It used to be simple. You turned 10, got your first pokemon, and began a journey of a lifetime. Discover a calling somewhere along the way. Some became officers, some nurses, some scientists, a rare few even became pokemon masters. It was real black and white. There were the good guys, and there were the bad guys. Trainers of all flavors, all walks of life, despite their histories and various levels of skill, had to stop the bad guys. It was their duty, your duty. You failed.

Ten years ago, life was simple. Then Team Rocket stepped up their tech. No longer were their schemes solely concentrated on obtaining the rarest and strongest pokemon. Always they wanted more. Pokemon were, as always, just the beginning. They developed a new weapon utilizing the same mechanics involved in an Electrode using Explosion. They created the R-bomb. They didn't know just how powerful it was. Not until it was too late.

At the same time, fed up with the world of man, Mewtwo sought a method of eliminating it so as to leave the world for pokemon alone to rule. When it learned of the R-bomb, it was only a matter of time before it sought out such power. Mewtwo held the entire world for ransom, then dropped the bomb.
The result was unprecedented; total devastation. The ecosystems of the pokemon world weren't ready for that level of radiation. Millions of humans and pokemon died and those that survived live in a world of desolation.

Fields and valleys burnt to ash, mountains leveled and caves collapsed. Oceans condensed to salt thick deserts and skies thick with storms and roaming clouds of lethal gases. This is the world you grew up in. The remaining humans roam in caravans, following food sources and avoiding the floating radiation. Packs of wild pokemon scavenge what they can to survive. Some breeds are used for practical purposes, but many have been abandoned to thrive as they will. You turn 10, hunt down your first pokemon, and start your trek. You survive. Find glory where you can. But this isn't a game anymore. This is the Apokelypse.

Niches and Glitches
You're nitch is where you fit into the big picture. What you do.

Handler: The Pokemon Handler is the equivalent of a pokemon trainer. Since pokemon have only been feral for a short period of time, all handlers handle their pokemon differently. Handlers do a variety of things with their pokemon, from selling them to keeping them for protection. What you do is up to you.

Farmer: The Pokemon Farmer studies the newly feral pokemon. They are similar to the Pokemon Breeders of yester-decade, though their methods can be a little harsh at times.

Promoter: A pokemon trainer that travels the world in search of Pokemon Fight Clubs. These are the people who put pokemon in no holds barred battles and competitions. Each arena they conquer earns them a different Symbol.

Engineer: A pokemon engineer is a mysterious nitch indeed. They work for the last corporation in the world. In other words, remnants of Team Rocket working towards finishing their conquest.

Symbols are the equivalent of badges. The more you collect, the more infamous you'll become. Some may reward you, some may seek you out for battle. If you lose a battle to another, you must give them one of your Symbols.

Using her new team, Viridi tried to save as many people as possible, but at great cost. Three of her team were claimed by the sea as was her family. Those that survived revered her as a hero and became one of the roaming caravans that wandered the warped land. The devastated trainer took her loss as a driving force to shape her life. Pokemon: Eevee (Eve)

One night when she was 11, she watched her parents die right in front of her. Escaping into the night the young girl traveled for days before eventually collapsing. When she awoke she found food, and small plastic shards. Finding the shards like puzzle pieces she put them together. Realizing these where the technical machines her father told her about. Finding that she was able to rebuild the discs she started to collect the shards. Trading with others who didn't know what they were, or selling the ones she fixed. Sometimes people came to her with work, and she didn't ask questions. Still there was one thing that always bothered her...the little charm she found among the food and disc shards. It reminded her of a pokemon named Mew she saw in an old picture book she had as a child. She liked to believe that was the pokemon that helped her from time to time. Her own little guardian angel she could never meet. After her parents death she changed her name. People often come looking for her expecting a young man. Sometimes she wears a large coat to keep herself same from the freaks that lurk around.

Terry Oaklan

Life in a caravan was life on the go. Even before the sun rose, before the swarms of zubats fled to their cavernous hideouts and the packs of houndooms withdrew from their nightly hunts, the people rose and began to move. Within the circles of collapsible fencing, they began their daily routines, because caravans never stayed idle. They learned long ago that the shifting storms, which were only made worse by the radiation zones, would tear through any standing structure and make anyone become deathly ill after prolonged exposure.

Terry learned from birth, just how harsh this life was. There were simple rules to surviving out here, in the wastes. One, never venture from the caravan alone. Two, water is a precious commodity. Three, trust no one outside the caravan. Four, always keep upwind of a storm.

Terry's father, one of the elders' of their group, had already left to attend a meeting with the rest of the adults. In his stead, Terry was charged with watching over the pride, a group of twenty strong shinx, including his own. His father's Luxray watched over his family silently.

"I wish father would let me go to the meetings Tut," he groaned to his shinx, who mewed at his feet within the covered pen.

