Task 1

Acerola entered the shrine. Peering around, she only saw two of the statues remaining. On another glance, she noticed that one of the Goddesses, the one that was missing from her pedestal, had become animated. It was obviously up to the Goddesses what they did, but Acerola couldn't help but wonder as she walked over, why they were statues. Maybe it wasn't for her to know or for her to ever understand.

Walking through the mist and fog, Acerola found herself face to face with the Goddess, who held out a bag. She took the bag gently from the Goddess’ outstretched hand, and at her word, she opened it. Nothing was inside. For a moment, Acerola thought this was merely a prank being played on her by the Goddess. She wouldn’t be surprised at all if that was what was going on because she really didn’t understand Goddesses.

The Goddess gave the instructions and handed the scissors over to Acerola. Cutting shouldn’t be hard. Although, Acerola felt confused. The Goddess said “parts” which made it seem that they weren’t living….maybe robots? But she was to retrieve the “heart”, which seemed to indicate a living being. Cutting out a heart with scissors? And then the Goddess had said….what was it? They didn’t make it? Slightly confused, but trusting the Goddess, she made her way to the opening.

Having gone through the opening, she faced the three doors. The first one with a pumpkin sign didn't give off much of a vibe to her. She looked to the next door. It looked like the sign on this door had been scratched at several times. Was it because something had tried to get in? No matter. The third door, she could barely even look long enough to see the tree sigil. Yikes. She definitely wasn't going anywhere near that door. As tempting as the second door was, she didn't want to take any risks. Especially since she didn't know what was inside. She walked through the first door.

Nostalgia flooded Acerola’s existence as she walked through the door. She wanted to just stand there and soak it all in for a while. However, a thumping sound drew her back to reality. Thump. Thump. She felt the heart coming from beyond a field of orange. Acerola walked through the glowing pumpkins and flowers. As she walked, she could feel the beating pulse of the heart growing stronger and stronger with every step. Her eyes skimmed over the name glowing brightly on the grave. “HERE LIES SHU” it read.

Acerola knew what she had to do. She took the scissors and started prying into the ground, dirt falling beside her. At last, she made it to the heart. She gently pulled it out of the dirt, and suddenly, her vision was filled with a sight that was not actually before her. A memory?

There were two figures that appeared to be standing above her. One figure was blurred and seemed to be out of focus, and she couldn’t quite make out anything about him, other than that he had a humanoid shape. On the other hand, the other figure was clear as day. The blurred figure seemed to gesture at the other person and said in a distorted voice, “This is my friend, Shu.”

Acerola’s vision returned to normal. Not sure of what to do or how to react to the vision, she did the only thing she knew to do: she took the heart and put it into the bag.

Water. Everywhere. Acerola felt far from comfortable. It was dark. It was cold. Yet, she had to continue onward. She heard splashes. Maybe they were hers? That couldn’t be right. There was something else there….Acerola could feel it approaching.

In her scramble to get away from whatever was approaching, Acerola hadn’t noticed that the water was getting deeper and deeper and deeper. A voice that wasn’t hers spoke. “Please give it back.” Had she done something wrong? She didn’t think so. She was doing as the Goddess had told her to do, and surely a more divine being would be right, right? The voice spoke again. “Please give me back my-“ and Acerola felt hands choking her down. Down into the water. As Acerola struggled to pry the two hands off her neck, she gasped and tried to take a breath. Bad idea, as more water flooded her lungs. She looked at the figure and its empty eyes…

“Shutetzulu.” Said a female voice.

A sigh. “How many times have I asked you to stop calling me that?” the person called Shu said. It seemed that Acerola was talking to this boy. Shu seemed to sort of give an exasperated smile. Acerola felt like she could trust this guy.

The Accerola in the memory said, “Then, do you prefer that I call you Shut?”

The conversation continued. Shu asked how Accerola was doing, and she would respond with a one sentence reply. It was mostly Shu guiding the conversation, but Accerola felt happy just talking to him. As people passed by, her voice would quiver to a whisper, and would rise in volume again when the passersby was out of earshot, which was due to a mix of fear….for something, and what Accerola felt was privacy.

The memory came to an end.

Acerola's thoughts were brought back to the present, although barely, because she felt like she was going to pass out, or in the worst possible case, die, right here, right now, unless she did something soon. The arms were still there, strong as ever, on her neck. She could feel the pulse of her core, weakening the longer she stayed submerged. She thought of something. What if he died? Surely, the pain would disappear then, as the fingers digging into her flesh would relax and let go. But a choice..."Should I kill him?" Acerola thought.

