated on using a spear like his mother, he didn't want to conform and thus went with (in his mind) a much more impressive weapon. It was awkward but that didn't bother him, he would get use to the weight before long he was sure.
Though as his eyes searched for his opponent he was surprised to find that he was also using the same kind of weapon. Well so much for being unique
Readying himself he grinned.
"Don't think I am going to take it easy on you." He declared, he was here to prove himself. Gerraden wanted to be strong, so he could impress a certain hybrid named Rishima.

Result: 6 + 3 = 9
Stretching before entering the arena, Tayyib thought dreary thoughts about the greatsword he would be carrying into the coming battle. He was no stranger to handling a sword; that was why he'd chosen this weapon over the others, after all. But the ones in the past had been blunt, light props, used in carefully rehearsed stage combat that looked dangerous but harmed no one. Now he was setting off to hurt or be hurt in a tournament match against a stranger. The instinct of avoiding harm to his opponent was going to be more liability than help here.
He rolled his shoulders, dismissing the thought as he strolled in to the arena. C'mon, it was a tournament, not a death match. There was no better chance to put his skills to the test against fighters of different backgrounds. He was here to learn and give the audience a good show for as long as he lasted out there. That would be enough.
As Tayyib drew closer to his opponent, the Leaf youth studied the hybrid with curiosity. The other held a sword like his, so they were evenly matched in weapons. Between his opponent's surprisingly pale skin and his own vivid red hair, their coloring rather worked in favor of drawing the audience's attention.
Hearing the other's words, Tayyib grinned back, glad that his opponent wouldn't be taking it easy on him. It sounded ominous, sure, but it was entirely in line with his hopes of learning from his match. "I wouldn't want you to! And I won't hold back either. Let's do our best."

The shifter/alkidike hybrid gave a grin liking the guy instantly, it was great to have an opponent who wasn't full of themselves, who wanted to prove themselves and just have fun! Angling the large sword in his hand he took paused waiting for the right moment to strike. A hush going over the crowd as he then moved forward.
Despite his little practice with the weapon it felt..right in his hands giving a cry out as he brought the weapon up in a angled slash.

Tayyib raised his sword, eyes alert as he watched for an opening, but Gerraden was faster, lifting his sword for an upward slash. Green eyes widened. Judging from the speed and strength behind the sword's arc, it was going to do some serious damage if it struck.
Better not let it, then.
Judging its trajectory to a nicety, the Leaf prentice neatly sidestepped the attack. As his opponent's sword sliced at the air beside him, he decided to take advantage of the proximity to swing at the other fighter's side.

The man had been quick to react to his charge and swing. It had irked him to see no damage upon him but to receive damage unto himself. At the same time it was a brilliant and calculating move. Proud he was fighting someone who wasn't afraid to show him what he knew he turned and brought the great blade around to strike back at his attacker.

Tayyib found his opponent truly formidable. Right after his retaliatory strike, Gerraden was swinging away again. What's more, the power of the hybrid's strike was hardly diminished at all, even after Tayyib wounded him. He'd definitely have to spar some more with this guy, if he was willing.
Needless to say, the Leaf boy decided not to take the blow head-on. Decided might not be the right word; he had a dancer's instincts, twisting away from harm's reach. Not content simply to evade, he drew close to slash at the other fighter.

Gerraden took another hit, he was bleeding and he could smell the sharp iron smell around him and yet he did not halt, did not falter. If there was something about Gerraden that was endearing was that he NEVER gave up and always did everything with gusto! Another battle cry as he brought himself around and swung at the leaf tribe male. Of course he was hoping he wouldn't be able to dodge ...like all the other times he had swung, but that was still up to fate.

Once more Tayyib evaded, all the while marveling inwardly at his opponent's gusto and strength. The other man might be bleeding from his earlier cuts, but the power of his slashing sword seemed to be increasing, not decreasing. Truly impressive.
Dodging around the other's blade, he swung his own up, slashing hard at the other swordsman.

All the gusto in the world wasn't going to stop him from bleeding until he past out. Taking ques from his opponent he tried to dodge the attack but failed, true if he had reacted a second sooner he may of been able to escape with minor cuts. Still he couldn't say he didn't try and he brought his mighty weapon around for another swing.

Tayyib's earlier retaliatory strike brought him close to his opponent -- too close to be able to dodge the other's sword entirely. Gerraden's mighty strike may not have hit with full impact, but it did slice up his arm.

He had to push through the pain. Or let it strengthen him. The stinging of his arm wound spurred him to bring his sword around in a more powerful arc than before.

It was a good thing he was trying harder at this dodging thing. He had a feeling if that next swing had got him he would of been toast. Still he didn't dwell on it. He had to keep trying, he wanted to impress Rishima, if he could manage to get to the next round he would be so happy.

(Oops, messed up the dice, but it works out anyway!)

Tayyib dodged his opponent's retaliatory strike by a fraction. His momentum carried him beyond the hybrid, and his sword ended up slashing at air instead of flesh.
Was it just Tayyib's imagination, or was his opponent getting faster as the match wore on? He'd have to ask Gerraden how he managed this feat. After, though. Right now, he needed to keep all his wits about him, and so did the other fighter.

If there was one thing about Gerraden that was perhaps an admirable quality it was that he was stubborn. Once he got something in his head, he wanted to see it through to the end. And that showed quite plainly as he continued to strike with little hesitation and devastating blows. Perhaps he could attribute to the weight lifting he had been doing lately, he wanted to impress Rishima right? What better way than to be strong?