The only information he'd managed to glean from some passing teens was that they were within range of another caravan. It was a rare occasion, but one that they took full advantage of. Afterall, it wasn't often that they had the opportunity to trade goods and information. But it was a wary business, for both parties, so caution was to be expected.

Viridi Flame

On the other side of the wastes lays a crumpled set of hills. These mounds were once mountains that collapsed after the destructive r bomb. Where prestigious snow capped peaks once lined the horizon, now one huge jagged toothed crater dominates the landscape. Yet the hills beside this scar had protected some on their withering slopes.

A single mining town, which had before used its tunnels to search for minerals and precious metals, now use its for refuge. They have transformed their narrow passageways into vast interconnecting caverns. It is one of the last cities of man. Population: five thousand and growing. It is known as Diamond town.

But within this thriving maze of stonework, violence and destruction continue. It is here that trainers compete most fervently for fame and glory. They pit their pokemon in literally underground cage fights, where the victor is determined through brutality and deadly skill.

Viridi sat back in her chair, sipping an ale as the next match began. Her free hand idly touched the pokeballs on her belt as she watched the Arcanine rip into the smaller, screaming Victreebell. She set the empty glass down a few moments later, sighing in satisfaction as the match was called. Victreebell had won, but only barely. It was only adding insult to injury to let it spit out its half digested opponent onto the mat. Not her style, but then plants gotta eat too.

Price

Price was looking around as he sat in the caravan, which was apparently heading towards another one so a lot of people were nervous or worried over what the upcoming caravan would be like, hopefully they could trade and such, but none of that really mattered to Price right now as he was just someone the caravan picked up. He knew that he wasn't really apart of the caravan and just a hitch hiker, but still he did want some company other than his Pokemon some times.

He looked out over the little fencing to his right to see the mountains in the distance as well as the sun which flickered in the clouds as a storm seemed to be brewing out that way. Price was still young, but he believed he was becoming accustomed to the way of life on the road for the most part even if he did complain a lot. He was already more successful than most he thought, as he had two Pokemon and a lot of people didn't even have any except for the cattle ones for the caravan which didn't fight. Price didn't like the fighting sometimes, especially since if they lost they might kill his Pokemon, though he did have faith in Sarah and Sanctus. He thinks as he rubs his Houndours head which was on his lap.

Tredge

Tredge was sitting on top of what used to be a caravan cart and was smashing his axe into the top of it as a few Murkrow fluttered about the area looking for what food there was. One of them landed on the ground behind the caravan about ten feet away and started to look around and peck on the ground. {You are making your way through this vast wasteland like so many others, but why did you have to come here? Was it just bad luck? Coincidence? Maybe you did something wrong and you are now here as a result?.... Well it's not like it matters. You look as though you are looking for food that's not here, in fact most of your flock is in the remains over a couple meters. Do you believe you will find some here that they might have missed? You're wrong. Those bones are from a traveler who was killed a while ago by an axe to the head. he was then eaten later by a flock of Murkrow not unlike yourselves.}

The sound of something being thrown is heard as the Murkrow squawks and then a thud. The rest of the flock flew away and Tredge stands up facing the now dead Murkrow "I HAVE DONE IT!! THERE IS NO MORE SYRUP!!!" Tredge jumps down and grabs the axe now holding the bird high in the air along with it. The voice sighs and starts to speak again. {Yes... Yes there is no more syrup. Do you even know what you were like anymore? You know, When you were civilized?} Tredge bites into the Murkrow's neck and rips some meat off it along with the feathers. The voice is quiet for a second before speaking again. {No.. No I guess you don't. Well let's go somewhere else after the meal, maybe we can find someone who can help... Plus, a storm is brewing.} Trapinch finally shows itself on Tredge's shoulder as it was hanging off of his back for a while and stretches itself off of him to take a bit of the Murkrow before saying its name while Tredge swallows and yells "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! NO STORM CAN FIGHT THE TRAPINCH!!!" and punches himself in the head three times.

Misaki

Twisting the map in front of her, Misaki let out a growl of frustration. It was hard enough getting from anywhere to anywhere, and her current map wasn't helping her at all. Not only that, but by wasting time trying to find places, she was losing precious promoting time. Quite frustrated, she let a pokéball fly in the air before a white light came out from it. Murkrow squawked, not entirely happy being up as the dawn came upon them. Misaki ignored its complaints, digging around in her packs for HMs and TMs. "I need you to fly me higher, so I can see what I'm trying to find." she said, holding out HM02. She had to hope that a Move Deleter was somewhere in the area, due to her habit of using TMs and HMs constantly. She had acquired the machines from her home, picking through the rubble for her parents' possessions, and through winning battles.