This "Shu" person, Acerola seemed to know him. Or rather, knew him. He seemed like such a trustworthy person, yet here he was, strangling her? Or maybe the one strangling her wasn't Shu. The question changed. "Shu....or me? She really hoped it wasn't him. She raised her hand out of the water, prepared to strike. And strike she did.

A scream. And then there was nothing. The water seemed to disappear as well. She definitely didn't remember any water in the first place. Acerola saw the exit, and made her way towards it. As she did, she swore she saw the same figure, glaring at her, and holding scissors, as if it could stab her from where it was. Acerola cringed.

Shu. Who was Shu? As she made her way back to the shrine with the bag, containing the heart, in her hand, she had time to think for a bit. From those two memories, she was sure Shu was some sort of friend. But she felt that there was much more to him she didn't understand, because a friendship built through many hours spent together, building trust, couldn't be fully described in just two short memories. She was full of dread that she stabbed this stranger, and she was filled even more so because it seemed like he was a stranger whom she had known and had trusted.

Task 2 - Escaping the Hallway

Acerola woke up in a strange room. The room was a chilling white. She sat up on the table and looked from left to right at the room. Four walls and a door. Well, there was only one thing she could do. She exited the room.

Past the room was a hallway. It was one of those hallways that went straight for forever, but Acerola saw a door at the other end. An exit. She made her way towards it, slowly because her head hurt a bit from the silence and getting up. It seemed to easy at first. All she had to do was walk down a hallway? Didn't the Goddess say something about sacrifices and challenges? The only thing Acerola had sacrificed was her excitement at receiving a challenge from the Goddess.

A thud from behind. That couldn't be good. She turned around, almost scared of what she would face. But what she saw was the door from where she had left. Nothing? There didn't seem to be anything besides the hallway with its exit and the room, which she had already checked for. She continued walking.

More thuds. This time, she turned around fearlessly, thinking she wasn't going to see anything again. Maybe the thudding was coming from beyond the walls?

Bad mistake. Acerola turned around and she saw a shadowy figure, scissors in its hands. She could see the scissors moving, snip snip snip, and knew it was going to try to take her heart.

Acerola ran, as fast as her grey legs would take her. Panting, she shook the door handle. It didn't budge. She kept shaking and shaking, but nothing happened. It was locked. She was barely able to read the red text because her whole body was trembling. Passcode. "WHO HAD TIME FOR A PASSCODE?" Acerola thought, the voice in her head screaming.

Her head started spazzing and looking everywhere. Barely discernible from the white ground was a white slip of paper. On it said "A C E G". "WHAT? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?" Acerola couldn't figure out what it meant, and began searching again.

Task 2 - Escaping the Hallway

Acerola's sweat-soaked hands patted the ground around her as she knelt, hoping to look for another hint. She turned around and saw the figure walking closer and closer to her. She could hear the thuds and the snips getting louder, and searched even harder. She thought she could feel the figure's joy and excitement as at watching Acerola struggle and getting the chance to gouge out her heart. It was probably just her imagination.

Although she didn't want to, she moved a slight bit away from the door and started patting around there, looking for any clues she missed from when she was desperately running.

Something seemed to stick to her fingers. It was another piece of paper that had gotten caught to the sweat on her fingers, like paper does when it comes into contact with water. She almost ripped it out of her own fingers as she flipped it over, looking for text. This one seemed to say the same "A C E G" as the other piece did. Well, that was helpful. Perhaps that was all the help she was going to get? Acerola tossed this slip to the side and ran back over to the door, shaking the door, and entering in random numbers, without a single thought as to what "A C E G" could possibly mean. No luck. The door wouldn't budge.

The thuds got louder and louder and Acerola heard an insane laugh coming from somewhere. She didn't think it came from the figure, since it didn't have a mouth. Did it come from her?

Task 2 - Escaping the Hallway

Acerola sat there against the door with a look of resignation and craze on her face. What could she do? Nothing she tried had worked. Or maybe that was because she had been spamming in "7 4 1 1 1 5" over and over again, despite the fact that it only took four numbers. She watched the figure approaching, almost ready to accept her fate.

As she was hugging her legs while sitting down, head resting on her knees, she saw another sheet of paper. Not wanting to be excited only to be disappointed that it would be another one like the others, she picked it up slowly, and turned it over. It was different. "A=0, B=1, C=2." it read.

She jumped up, piecing it together, and thinking she knew what she had to do now. She entered "0, 2, 4, 5". She heard a click, and the door sprang open. She ran out as fast as she could. "Well, that was easier than I thought." Of course, with adrenaline rushing everywhere, it wasn't too surprising she couldn't think.

Task 2 - Escaping the Forest

Acerola ran outside the door, panting. She glanced behind her. Turns out the figure was still following her. Maybe she should've closed the door instead of leaving it open. It was too late now. She continued running, not sure how much more she could take.

Acerola ran through an area filled with grey trees. Everything was back to grey, and the sudden darkness in color made her stumble over tree roots, until her eyes adjusted. Crunch. The sound of footsteps, footsteps that weren't hers. "Give me back my heart.", she heard it say.

"Or give me yours..........don't worry, it will be in a much, much better place."

Acerola barely paid any attention to the taunts. She continued running, until it looked like the trees cleared up ahead. When she reached the edge of the forest, she saw a bridge over one of the largest gaps she had ever seen. The bridge seemed to be the only way to go.

It didn't take a second. She had to cross the bridge. If she fell, she would die. But even worse, if she was caught, her heart would be taken from her, and she would die regardless. Closing her eyes, as to not look down, she grabbed the fraying handles and took her first step onto the moldy planks.

Solid ground once again. Acerola opened her eyes. She had miraculously made it to the other side. When both feet were touching the grass on the other side, she looked across the bridge. The planks had fallen when she had crossed the bridge, and the figure appeared to be unable to cross.

"Don't worry, I will be by your side soon to claim your heart." it seemed to coo and cackle.

OOC

You manage to make it across the bridge with almost no hassle. You hear a crack behind you, and realize that the boards have fallen behind you, between you and the follower. It buys you precious time, as the follower taunts and yells at you in the distance.

Task 2 - Fight or Die

Running, Acerola reached a dead end. Standing in front of her was a huge haunted house. Something seemed to be emitted from the huge building....the shadow looked odd and unusual. Slightly mesmerized by the shadow, she turned around when her concentration was broken by more thudding. Yes, it was back.

The figure that had been chasing her was marching towards her once more.

"I thought it'd lost it that time." Acerola thought. "How did it make it across?" Now that she thought about it, she couldn't help but wonder where it came from in the first place. She was sure she had checked the room thoroughly, and there hadn't been a sign of anything. Ah well, the world was a mysterious place.

Out of the periphery of her sight, she saw something glowing a bright red against the dull grey of everything. The dagger. It seemed to be reacting to something. Acerola was surprised because she had completely forgotten she had the dagger, and amazed that she hadn't dropped it anywhere.

"Challenge.....sacrifice.....stronger.....prey." The Goddess' words ran through her head. She understood now. She held the dagger firmly in one hand, prepared for when the figure, with its pair of scissors, was close enough to attack. The figure seemed to sprint the remaining distance to her, and poised to strike, Acerola thrust the dagger at into the figure just as the figure attacked with the scissors -

It was raining. A small figure was the girl's hands. The rain concealed the stream of tears flowing out of her yellow eyes. She hugged the figure, to protect it from the rain.

A figure walked up behind her. He asked "You going to be okay, Clara?" Clara nodded, although she definitely didn't feel okay.

She had finally found something she could relate to. Abandoned, suffering, and alone. Just like her. When she had found the miniature cat, Shu joked "It's like a mini-Clara." Lacking the right amount of imagination, they called it that. Whenever they called it, it would come, mewling happily, and sharing the happiness with the other two. That was of course, before before someone had cruelly stabbed it in the stomach, killing mini-Clara slowly. Soft mewling, blood everywhere, and guts spilling from the wound was how Shu and Clara had found the pitiful kitten.

Clara's eyes burned with raw passion. This was why she hated humans. She was going to find the ones who did this. She was going to make them pay.

Acerola returned to reality, just soon enough to see the figure fade away. The dagger seemed to glow even brighter, if possible. She heard a door swing open behind her, and the door to the haunted house opened. Not knowing how she should feel, she walked through the door.

OOC

IF your result is even, you have SUCCEEDED. You plunge the dagger directly into their chest and they fall over before dissipating. Your dagger is now glowing a brighter red as you retrieve it. The second you do so, the door of the Haunted House swings open. You escape from this place.