Murkrow gave another annoyed caw, but took the HM. Within a minute, Misaki was far above ground, observing the landscape below her much like the map that was in her pack. About a mile or two away from her current position, she could see a caravan on the plain. To her right in the distance there was a mountain range, which she assumed was where the promoters' ring was. She could see a lone light closer to her, a few hundred yards from her current position on the ground. Taking a second to decide what to do, she decided to head for the mountains. "Murkrow, take me to that area of the mountains." she said, pointing to an area below the highest peak in the range. With a caw, they flew away from the morning light.

Terry Oaklan

By midday the two caravans sent trading parties, a select group chosen to bring with them a sample of the goods they offered for trade. If both agreed, then the caravans would become temporary neighbors, setting up camp within a short distance of one another to allow easier transfer of materials.

Watching the trading party set out from a viewing slit in the fabric wall, Terry couldn't help being envious. He spent the better part of the morning tending to the needs of the pride, mostly petting the affectionate felines because they picked up on the tensions of the people that ran around outside.

But as time passed and nothing of interest happened, Terry started to digit. He was an adventurous sort and wanted to see what the trading parties did in the open wilderness. His father had forbidden him to go along in the past, but Terry was ten now and plenty old enough to start seeing more of the world outside the caravan.

"Come on Tut, lets go see for ourselves what the other group looks like," he encouraged softly as he opened the pen gate for them to slip back out. The patriarch Luxray watched them leave, but made sure that none of the rest of the pride followed. Terry knew that it would try to warn his father, should the man happen back, but since he was likely part of the trading party, it was a small worry.

Most everyone was so busy that the boy was hardly noticed as he crept through the tents and the mounds of bound up equipment. At some point he came to the edge, where the outer rims were lined by fold-able fencing. Climbing up the nearest woodpile, he used the height to jump over the pointed edge.

He landed roughly on hands and knees, rolling in the dry dusty dirt. Tut mewed in surprise as he sailed over the fence, landing lightly on his paws.

"Show off," Terry scoffed before turning to run towards the low rising hills that marked the trading parties rendezvous point. They were barely inclines compared to the far mountains, but when there was nothing but flat open plains in any direction, they were definitely something to break up the horizon.

Viridi Flame

The matches held in the underbelly of Diamond town continued throughout the day, interrupted only by the short betting pools that efficiently collected and made bets in between each bout. If a trainer was good enough the money was easy pickings, if not then they could easily lose everything they held of value.

Viridi prided herself on being competitive, but selective. She wasn't so naive to think that she could just fight every opponent that came along in the hopes that it would draw the right attention. Pokemon needed rest and care, even in these rough times, maybe more so if they are prized fighters. Besides, if she knew she could crush someone easily, the profit was slimmer and therefore less worth her time and her pokemon's energy.

However her purse was feeling a little lighter than normal, having had to patch up her Sabeleye from a slip in a recent bout. She called foul after one of the audience had thrown a bottle of beer into the ring. The bottle had broken on her sableye, getting the liquid in its eyes and causing it to flail uselessly. Luckily, one of the strict rules was to not interfere with the match so the match was canceled before the pokemon had done much damage to one another and the guy was thrown from the arena with no refunds and threats to never return. Promoters took their matches very seriously.

It was required that all promoters wait a day between matches, but that only counted if they had one pokemon to fight with. Since she had three, it was allowed that she continue to enter the pool two more times before her limit for the day was reached.

So it came as no surprise when her name was called. Entering the chained off arena, she tossed her coppery hair from her face and struck a coy and flirtatious pose. Sometimes a little acting was required to alter the odds in ones favor. People tended to bet towards people who looked more threatening, which made her more money when she wiped the floor with them.

On the opposite side, her opponent took position, a large fellow with crazy black hair and dirty clothes that barely covered his muscular frame. He looked decidedly impressive, but she pegged him for one of the local miners. Sometimes they had a dream of something more daring and dangerous than their normal life. Viridi didn't understand what kind of life could be more dangerous than mining, but then she knew what life had been like before it all went to hell. Then again it could merely be the man's hobby. She didn't want to think which was more disturbing, because in the end it didn't matter.

"The match is one round, singles match. No holds bar. Match is called when one side concedes defeat," the referee announces to everyone within the arena's cavernous space. "Matches begins now!"

In one fluid motion, Viridi twirls around and flings the pokeball she slipped from her pocket. The ball spins dramatically for a second, just as she practiced, before opening up to reveal her Excadrill who poses to best show off his large claws and the razors along his head. Everyone has a moment to admire the reveal before roaring a mixture of cheering and cursing as her opponent lets out a rather large Electabuzz.

"Impressive" she admits with a smile. "But that means little here."