Task 3

Acerola faced the Goddess of Longing. Unlike the other Goddesses, she found this Goddess much more welcoming. She stood awkwardly to one side as the Goddess offered her a cookie. Hesitantly, she took one. The Goddess rambled about emotions.....and something about a tea party? "Is this a ....task?" Acerola asked herself. Regardless, she would do what the Goddess told her to do, after all, it was a huge honor.

Acerola walked through the gate that appeared behind the Goddess, taking slow steps as she observed the white flakes fluttering through the air. She reached the table. On it were two jars - one that was pink and one that was blue. She reached for the solemn blue one. On it was a tag. "Drink me," it said. Since the Goddess had probably written the tag, she drank what was inside without hesitation. Immediately, she felt irritation bubbling within.

The table suddenly started spinning, a sweet treats filled the table. Was she supposed to pick something? "I guess so..." Acerola thought, as she picked up the petite cupcakes. She paused for a moment before taking a small nibble from the side. But it wasn't enough. She still felt empty inside. She looked at the white and black cups before picking up the black one and taking a sip.

Warm blood and flesh covered her hands. She knew whose blood it was. She wanted to stop. But couldn't -- she was no longer in control. She had fallen to the monster within that refused to be quelled and had leaped out with insatiable joy at being released. The reason she was born. Her existence as a spirit of vengeance.

She had been seeking revenge on the ones who had taken something important to her. It was then that she had lost it. One moment, she was attacking the man who had destroyed something precious to her, and the next thing she knew, she herself was destroying something she valued above all others. Her friendship. Her friend had accompanied her to find the culprit and had tried to stop her when things had gotten out of hand, but he had become the target. And now she was hurting him physically and mentally.

Her friend tried to erase all signs of pain on his face. The wincing from the pain. The urge to move as far away as possible from the cold eyes and cruel smile, which he knew were not how Clara really was. He knew at the end of the day, he wasn't going to be the only one hurt. But it was painful and hard.

She could only watch, as if she was an onlooker, as her friend passed out, but still, "she" continued to attack. At last, when she returned to her senses, she could only hold her friend in her arms, crying. She had lacked self control and it was all her fault.

Rushing to the nearest hospital, she left her friend with the nurses at the front desk before fleeing. She couldn't explain what happened - if she did, they would surely lock her away, and even if she could, she didn't know what to say.

A few days, she returned, finally working up the courage to go talk to her friend, but he wasn't there anymore. No message or anything. She didn't pursue anymore. He probably didn't want to talk to her. She understood. If she had met herself, she would've done the same.

Colour of Tea Tasted: Dark Blue
Description: Blood on her hands. Vengeance. Helplessness.

Your commentary on its flavour: Without context, Daaiji isn't sure if she can properly understand the memory, but it leaves a sour aftertaste when she sets the cup down. The sense of helplessness leaves her empty, makes her feel tiny and like a child. She can sympathize with the need for revenge, but it seemed payback hadn't been worth it in the end. She sighed, wondering what the owner was doing now. Did they still feel as helpless as they had in this memory? Or had they moved on, grown stronger?

Description: It tastes dry, minty with bitterness. It feels as though the tea wishes it could change, but it can't.

Your commentary on its flavour: Aima sipped with a bitter expression on her face, annoyed with the goddess that she had to participate in such a trivial task.

The memory washed over her. She enjoyed the malice, but hated the feelings it evoked afterwards. It was so dark, so helpless. There were two feelings Aima hated- uselessness and helplessness. This memory evoked both.

She quietly set down the tea and moved on, not uttering a single word.

Your commentary on its flavour: The first thing he noticed was the blood, something that shouldn't have been anywhere near tea at all. The memory felt helpless and scared and he wasn't particularly fond of it. So much pain, not something he enjoyed, only something he wished on his enemies. Hopefully this wasn't one of them at least.

Description: Sad, lonely... lost.

Your commentary on its flavour: Mylisp paused, tilting herhead as the memory filtered through her as she sipped. An odd sensation. Losing oneself to the point of being unable to stop, to the point of hurting what you cared for? She didn't quite understand it, why that would happen. But more than that, she toyed with the tea, running a finger through the remaining liquid as she briefly voiced what bothered her most about everything. "Why dd you give up?" She felt sorry for this person, for their lack of resolve in pursuing what they once loved.

Why would you ever give up on a friend?