Price

Price had gotten away from the loaders and any others who might make him do work or whatever so he started to get around the market with Sanctus close behind him trotting along happily. He noticed some other person about his age with his own pokemon, not really sure what type about three tents away and started to follow him. He lost him in the crowds attempt to keep distance, but quickly bumbed into him as he tried to head back the way he came. Apparently he had gone to far ahead after losing him as to get in front of this person. He and Sanctus look at the two before them and Price gives a questioning look to Terry. "Sorry about running into you... My name is Price, and this is Sanctus." He says putting his hand on his Houndour's head as it sits there looking at the Shinx.

((Let's try to get this thing moving again.))

Terry Oaklan

Terry had managed to stay out of the way as the trading parties set up a joint meeting camp. No one he knew noticed him wandering between the tents that were filled with people bartering over costs or discussing news of the wastelands. From the looks of it the two caravans were going to agree to a stint of neighborly interaction. From the sounds of it, both parties had heard of the roaming packs of predatory pokemon that had wiped out unwary groups and agreed that for now at least, numbers would increase everyone's safety.

Ducking around a cart when he saw the intimidating back of his father, Terry ran right into another boy. Nearly losing his balance, terry managed to keep his feet only because he bumped into Tut, who sneezed from the dust he'd kicked up. The result was that the feline pokemon let loose an involuntary spark, which shocked both boys and the houndour like touching a charged piece of metal. It didn't hurt them, only causing a light jolt. Terry was almost as quick as Price to apologize, which made him laugh.

"I'm Terry and this little tyrant is Tut," he counter introduced. His Shinx mewed in apology, reaching out with his nose to get a sniff of the new pokemon.

Price

Price and Sanctus were surprised by the jolt of lightning and shook it off only to laugh along with Terry. "It's our fault, we weren't really looking where we were going so it's ok." Price says happily putting his hand out to shake Terry's "My name is Price, and this is Sanctus." Sanctus put his head forward to sniff at Tut as he started to circle the slightly smaller pokemon.

Sanctus stopped after a pass or two and barked happily at the two and put his head on Price's shoulder only to breath a little bit of fire out of his nose onto Price's face. Being pushed away rather quickly Price rubbed his cheek with discontent. "Hey! That hurts you know."

This could fuel The Revolution

"I can't believe they payed us double for a rush job." Walking down a well memorized road a girl fed an Eevee that sat on her shoulder. "I hope they'll come to us with more work, watcha think?" The Eevee chirped happily allowing the girl to give a small smile. "Maybe we will find some more pieces on this trip. Maybe even some berries?" The sun shone down on the pair as they made their way. "It's been a while, do you think we should go see Mother and Father after the next job?" She looked straight onward thinking back to were she had buried her parents. The graves were peaceful, as no one went to that forest. Well if they did certainly they didn't make it out alive.

Off in the distance Silver heard a bell ringing. Quickly swinging around she saw a small pile of broken plastic laying before her. Her smile grew as she quickly collected her prize. "Thank you." People believed Mew to be a fairytale still told to small kids. Silver knew better, no...Ashley....that as her name right. She knew better than all of this. If it wasn't for that Pokemon, she would had died. Then who would take care of Eve for her. Such a small girl shouldn't have ended up alone, but she did.

"Come on lets get back to home, before someone finds us."

This could be my last solution,

Viridi Flame

"Match!" The referee called, his hand shooting in the air. "Winner, Viridi Flame!" Parts of the croud cheered while more many more cried out in dismay or cursed and threw their betting tickets on the ground.

Viridi made a motion with her hand, flipping her hair while striking a cute pose. Winking at the losers, she then motioned her pokemon to stand down. Both competitors had given it their all, but the miner had called it quites when his electebuzz had his neck between her Excadrill's claws. Some trainers were so sentimental, she thought.

"He must've seen you pop the top off that pichu last week," she giggled quietly as she walked out of the arena, her still scruffed up pokemon waddling happily behind her. It was a small matter to collect her winnings, a surprising sum compared to her recent takings, before she sat in a quiet preping room made for trainers readying for a match. Setting her Excadrill on one of the benches, she knelt before it and proceeded to examine it for wounds.

"You did good today," she said to it as she pulled out a med kit and started to clean a few of the scratches and electrical burns. "Here." Pulling out a poke treat from her pocket, she handed the candy over, which was excitedly taken and gobbled down with many chatterings of its name.

"Viridy Flame?" a high voice called from the doorway. The young woman looked over to see a dirty urchen of a boy, holding up a flyer. Kids like these, too young to work the mines, often found odd jobs as message relays.

"Yes?" she answered, her eyes narrowing on the paper he thrust out to her. Taking it, he then bowed his head in respect and ran back outside. The flyer was in fact an announcement.

"Hmmm, looks like we are heading to the northern town afterall," she muttered as she eyed the reward. Her Excadrill cheered excitedly beside her. Going north was usually a trip she reserved for the winter, when the temperatures were less harsh and the radiation hot spots were less erratic.
